The North Face Resolve Jacket uses a lightweight mesh lining to keep it from feeling clammy, even in an absolute downpour. The waterproof breathable HyVent DT shell easily withstands the most horrendous rain you encounter on the trail, and it lets water vapor escape so you don't end up drowning in your own sweat. The North Face used a fully adjustable hood to round out the Resolve Rain Jacket's features and ensure you stay bone-dry even in nasty weather.
Bottom Line: Stop worrying about the rain. You have The North Face Resolve Jacket to keep you dry if the weather turns bad.
I have a number of North Face items ranging from backpacks and shoes to jackets. Since it started raining again this week in May, I decided I needed to ass a lightweight rain jacket to my North Face collection so I went on the hunt. $80 for a lightweight rain jacket is not too much to ask for but being financially strapped at the moment, I could not afford he new 2011 line of Resolve jackets. Luckily, I landed on this item from the 2010 line in the Bordeaux color. I read a LOT of reviews regarding the sizing of this jacket and with some hesitant, I ordered it in an XS (it was also the only size available). I received the jacket today and I'm so happy I took the leap! My other North Face jackets are a size Small but because the Resolve Jacket does not fit to feminine curves, an XS was perfect! I am about 5'1 - 5'2 and it hit my hips perfectly and no complaints with the length of the sleeves either! I'm so happy this worked out for me and I hope this helps out any consumers on the edge due to the negative reviews about the sizing :)
The rain just beads up and falls right off this jacket! I've been suffering the Pacific Northwest Downpours in a jacket that just soaked everything right in. I got a large and the sleeves were long enough and the Bordeaux red color is gorgeous. So far I've worn it running, rowing, and as a daily rain jacket, no complaints so far!

Why are there apparently 2 Resolve Jackets? One costs more a & looks like it has a waist gather. The other looks more like a regular shell jacket. Is it men's/womens?
Its cheaper because its last seasons colors and on sale. If im looking at what you are refering to as having a waist gater I think that picture just shows the ladies cut a bit more
Just went to Yosemite and wore this rain jacket during my hikes and was perfect for light rain! very light, folds pretty good and easy to carry it =) I would recommend this jacket!
This jacket is the best fall jacket you could ever own. It is a great piece for layering with a long sleeve T. Everybody should wear this jacket, it's as soft as a baby's butt and it's so cozy to wear.
I'm 5'10" and about 135lb (tall and skinny) I need an jacket with long sleeves. can somebody tell me sleeve length for sizes M and L? What size will you recommend in my case?
I'm 5'11 and 145lb so I have the same problem as you. I bought the jacket in a large and it fits well. I have extra room in the chest and waist area then I would prefer but it's not too bad, I also wanted to be able to wear the jacket when I was wearing a sweater.
The North Face Resolve jacket is the perfect rain jacket. I can't say enough nice things. It's lightweight and breathable as well as stylish! If you're wearing it in colder rainy weather you can easily layer a fleece underneath. A nice added touch is that the hood can be rolled up into a velcro collar.
Going on a Mediterranean cruise in May and needed something light so if it rains I won't melt while touring around. 5'9, 158lbs; the large fit perfect. Louie blue is a little loud but the family won't lose me in a crowd!
The jacket is quite comfortable and has a very good design so it looks good when you wear it. Make sure you measure yourself correctly before ordering because it tends to ride up. It keeps out water well, but the collar is really warm. I also like that it has tightners at the waist. I can't wait to use it again.
I'm moving to Denver CO., where the weather will be much colder than my Seattle weather I'm used to...is this a good choice for colder weather or should I look for something a little heavier? Thanks, Rachel
I bought the Resolve Jacket in Guava Green before heading off to college. I debated between the Venture Jacket (also by North Face) but, after reading reviews that suggested the two were virtually identical, settled on the slightly less expensive Resolve. I couldn't be happier. The color is more vibrant and even better than pictured, and the medium fits me perfectly (I'm 5'10.5" 175lbs). You know you have a great rain jacket when you hope for inclement weather just so you can wear it! Thanks Backcountry for the low price and quick shipping...this was my first Backcountry purchase and I will definitely shop here again.
My Kelpie Green jacket just arrived. I love the color. My only complaint with this jacket is that the wristbands are a little snug. I bought this jacket as a cheaper replacement to my North Face Venture jacket that I lost last summer. This jacket is nice, but I wish I spent the little bit extra and got the Venture which had adjustable wrists and was slightly longer.
I'd go with XS if I were you. I was about your size before I got pregnant. I have an XS Northface fleece and it still zips up and I am now 8 months pregnant. My XS Marmot Precip raincoat (similar to this jacket) and fleece also still fit so I would definitely go with XS unless you want to do a lot of layering.
