Fleece shedding fleece shedding .......
After reading other reviews I expected the "shedding" to not be an issue. Boy was I wrong. I have blue fleece everywhere! On my car seat, my chair at work, in my hair, on my gloves, and the list goes on. I've worn this for almost a month now and also washed it once and it's still shedding. Wondering if I'll have a jacket left to wear ext winter?? Not happy. Positives? It's warm and super comfy!
bolt blue scythe
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I purchased the scythe last month and I'm super happy with it. It's lightweight, but very warm, and the fuzz doesn't come off easy like previous versions. I purchased the bolt blue, not because i like the color in the picture, but because, after doing some research, realized that the color is different. For an idea on the true color, look up the apex summit thermal jacket by tnf or go to altrec.com and search scythe and you'll see pictures of the true color. For sizing, I'm 5'11" 42 chest, 33 waist and 190lbs and purchased the Large which fits perfectly (not too baggy, not too snug). In contrast with the denali fleece, this is more snug and the denali Large is a bit puffy on me, for comparison. Plus, Backcountry is a great outdoor site and is very helpful when in doubt about any product. You can't go wrong with this!
No more shedding
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I had last years and it shed a ton of fur had to return it. NF made some changes NO shedding at all . Well made super for layering under a shell .

First thing, this is very light and not that thick feeling. It's very warm though! The fabric feels nice, it has a nice fit, and it looks really good. I'm 5'11" and 140lbs and the medium is just a tad big, but that's how I like it. A small would probably be a more athletic fit. I haven't had the problem of fleece falling off and i've tested wearing it for several hours over white shirts. Make sure you wash it and dry it correctly, that might be the problem. I look forward to the weather getting cooler again so I can wear this more!
I read the reviews before purchasing and thought the issue with the "fluff or fleece" falling off was an isolated incident. Unfortunately, I had the same issue. In my case, the fleece continued to fall off after multiple uses. This is unacceptable for a name brand product at this price range. I've owned other fleece jackets from other manufacturers and never had this problem with those brands. This was my first North Face jacket and was very disappointed. I ended up exchanging for a Denali and I am hoping that this will not have the same problem.
This is part of the summit series which is the top line of gear north face sells. Its VERY warm and VERY light. The sides are made of a mesh that vent out hot air.
I don't think there is a better made climbing fleece for layering . Only one small concern I did see some small pieces of the fluff or fleece on the back of my seat after the first time I had it on could be just shedding . I will keep an eye on it though . The fleece is very soft .
while i think some people will like it my feeling is it looks a lot better online - it feels really light and airy- really a cheesy feel - the blue color is very nice but it was returned the day I received it
This jacket helps keep me warm enough around 40-50 degrees weather. It is lighter than I expected, but still keeps me warmer than any heavier jackets out there. One thing that bugs me a little is that it sheds a bit initially, both on the outside and inside. If you are wearing a white shirt underneath the jacket, you will find many tiny fur balls stuck to the shirt. It's the same situation on the outside. If you were to rub against another person's clothing, you might get some fur on the other's clothing. However, this only lasts a little bit and it stops shedding after a few uses. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with this jacket and I would recommend this to others.
