2015 Ski Guide2015 Ski Guide

Just when you expect to be sweat-soaked, you won't be.

Ski comfortably this winter with The North Face Men's Snorkle Fleece Hooded Jacket as a mid-layer. Its FlashDry fleece fabric doesn't just warm you up like a normal fleece. It wicks moisture faster than you can plummet down those powder-capped peaks, and it has an excellent dry time to keep you comfortable while you ski over snowy slopes all day long. An active fit pulls this jacket close to your body for easy layering.

The Snorkle features a scuba hood with a stretchy binding that holds your head heat in. Thumbholes at the cuffs keep the sleeves in place while you layer a ski shell overtop. Invisible zippers at the chest and hand pockets conceal your wallet and phone so sneaky people who pickpocket will have one hell of a difficult time trying to steal your stuff while you sip a beer at the end of the day.

Hey James,

This jacket is not zip in compatible but even without that feature it makes a great layering piece.

The North Face

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I've always liked my Apex jacket but wanted a lightweight jacket that I can wear on warmer days. This one does the job. It is comfortable and at a discounted price I am very pleased.

Looks good, questionable utility

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Got this jacket yesterday. First off, it's really nice looking. Fit is good; gray color with contrasting yellow is nice. The only issue I have with the appearance is that the TNF logo and Steep Series badging are ironed on vs. embroidered. Very cheap approach, IMO.

Wore it for the first time this morning walking the kids to the bus stop in about 35 degree weather with a thermal shirt underneath. I was still a little chilly and I generally run warm.

It's billed as a mid-layer, made to be worn under a technical shell but I think you'd be too cold using it as such for anything other than Spring skiing or the odd warmer than usual day, unless your baselayer is a three ply cashmere sweater.

In summary, the jacket looks good (with the exception of the iron-on badging) but it strikes me thus far as more "cool season running gear" than mid-layer for snow sports. It's miscast as a Steep Series piece; putting it in Flight Series would be much more appropriate.
