Here's what others have to say...

How waterproof is this backpack, and what are its dimensions?

Best Answer

The dimensions are 21” x 13.75 x 8”. The pack is going to be somewhat water resistant, but definitely not waterproof, so if you think you'll be catching heavy rain, look into waterproof compression sacks or a rain cover for the pack itself.

This pack is just ideal for commuters

This thing is the perfect size. Its big and has room for clothes, cameras, dog toys, and some climbing gear. What I liked most is that it doesnt stick out from your back like packs I have had in the past. Its more of a large rectangle so if I am on a bike or a motorcycle its a pretty easy pack to move with. Oh, and its really comfy.

Great backpack

Use: Transport a 15 laptop and carry case, iPad, textbooks, misc pencils, pens, calculator, chargers, etc.

Pros: Lots of zippered pockets for good storage and easy access. Like the separate zippered compartment for the laptop and iPad. Plenty of room for 15 in MacBook Pro in its individual carrying case. Very comfortable on the shoulders, and I like how the weight rests low on your back. The zippers and pulls feel nice.

Cons: Definitely wants to lay on its back or fall forward.

I've compensated for it not sitting upright by leaning it against my desk/table, and already have gotten use to it (it doesn't bother me and I thought that it might). It does have height, but I like that roominess and often place something light on top of textbooks.

I am replacing a Spire Zoom laptop backpack. I thought that I wanted a bag with a built-in sleeve like the Spire, but the separate zippered compartment is nicer, more roomy, and easier to get the laptop and bag out. I had thought about getting the NF Surge II, but I'm happy that I went this route as I think the extra space is better and I don't care for the loops on the outside of the Surge II (probably depends on your use).

Greak pack.

I am totally satisfied with everything about the North Face Backpack. It has plenty of pockets and space and the material fits my everyday outside use entirely. The workmanship of this product also appears to be remarkable.

Can this pack be used as a carry-on?

Can this pack be used as a carry-on?

Probably, I never traveled with the router per say, but I always have a huge book bag on my back, and they never say anything. I just tell the airport peeps that it is my laptop bag, and they always had no problem with it.

This backpack measures 22" X 14" X 8.5". So, I guess, it fits in most airlines recommended size. Just make sure you keep the weight within limits.
IATA has a recommendation of 22" X 18" X 10" so it fits in perfectly.

This backpack has been my everyday bag for the past 6 months. Zippers are built really well. As expected with The North Face quality never lets you down.

Straps are awesome. back support is great. Have had this thing hold more weight than it should have, holds up perfectly, still looks new.

Overall, an excellent bag for many uses.

Awesome Backpack for lots of things

Was a little skeptical when I first opened it as it did not look any bigger than my other The North Face backpacks. In compressed mode it is not. Lots of handy pockets and zippers are YKK and very heavy duty. Dell Inspiron 17" fits with lots of room, charger fits snugly in charger pocket, Rayban glasses case fits very secure and lets you get large frame Rayban Aviators in and out easily. Main storage is huge expanded. Room for most everything including full keyboard, surge protector outlet strip and much more. Organizer section has so many pockets I will have to decide what to do with them. Water bottle pocket doubles as not so compact umbrella compartment and front two compartments would each hold a rain proof top and bottom shell. A kid could attach all sorts of do dads to the front outside loops to make it cooler looking but it is a very nice looking backpack without. Backpack straps and torso strap seem comfortable but are not as heavy duty as old ones but may be fancy material and don't need to be. Backpack is comfortable very loaded up. Poor laptop is almost 7 lbs alone. Save your receipt and tags as this backpack has a lifetime guarantee. If this is like any other The North Face backpack I have owned it is very water resistant and most of the zippers are covered for weather resistance. Gets a big thumbs up from me.

Just noticed this has an emergency whistle on the mini strap joining the main straps which is easily accessed while skiing, hiking or bike riding. While not as loud as my avalanche whistle I wear skiing out west, it is great for about anything else to let people know you are there.
