Bomb Proof!!!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This is a great tent! It is not the lightest tent around, but it will certainly keep you out of the elements when you need it to. This is a true two person tent and has a little more interior room than a 2 person backpacking tent. There is ample storage with two vestibules, the attic and four interior pockets. I have used this tent in all conditions from -7 degrees all the way up in to the 90's. It has withstood hail storms, rain storms, a 12inch snow dump at 11,000 feet and has kept me, the GF and all of our gear dry in the process. Condensation does form on the inside when using this tent at colder temps, but I have yet to use a tent where this is not the case. I would absolutely buy this tent again.

Oh yeah

This baby is durable, light, good looking, easy to put up, my go to tent. I love this little thing. It is a bit small for two people but worth it considering how light it is. Really happy with this one.

2P 3S Rock 22 Bx

A trip to Moab a few weeks ago reminded me that I was in dire need of a new tent. I hopped on BC and was psyched to find that the Rock 22 Bx perfectly fit my needs and was also on sale. It's easy to set up and fits two comfortably. The tent is well constructed and has some great features. It should be perfect for both car camping and some backpacking for years to come.

    An amazing Tent!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I Love this tent. I have taken this tent through many backpacking trips. It has held up great and I expect that to continue. The only thing that I don't like about this tent is that it does not fit 2 large Therm-a-rest Neo air sleeping pads. Both my friend and I have these pads and can't use this tent when we want to go backpacking unless we have a different pad.

    Great Tent!

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Spent three days in the Mt.Mitchell area, and this tent held up amazing. Just used a plastic sheeting as a footprint, but the tent held up to some tough rains on our last night, including most of the bottom getting pretty wet. We stayed bone dry on the inside. Plenty of room for two (albeit small: 5'5" and 5'2") people, plus the mess inside. For the price I got it (clearance sale), this was a great buy. I would recommend it to anyone.

    Great Tent!

    Rock 22

I set it up in my dining room but haven't taken it camping yet. It set up fast and no defects. Looks like it will be a great tent. Fly extends low but is able to open up nicely as a bug/sun shelter because it has 2 vestibules. I bought some lightweight stakes from walmart since I don't think the rod-like stakes that come with the tent will do well in sand where I intend to camp. Roomy inside - easy to stretch out (6' tall) or sit upright.

      Super Convienient

      • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I used the past season model of this tent, and I love it! Way easy to set up, tons of room for two people and our stuff, and it can cool down nicely with the venting.

PS - It does great in the desert!

      Solid

I have had this tent forever. I don't even remember exactly when I got it, but it was over 10 years ago. It's still in great shape. It's really more of a car camping tent--it's not ultralight or super-compressed in it's bag, but if it's spit up between backpacking partners it will do great for trips to the backcountry.

      Crow's Pass Trail

Early September overnight hike on the Crow's Pass trail in Anchorage, AK. This was at 8 in the morning after a windy wet night. The tent held both me and my buddy (both over 6ft tall) and all our gear inside, and withstood 40-50 mph winds that night. Love this tent!

      Crow's Pass Trail

      Loved it

I took the rock 22 on my trip out west to Yellowstone and I absolutely loved it. First off the tent takes about 5 mins to set up, maybe a little longer if its your first time attempting it. In Yellowstone my friend and i had a short hike and camped for the night and woke up to 7 inches of snow!! Yeah we were cold but the tent was bone dry. I definitely recommend this tent it held up to the elements for us.

        I'm returning the Rock 22.

I received the Rock 22 this week and finally got a chance to set it up today. I love the tent, the construction, and the features. It is a quality tent with a great price and terrific features.

If it's such a great tent, why am I returning it? Well, the dimensions listed for the tent are way off. The length is listed at 89". I'm 6'7" tall (79") and my head and feet pressed against the inner walls. I didn't break out the tape measure to measure it myself, but since I was touching both ends I believe the length is approximately 78" or so.

I'm still giving this tent a 4 star rating. It's a quality item and should work wonderfully for average sized persons. If you're very tall like I am, you'll want to look elsewhere.

Awesome all-around tent at a bargain price

I've had my Rock 22 for six years, and the thing is nukeproof. Mine has sheltered me from Tetons hail, Cascades rain and snow, Sierras wind, and everything in between. It's not the lightest tent, nor is it the most breathable. And while it isn't spectacular in any area, it's good in all of them. I'd highly recommend this tent to anyone looking for a great all-around tent at a great price.

            Versatile tent

I have used this tent on the AT (90-miles with a companion and carried one tent), paddling in Quetico Provincial Park, Canada (again two grown men), 17-day solo motorcycle trip across the west (Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons, Colorado) and a 9-day solo motorcycle trip to Grand Canyon. It held up to all weather, is easy to set up, spacious with two men--and a temple when alone. I don't carry it when I solo trek due to the weight, but in the above situations--It can not be beat.

              Versatile tent

What size would the footprint need to be if I just bought a generic one?

              Hey Andrew

It's always best to get the exact foot print for the tent as you will get the most functionality from it without any trouble, However, if you cannot find it then the foot print would need to be the size of the floor dimensions which are 89 x 54 in. I hope that this helps.

              Cheers!

this tent is smaller than the The North Face Quartz 22 Bx Tent yet it weighs more — why?

I noticed on the cover, in one picture it seems to cover the tent completely (all the way to the ground).. but in another picture it doesn't seem it completely cover the tent. My question is does it come ALL THE WAY DOWN? I have a tent that is VERY similar but doesnt come to the ground.. and Ive woken up in a puddle of water several times.

Hello - There are adjustable straps that connect the fly to the tent body (as fabric stretches over time and needs to be tensioned over time...) - and the picture looks like the straps are not pulled in as tight as I would set up the tent. So to answer your question, the tent fly can be pulled in more tightly to the bottom of the tent body. One last thing to point out, if you look at the waterproof floor on the tent, it comes up about 4 or 5 inches on the side of the tent, so this is ultimately how you stay dry and still allow ventilation into your tent.
              Hope this helps-

              Hey Barbara,
The cover doesn't go all the way to the ground. It does go past where the bath tub floor starts, and as Dave mentioned the bath tub extends about 5 inches up. You can tighten down the fly with the straps but if you tighten them too much you can cause the tent poles to flex. There is suppose to be a small gap between the fly and the ground for ventilation so that the tent doesn't hold condensation.
              hope this helps,

5lb. 4oz. is the weight for the complete tent?????

              Best Answer

              **Weight: 5 lbs 4 oz(trail); 6 lbs 11 oz (total)**
To get to the 5 lbs 4 oz you need to leave all the extras that the tent comes with at home...such as bags for the tent, poles, and stakes, etc. You can save a little more weight by purchasing lighter stakes (titanium), and custom made poles. It all depends how much effort and money you want to spend to save a few ounces...