So far I'm completely satisfied. I've worn it in a downpour, although not for long, and I've worn it for an extended period in lighter rain, and stayed totally dry. It does run a bit big, but that means I can layer underneath it, and if I don't need extra layers, I cinch it in at the bottom.
Being a North Face jacket that is a light blue color...If you want a dark Blue then some of the other North Face jacket have a deep blue or almost midnight blue...
First of all i look real good in my light blue weather resistant with a hood northface jacket, i can wear it in any condition mother nature has for that day.
I'm from Seattle and I am debating whether I should get the Resolve or the Venture jacket. I know that the Venture is a bit thicker, but has anybody had any problems with the Resolve getting soggy? It rains a ton here, so I don't want to worry about my jacket leaking onto my clothes underneath.
I bought this jacket for my 13 yr old daughter for Christmas. Apparently I did good!! She was very excited and her friends who have other North Face jackets were very impressed! Living in the Pacific Northwest entails the surprise of "many changes" in weather during the week! This Resolve Jacket has "resolved" that issue! According to the "Teen Queen", it's very comfortable and versatile for everything! She's 5'3" and is about 120ish pounds..got her a medium and it fits her so that she can wear a t-shirt and a not-too-thick sweatshirt hoodie under it. Length is just below her "bum" and she says she can do some kinda "scrunchie-thing" to it and "it makes it to her waist"!
Is this jacket zip in compatible with the Denali Fleece from North Face? I am looking for a shell to go with the Denali Fleece zip in system... got anything for that?
While you will have no problem wearing the resolve jacket over the denali, the resolve jacket is not zip in compatible. For Denali zip in compatible shells check out the Mountain Light Jacket, Varius Guide Jacket and Perilune Jacket. Hope that helps!
I love this jacket! So glad I caught it on sale. Its perfect for the spring and summer. And the rain of course! Its not too short like some can be. And I thought that the wrists would bother me since they have an elastic around them but they are not tight on the wrists at all. No complaints here. And the sizes on this jacket in particular seem very accurate unlike some others.
Unfortunately, no, the Resolve does not have any inner media pocket at all. It strictly has 2 side pockets. North Face jackets are very "minimal" when it comes to pocket provision and media pockets/Napolean pockets, bicep pockets, etc. mostly come at the higher range jackets where it is deemed to be "needed" by their design team.
I'm really happy that I chose TNF Resolve Jacket over the Venture. I love this jacket so much, I ordered another! It's more than a raincoat, it's also a great windbreaker or casual coat to wear on warmer days. It's very attractive and the bottom can be cinched up for a more tailored look. I spent a long time researching and trying on (at another store) the Venture versus the Resolve. Here are my thoughts... The Venture is stiffer and is not fully mesh lined. Plus, it is actually shorter than the Resolve (the Resolve is 27 inches in back and the Venture is 26 inches). The Venture has a one piece hood, and hood does not tuck into the jacket. This jacket also has arm pit zips and adjustable wrists. The Resolve is mesh lined (which keeps you cool and comfy), the hood can fold into the collar, and it's one inch longer. Both jackets are waterproof, but I find the Resolve to be a bit thinner and not as stiff. I'm not entirely sure where the $20 differential is justified, because in my opinion the Resolve is every bit the coat the Venture is. I hope this helps!
I finally returned this jacket, after feeling icky EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY TIME i wore it, high in the sierras or back at home. It wasn't comfortable even in cold weather, and a windstorm at 11,000 feet, because the liner AND the jacket stuck to me when I sweat, so I felt cold and sticky and sweaty at the same time! I found the elastic too tight, the neck too high, the hood a terrible shape so that I had to pull it extremely tight and virtually smash it against my face at to keep the rain off. Plus the velcro scratched like crazy and got caught on everything in my pack, tent and on my person. I prefer snap double closures like you find on Patagonia Rain Gear. Also, at 16 ounces, it was a real drag in the backcountry. It took up useful space and weight. To replace it, I'm getting something lighter, with pit vents and no liner (the liner only seems to increase weight and heat retention). Would not recommend this jacket for the backcountry. Kudos to Backcountry for their awesome return policy. I felt awful about it once I put it to use, and I'm so glad I can exchange it for something I really like!
Hey guys, I needed an opinion, i am 5'8 and i weigh about 172 lbs and i cannot decide if i should get a medium or a large? i dont want it to be too tight, i do want to wear something under it? i cant decide!!

Hey, everyone. I was wondering, I recently ordered a large Resolve jacket in Women's. I am 5'5 and weigh 130 pounds. I'm afraid this is too large. What do you think?
