The North Face Women’s Scarlet Swirl Ski Jacket boasts a smokin’ swirly graphic that fits right in at the park and top-grade performance features to sweeten your longest days on the mountain. Lightweight recycled insulation keeps you warm but won’t overheat you when you boot back up the hill to hit a kicker again. Easy-to-reach underarm vent zips add extra airflow on warm spring days, and a tough waterproof shell, powder skirt, and adjustable hood defend you when the storms blow in. Tons of pockets ensure you don’t have to leave anything important behind. Because seriously, who can ride without a peanut butter sandwich tucked into her goggle pocket? We wouldn’t even think of it.
I could not wait to get this jacket. It was a great price, great color scheme, and sup prized that it was so toasty warm with a thin layer under. I ordered the medusa jacket for a ski type , layer jacket to find it very thin. It is fully taped and waterproof but not the insulation that the scarlet swirl has.
I love this jacket but it definitely runs small. I ordered a medium and had to exchange for a large. If you want any room for layers underneath, I would order up a size. It is very comfortable, great in wet conditions, good pockets and amazingly warm for its weight. And it is a fun pattern too - interesting without being flashy.
Hi Noah - 60 grams is a pretty light insulation package for really cold weather. I would recommend looking at jackets that are either down insulated or have at least 100 grams of synthetic insulation. Here are a couple of suggestions: Down Insulated: The North Face Tempest Down or Helicity Jackets Synthetic Insulation: The North Face Boufet or Plasma Thermal Jackets
The down insulated jackets will be the way to go for super cold conditions. Hope this helps-

Good looking jacket. I have the swamp green. I've used it snowboarding in the East. It's pretty warm. The hood is pretty great: stays put and doesn't obstruct my peripheral vision. This hood wouldn't work with a helmet. In terms of size, the medium fits me: I'm pretty tall and thin. I like jackets that are a little shorter, but this is a tad short for me. Still, I like the fit. It's not too bulky.
I really like this jacket. Fit is big, but I like my jackets loose and comfy. If you're looking for a snug fit, don't order up. I have found it really warm, despite it's light weight and seemingly thin insulation. Skiing in the interior BC at -5C to -10C with just a base layer on I have been toasty warm. I can throw a fleece or thin down layer on and be totally prepared for the Alberta Rockies at -15C to -20C.
I wear it with the North Face Freedom Insulated Boot-Cut Pant - awesome combo.
I love the design of this jacket, but it is very thin. I guess I should have known this considering the weight is listed as 60g. I was planning to use it for the ski season, and its been freezing on the East coast, so I returned it and found something warmer, also from North Face. Backcountry return process is EASY, especially with the instant refund.
I typically get ski jackets a size larger to leave room but this jacket is sized just right. Don't over compensate for sweaters, I had to return a large and get a medium. It's insulated just right to dress light - you won't need sweatshirts or sweater with this jacket, you will get too warm. I have worn it both skiing and shoveling and it leaves the cold where it should be - away from me!I really like how many pockets for everything there seems to be, I found a place for everything from my iPod to goggles, and ski pass. Between the storage and adjustments to air flow I love this jacket! The only drawback is the hood, its permanent but more than once I have been grateful it's there - it's a nice wind break on the chair lift. Well worth the money and better than boring black, the swirls are cool.
