Description

When everything else freezes, you ride on with the Stone Sentinel.

You climb on your horse-like convenience and drive it right into the blizzard. You don't worry about freezing because you're wearing The North Face Stone Sentinel Insulated Down Jacket. It's getting dark and the temperature is dropping like an anvil, but as long as you're surrounded with this parka's 550-fill goose down insulation you can stay warm and find your missing friend. Once you find him wandering in the whiteout, you use the tools and emergency supplies hidden in this coat to build a shelter and keep the yetis at bay.

  • HyVent 2L shell and fully taped seams repel falling snow and melted snow inside your makeshift igloo
  • Removable, adjustable, and insulated hood holds in your head's heat, while the removable faux fur trim blocks blowing snow from your face
  • Adjustable cuffs, tall collar, and thigh-length design keep out the weather through morning
  • Four front pockets and a waterproof chest pocket hold matches, emergency blankets, and hand warmers
  • An internal security pocket stores your radio or phone so it doesn't freeze

Good, but not for me.

  • Gender: Male

In the end, this jacket ended up being to long for me. The hyvent outer is pretty burly, which is good for durabilty and you don't have to worry about snags or scuffs. but it's not very flexible. With the thigh length cut and stiff fabric, when I sat down if the coat was zipped up it did not bend very well and the entire jacket rode up on my torso, looked like the collar was trying to eat my head. Unzipping up the two way zip didn't help much. I have a short torso so this may not be an issue for everybody. Very nice jacket otherwise with double storm flaps on front zip and a nicely adjustable hood. Ended up not keeping it and going with a TNF yellowband parka, which is pretty much the same with a slightly shorter cut.

This jacket looks great. I plan to buy it in size Small for my father. He likes light weighted cloth. I wondered how heavy it would be. Around 3 lb?

Responded on

Hey Shirley,

It is not very light at about 3lbs 6oz. However it is a very nice jacket that will keep your father warm in varying conditions.

great product

Backcountry has always been a great place for
buying and backing up their product.
This jacket is quality stuff all the way through.
It is warm and comfortable. It adjusts well to milder climate and looks great. The sleeves on the medium jacket were a bit long for me- 5' 08" 145 pounds.
It is longer in the back but loose enough so that
you can get things out of your pockets without pulling and stretching. The extra length allows for freer movement.
There is more room around the neck than the
triclimate jacket. The removable hood is a great feature. The fabric is sturdy yet not bulky.

Any thoughts about the functionality of this jacket vs. the McMurdo? I see that the McMurdo is two inches longer, and obviously the styling is different, but I am not seeing significant differences in likely performance to influence my decision. Thanks.

Responded on

they are both very functional with not a lot of real differences except for the length and the fact that the McMurdo functions up to about 20 degrees colder then this one

Warm =)

I live in Michigan today the temp was 5 and the wind chill -4 I was warm enough I could stand out in the cold and not feel the chill. THe only thing this coat needed is a draw string for the waist and to be about 6 inches longer but over all I give it a 5 star =)

The price in the cart is still the regular one. Where is the 30% off please? Thanks,

That sale price only applies to the Black 3 XL. I know, it sucks to think it is on sale and find it is just one size and color.

my son is 6'3" .. and skinny - worried this doesn't come in a tall option. Does anyone know of any parka like this that comes in tall options?

Responded on

This still might fit him, considering that it is a parka. Parkas are usually cut more generously than a typical jacket, so they end up being longer than normal coats.
