The North Face Steep Tech Agent Hooded Jacket is to the fleece jacket what a Sherman tank is to the automobile. This super-burly warmth-monger uses an adjustable hem system and hook-and-loop cuffs to block cold air from creeping in the cracks, and its thick material maintains warmth even when wet.
Read lots of reviews before deciding to buy, but am satisfied with the jacket. It's true to size and I like that it runs a little long, (M) is perfect for me at 6'1", though like others have said, there are a few small things that could be improved:-The hood is so-so, not sure how it's adjustable; the brim is kinda dorky but should be fine under a climbing/ski helmet, otherwise would probably tuck it under my pack-The fact it's advertised as a "fleece" is definitely misleading, if you're looking for a burly but not bulky fleece, stick with the Denali. This is a soft-shell made of slightly stretchy polyester & nylon alternating panels that makes me reminisce of my highschool track suits! Great feel though. It is warm of it's own regard and w/ a decent base layer, you'd be good in most conditions-The zipper feels good all the way up and the guard protects your throat (though others have said different), though wish it had a small Velcro flap to secure the zipper when fully up, like my trusty EMS fleece-The hand pockets are only snaps, NOT ZIPS, so won't secure much, definitely not a digital camera safely, there's a chest zip pocket that'll fit a power bar and not much else, so pretty disappointing thereOverall though, a great jacket but for the price it definitely lacks a few things though I can overlook them for functionality elsewhere. Think i'll wait however, for the TNF Aero jacket to become available (cheaper than the $249 starting price hopefully) and trade in for it.
fits a little wierd because when zipped up it goes all the way below your chin/neck area and the material isnt that soft so the zipper is pretty much jammed against your adams apple.

-I just returned from a 3 week ski trip, and this being my only Jacket, I was wearing it pretty much continuously for the period. Works great out in the snow, but doubles perfectly for general wear in cold weather.
For the weight, its warm and comfortable- Happily skiid with only a T-shirt underneath, but would add an extra layer if there is any cold/strong wind as the panelling does tend to let a small amount of air through. Only noticed this in sub zero temperatures though.
The Panelling on the arms, chest and lower back is really cool, and helps to contour the fit a little. Would have liked to see this continued onto the upper back also. The material is absolutely fine, though around the pockets area on the front is not water proof, but seemed pretty resistant to snow etc.
The pockets are only a single snap lock also, so that makes the Napolean pocket on the chest the only pocket you can put anything valuable in. It's only passport size, but to be fair if it was any larger it would probably reduce the functionality anyway. The jacket definitely needs an internal pocket or two I would say.
The contouring of the bottom of the jacket is slighty baggy also, only adjustable by a drawstring. Would like to see this improved, with a similar finish to the wrist holes, as to me this is the only thing letting down the look of the jacket. Functionality wise though, it's fine.
Overall, very happy with the purchase, and feel as if I have got value for money.
This jacket's material balls up and makes it look older than you've had it. It get that way real easily by rubbing against anything. I wish I returned it at the first sign of this fatal flaw. To top it off this hoodie isnt warm at all even with a sweater under. And i live in Wash, D.C. and it isnt even that cold here compared to anywhere else! Save yourself money, DO NOT BUY IT!
You'll be totally fine with this weight jacket in those temps. You could probably be fine even a bit colder. If you tend to run chilly just throw a layer underneath and you'll be set!Hope that helps.
This jacket arrived just in the knick of time for my boyfriend to receive it on Christmas. He absolutely loved it! It's not bulky but at the same time adds lots of comfort & warmth that he needs during this freezing winter. Overall it's one awsome jacket! Thanks!!!
Ok, I'll admit the jacket is pretty warm (only tested it in my house), but it's not like the previous two steep tech fleeces I have ordered. This jacket is just another wannabe denali with a "Steep Tech" tag on your chest. For one, it does not have the zippers going horizontally, which I am a fan of, and second, it does not come with two CRUCIAL pockets, the middle chest pocket, nor the left arm pocket. Lastly, the hood!!! Why did they have to add a little brim on the hood? It looks retarded when I put the hood up cause I have this mini brim covering my eyes. You can flip the brim up but it just looks dumb when you wear it like that. Big disappointment to me. I read Akademiks review before I purchased the item and thought he was just making stuff up when he was talking about the jackets material, it just doesn't feel as pleasant as the material they used in the past. Overall two stars because it has two northface logos on it, on on the chest as usual and one right underneath your back neck hairline. I bought the jacket yesterday, got it today in the mail (0.01 cent overnight shipping) and am going to return it tomorrow.. Definitely going to look for an old school Steep Tech on some other website.
The hood does not come apart and you can not adjust it, which i really hate. But it does keep you really warm. The Size/ length of this fleece jacket is way longer than the Steep Tech jacket, so it look weird when you wear both together.
In the future i hope they come out with a ST fleece that look almost the same as the ST jacket with the zipper the same.
Just received this jacket, it looks great and feels great. I wore it in 19 degree weather in Ohio and was just fine. I had a pretty thin sweatshirt on underneath also!!! Its more stylish than the Denali and warmer also, sorry to the Denali owners but the truth is the truth!!! Backcountry rocks!!!