Yes, I think that is too large. I think you need a Medium if you want to layer a fleece underneath it and a small if you don't want to layer underneath it.
My girlfriend has the Venture and she loves it. She lives in Seattle and deals constant rain and misty conditions. Im sure you cant go wrong with either, but the Venture is a better all around jacket in my option. Hope that helps!
The biggest difference comes in the materials and there construction. The Resolve is a 2L construction and is meshed lined; were the Venture uses a 2.5L construction, which is lighter and requires no lining.
The Resolve is a little longer of a jacket (1" longer). Other than that, fit and features are comparable. Both are waterproof and make a good rain jacket.
A variety of shipping options are available- they are displayed once you add you items to the cart. Order do ship from Salt Lake City, so depending on were you live, even with standard shipping, most packages will be delivered within a few days.
This is a very functional jacket and works great for blocking wind and rain- two things I would look for if I were to get a more expensive jacket would be a snugger fit on the hood with a little more duck bill on it to block rain to the face and I would also rather have velcro fit sleeves vs the elastic sleeves that this jacket has. On the upside, I would not send this jacket back because it works great and it was a good price when I got it.
i'd like to determine whether a size S or M would work best for me in this north face resolve jacket. i don't want it to be baggy - i do like to be able to wear just 1-2 layers under this jacket. I am size 33-34 bust, 28-29 waist, 38 hips. any educated suggestions? thanks!
Great jacket. This is more a looser fit than a form fitting jacket which is great. I wanted to be able to wear a fleece underneath this (going to Alaska on a cruise). So this definitely fits the bill and is completely waterproof. I got the Pop Pink and its beautiful! As other reviewers have mentioned only difference b/w this one and the more expensive Venture jacket is the adjustable wrists and put zips.
How is the hood? Does it cover your entire head and more. I dislike when the hood barely stays on, especially when my hair is in a pony tail. Thank you.
I just got mine in the mail a few days ago and I am so excited to wear it and show it off! It is true to size and fits great and comfortable! My fleece jacket fits great underneath for extra warmth! Looked at other jackets and they can't compare plus you get a lifetime warrenty on the jackets! Can't go wrong! Love it!
Good job that u've checked the North Face website.
Blue Tide & Moonlight Ivory are past season colors (2009), hence the reduced prices. Pop Pink, Chinese Red, Black, Guava Green correspond to the North Face's current website colors, hence the full pricing at $79.95. Backcountry cuts 5-cents off the retail pricing.
For your information, Backcountry is the last place i'd find imitation products.
Bought both the XS and Small for size comparison... the XS is both shorter length-wise but also shorter in arm length. I am 5' 5", 120 lbs, and the XS was just too small. The small feels a tad big but gives room to wear a fleece underneath. This is a very light rain jacket perfect for stowing in a backpack or bag. I took it on a recent trip to Southern California where we were expecting rain. I packed it in my carryon, and it saved me when we arrived in a downpour. Great basic rainjacket made out of good materials.
Could anyone possibly compare the Resolve with Sierra Designs' Hurricane jacket and the Columbia Wildwood Wow? I'm going to college soon and will need a rain jacket. I picked out products in a comparable price range, which is a bout the most I want to pay, and if anyone could tell me which one is best that would be helpful.
i just got this jacket yesterday (friday) after ordering on tuesday because another website let me down, so great job for such quick service! i ordered the chinese red and the pop pink because i didn't know what color i would like best. well, i loved them both! they are very bright. i haven't worn it yet, so i will review on fit and looks. the jacket itself is cut well, with "cinchers" (for lack of a better word) at the waist and hood, and elastic at the sleeves. i ordered the xs (i usually wear medium in women's shirts), and it fit well, with a little room to wear over a t-shirt or thin top. the length is good, not too long, not too short. i like that the hood tucks into its own flap via velcro(hook and loop for you purists), but it does leave a kinda lumpy roll at your neck. it is kind of noisy when it moves, with lots of "crunching." i gave it four stars, because even though i know it's great quality and north face, it kind of hurts to pay so much for just a thin jacket. overall, i love this slicker/windbreaker!
the chinese red is very bright, like a cherry red, not like cranberry or orangy. the color is not muted at all to me. it is really nice. i ordered the pop pink and chinese red, and i loved both, but i loved the pink a little more.
The North Face Resolve Jacket has been a great purchase. It held up to torrential downpours while hiking in Hawaii while staying comfortable and cool. Fits well but can layer underneath it easily for extra warmth. I look forward to getting a lot of use out of this jacket.
