I commute to Manhattan several times a week.
I am wondering whether to get the Sport Hiker pack in basic black or chili red pepper.
I take public transportation and use this pack instead of a pocketbook.
    Any suggestions or advice?

My first advice would be to get the heck out of Manhattan. LOL. On the lumbar pack though, I'd go with something more subdued for your purpose like the basic black. You should look at Mountainsmiths lumbar packs, too, btw. I have a day and a tour from them that are both superbly made and cost me a lot less than $85.

Hi Nathan, Thank you for your feedback. Getting out of Manhattan is not a bad idea! I ended up buying the black one, but had to exchange it at the North Face store. It's been sitting on a shelf in my closet for a while now. The Mountainsmirhs you're recommending seem to cost about the same on this website. I will look at them the next time I need a pack.
