Sentinel Thermal Softshell Jacket - Women's

Going somewhere cold and windy? Bring along The North Face Women’s Sentinel Thermal Softshell Jacket. The North Face made this Summit Series cozy jacket with Gore Windstopper fabric and added a high-loft fleece backing for warmth when temps plummet. Even though Gore Windstopper is impermeable to a strong gale, it breathes, so you don’t overheat as you exert. Plus, the performance-fit Sentinal Thermal Jacket is water-resistant, so you can forgo another layer in all but the worst conditions.

Bottom Line: Your go-to jacket for high-output activities in windy and dry winter conditions.

Great Jacket!

By:
January 5, 2010

I have been really happy with this jacket - I did go up a size from small to medium (though I have a petite frame and wear small in all my other jackets & shirts)because the lining was making my shirts creep up, which drove me crazy! If you are looking for a jacket that is warm yet breathable without being too cumbersome, as well as having nice lines, this is a great one. It was pretty pricy when I got it ($230) and I still think that's a bit steep, even though I'm really happy with this jacket.

I love it so much that everyone else in my family got one. I feel they run small so order the next size up. They are warm and soft and do not collect dog hair like the Denali jacket does.

What is the main difference between this jacket and the apex bionic?

Hi Jacob - The Sentinel has a Gore Winstopper laminate, where the Bionic uses a proprietary laminate to block the wind. The Sentinel has a softer feel to both the exterior softshell fabric, and a higher loft/softer fleece interior. The Bionic fabric has slightly more stretch to it than the Sentinel.
Hope this helps-

Not super warm, but super cute

By:
February 23, 2010

When I first recieved this jacket, I was afraid it was going to be short, but on the contrary, it was the perfect length, a little longer in the back and it makes you look skinny! The inside is super soft which is great if you wear a short-sleeved shirt underneath. For the money I would like it to be warmer, however, it looks very sharp (I have the white) and it is good for temperatures around 40 degrees and warmer. Will be a great inner layer shell with my ski coat as well. Nice.

The one thing I would consider when choosing your size is if you have a long torso then size up. North Face tends to run short. If thats not an issue, decide whether you want a "athletic" fit or a comfy fit. Athletic will be tighter fitting. Good luck and happy shopping ;)

Awesome jacket!! Worth every penny!!

By:
January 23, 2010

I was hesitant towards this jacket at first. I mean, really, was this super thin fleece going to keep me warm during the arctic like winters of Buffalo?

However, searching amongst all other jackets, one of which I preferred but seems to be sold out nationally, I could not resist trying this jacket after reading some reviews.

Let me tell you, this jacket is awesome. Although pricey, I got mine at ~229, I feel like it's worth any penny. The fitting is very figure flattering as it accentuates the right curves in the right areas for ladies, even if you don't have the perfect figure to begin with! I am slightly chubbier and shorter and sometimes jackets make me look pregnant but that was not the case here! Instead, I got a much skinner waist line!

My only complaint is probably the fact that the sleeve is a tad long, but only by like an inch, which isn't that much of a problem.

The best thing about this jacket? The EASE of cleaning!!!! I got this in white, but EVERYONE knows how hard it is to maintain and clean white jackets. I got a little stain the first day on the sleeve but guess what??? Just spot cleaning with a little soap and it's gone!!! What more can we ask for??

I am 5'4" and 100 lbs. and I have a long torso. I got a small in the Windwall 1 Jacket, but it was way too short. Does this jacket run really short too? What size should I get?

Great jacket. I love the lining inside, very warm and it looks good on you. Very form fitting. Had to return the first one I got, because I'm normally a MD in North Face jackets and the MD was a little snug. LG fits perfect. Recommend going up a size.

I absolutely love this jacket and can't believe how versatile it is. I wear it alone or over a sweater. It is great for this crazy Seattle weather (snow, sleet, rain). I would highly recommend it. As far as backcountry.com, they are very reputable and have excellent service and prices. I ordered this for Christmas and it arrived within a few days and was the best price in town.

I just got my new jacket today and it is summer, so I am not able to test it yet. I can't wait for fall now to see just how warm it really is and I dislike the cold!

Cute Jacket.

By:
January 27, 2010

Love the fit, and can be worn under a winter coat for extra warmth! I normally wear XS, but S was perfect...not too tight, not too big. I also bought another one for my MOM, who normally wears M, but L was too big for her.

Review Title

I liked this jacket's fit, though a size up might have been better when layering, but did not like the lack of pockets (there are only 2 on the outside) or pocket placement. The pockets are a little high and for my long arms, it was uncomfortable going in and out of them, I was wearing it for leisure, not athletics. But the fit was good; probabaly great for working out.

This Jacket is very very warm and light! It fits like a glove because of the Plus performance fit. It won't bog you down. I run and walk at night and this jacket will not weight you down. Kingfisher Blue very nice vibrant color. I love this jacket! This jacket feels like a spring jacket but it is amazing how warm it is. I wore this jacket when it was 20 degrees and windy and was perfectly comfortable.
