Actually, don't do that, because that would make you a jerk. It's not jerkish, however, to feel confident knowing that your bag, made with bomber base camp material and added rugged nylon, will be adventuring long after those other bags have died and spilled their guts onto tarmacs worldwide. The Rolling Thunder complies with European standards for carry-on luggage while still holding all the gear you need. It's clear that the designers have been there and done that based on all the intelligent features they crammed into this bag: plastic bumpers on wear points, external zippered organizational pockets, daisy-chain lash points, and an internal mesh pocket.

    So close, telescoping handle issues

      Purchased for our son to use as carry on bag and it is awesome in every way except the telescoping handle at mid-height. When raise the telescoping handle to mid-height to accommodate his size (9 yrs old), it will not stay in place - constantly pops out and raises up. There's simply no configuration where the telescoping handle will lock at mid-height. Only locks and stays in place when handle is pulled all the way up.
      At the tallest point, it's just too long for him to maneuver through busy airports. We are all super bummed bc otherwise - beautiful bag.
      For adult use - may never be an issue as handle may not be used in mid-height often if at all.

      • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

      The materials of the bag are high-quality, and it is certified as a carry-on bag. The handle is long and sturdy (good for tall people) and the entire bag is exactly what you'd expect from north face. My only complaint is that the two metal supports inside the bag minimize the amount of space in the bottom of the bag, and it is therefore slightly smaller than what I imagined, but that being said it is still well worth the money to have a bag that will last forever.