I bought this for my 13-year-old for Christmas primarily as a rain jacket and to say she loves it would be an understatement. It has the "cool factor" having the North Face logo but it is also extremely functional. It doesn't have any insulation but with layers she can wear it out on a cold day and remain comfortable. Being waterproof, it is also perfect for rainy mornings at the bus stop. She really will be able to wear this all year round. She is only about 5'2" and the length is perfect ... not sure if she would consider it too short if she was significantly taller. She is string bean thin and an adult small is just right with plenty of room for layers. All in all, a great jacket ... I was very pleased with Backcountry.com's service and prompt delivery. I will definitely be shopping with them again!
Bought this jacket as a gift. Have been satisfied with any North Face jacket that I have ever purchased. This jacket is light weight, goes well over sweaters and vents so that it is not too hot. Great buy!
Im 5'8'' and about 135-140 lbs and I got an adult small and I like it alot. The bottomof it comes to my hips and I do not like my jackets saggy or long so I like the fit however if that does not suit you then it might be best to get the adut medium. The bottom has a cord to tighten or loosen it but does not have elastic all the way around. The only thing i do not like is the elastic sleeves I wish I had gotten the one with adjustable sleeves. But all in all i like this jacket.
I am moving to China and this jacket is going to be perfect for those rainy days. China has insane humidity and this jacket is the perfect weight for the weather. The jacket fits true to size and the hood is perfect for rain. You actually don't get your head wet and the hood won't blow off! Great customer service from Backcountry.com's support staff. They were the main reason I bought the jacket. North Face makes great products as well and I can't wait to get more use out of my jacket as I travel through Asia!
there isn't a ton of difference between the two jackets, but the venture is made from a slightly higher quality form of Hyvent (a proprietary material). Its also lighter by 4 oz. Not a ton of difference...
Hi - This jacket will only keep you warm in terms of protecting you from the wind and keeping you dry. Otherwise, this shell is uninsulated and you would need to layer underneath it to keep warm. Hope this helps
I have looked everywhere online and at Dick's Sporting Goods and I can not find a 1X rain jacket in any color. In men's sizes the only thing I can find is in black. Big girls like to wear pretty colors too.
I'm about 5'3" and 107 lbs. I think I should get an xs, but I don't want the sleeves to be too short. Any ideas? Also, is the fit slim? because baggier jackets end up drowning me.
The North Face is one of the few brands that makes extra small jackets that really are small and slim-fitting. I usually drown in other brands' "extra-small" sizes too. I'm 5'2", around 110 lbs (but extra slim on top). My arms are proportionate to my height--not freakishly short or long-- and my xs North Face jacket's sleeves end just shy of my fingertips when I hold my arms straight down, and at my wrist when I stretch my arms straight up.
I live in Vancouver BC and it rains a lot here. I got my jacket 1 month ago and it is wonderful, totally waterproof and lighweight - great for me and this climate. Would totally recommend this jacket, actually I did and my husband just got one for himself.
i prefer the venture for running because it is much more breathable and tehe armpit zips are great for getting just enough air to cool you down, but not soak you (i live in northwest WA)
This jacket really doesn't breathe enough to comfortably run in. There are other jackets out there that are more suited for fall running. I used mine once last year for running 5 miles in light rain and it was around 50 degrees. I sweat quite a bit and this jacket simply does not breathe enough.
I'd only wear the resolve if you are running in the rain. It does breath but it is so much more comfy and practical to use some like the The North Face Windstopper Active Jacket for crisp fall cardio missions!
I love this jacket! It's exactly what I was looking for and perfect for rainy days in NC. The fit is great and the price was within my range. Great jacket when compared to more expensive similar styles.
Well, it's better than a poncho and would usually keep the chill off of you, but it isn't really lined or insulated for warmth. It's essentially a plain shell with a lot of nice small features (nice if they are what you're looking for) but it's ultimately a shell. -also, they tend to run a big
Write your answer here... I am 5"7 and weigh around 170. I have broad shoulders too, so I got an XL. I really don't like for jackets to fit/fit. If I were buying your daughter a jacket, I would buy a large. Good luck!
I love this jacket. So much that I bought a second one after moving to a very rainy Germany. I now have the brown (two years) and red (five years). It has a great fit adjustments, and I never have problems with the hood. I've taken it spelunking, hiking, climbing, and camping and it's never caught or torn. You would never guess either of them aren't new. They wash well and dry fairly quickly.
Probably medium. I am 5'6" with really long arms and weigh 120 and I always go small in north face...and it's always really roomy. So I would guess you could go for the smaller size if you are in between.
I was unsure about getting the Resolve cause I own the Venture and loved it. There was a $20 price difference but it was for the arm vents (which I never use) and the adjustable wrists. I'm glad I got the Resolve. It fits a little baggier than the Venture. I'm 5'8.5" and I have the Venture in the medium and the Resolve in a small. Other than those differences, they perform the same. Not much difference for the price. And the Resolve jacket you can roll up the hood, an option which is not available for the Venture jacket. Overall pleased with the purchase and great to wear golfing when you get the unexpected shower.
I agree with the previous person who posted; it's really thin. It's also very light weight, feels like nothing. I was expecting something a little more insulated, but it gets the job done when it comes to campus life and the unpredictable rainy Oregon weather. I'm 5'5", approx 120 lbs, slightly longer torso and Asian/small build and ordered the XS. I wasn't able to try on a jacket prior to buying it, so I was surprised by how short the jacket is as it only comes down to the top of my hips. One problem I do have with the jacket is the length of the sleeves (I have this problem with most TNF items, so maybe it's just me and my arms); the XS fits fine in the torso but the sleeves are always short (comes down to the bony point of my wrist). The sleeves of S are longer but the rest of the jacket is huge. The jacket is also boxy looking until you cinch in the bottom. The XS was roomy enough for me to wear TNF Pumori fleece jacket underneath (but the Resolve is not a zip-incompatible item). In retrospect, the size S might have been a better choice, since no one likes wet, cold hands when it's raining.
This is a great product! I bought this item for my wife for one of her Christmas gifts and she loves it. She says it sheilds the wind and rain and yet it is warm enough to bare the cold. She has another winter northface jacket, but enjoys having both. Backcountry had great prices and I am now a lifelong backcountry customer!
Got this for my gf and she absolutely loves it. Great fit, great color. Small is a touch big on her(she's 5'2-'3 105lbs) but it still fits great because now she can wear stuff underneath. It's nice a light too...She's gotten numerous compliments on the jacket...The collar is a touch big but she likes it because there is a nice lining to protect your face from the zipper...
Black is last seasons black (which is why it is discounted), while black/black is this seasons black. Other than that no real difference. Hopefully that makes sense.
I live in Seattle so i was really concerned about this jackets durability and ability to repel the rain. Not only does it keep me toasty but dry as a bone! The color goes with alot of my boots and is very stylish! ~Great Buy~!
please help! i have such horrible luck with buying outdoor gear online. i am 5'6" about 112 lbs and have a very narrow build. if i get an xs will it be way short on the sleeves? then if i get a small will it just be too big in general? also is this jacket fitted at all? i bought a sierra designs kenosha jacket which had an 'athletic fit' and it was not flattering. i just want something to wear over sweatshirts when it gets rainy in missoula, montana.
I was so excited to get this jacket when I ordered it but it didn't look like the image when I tried on. I'm 5'2 and about 120lb and usually wear size 0-2. I got a size xs. The shoulder was bigger and the sleeves were longer too. But I think it's still great price and quality.
The shoulders are not reinforced, however the shell of the jacket is a ripstop nylon and mesh lined so it should have no problem holding up to hiking with a backpack.
I love this coat! I bought it to keep me warm and dry when I run in the rain. I have used it several times in the rain and it's awesome. I use it almost everyday and it's great for cool windy weather too, it's very versatile. I love how it looks. I bought guava which is a kelly green color and I get compliments all the time.
I thought when i purchased this online i was not gonna love it but i was wrong I LOVE IT! the hood is snug to cover your face from the wind, rain, snow or whatever it is pretty thin with the mesh underneath but with a cardigan underneath or a tee you'll feel warm in minutes!! I RECOMMEND TO OTHERS, GOOD PRICE AND A VALUE FROM NORTH FACE:D also fits true to size don't have to go up or down a size. it is also lighweight that when the bad weather is gone i just roll up the jacket and tuck it into my purse :D convinient for my states bi polor weather.
I looked at the venture, then at the resolve and im having toruble deciding between the two. Is the Resolve warm enough to go skiing in? and is the venture?
I purchased this jacket for hiking and walking my little doggies on misty rainy or just chilly weather and it's great! I highly recommend this jacket and the colors are great too!!
Write your question here...Am trying to decide between the Resolve and the Venture. I know both will keep me dry but which one would be cooler in tropical temperatures? It is hot and humid during the rainy season where I live.
I absolutley love my new resolve jacket! I was debating whether to buy the newer venture model or get the resolve but I am very happy with my choice of getting the resolve. It has a mesh lining in the body of the jacket and a microfleece lining around the neck that IS NOT found in the venture. On colder days I find the jacket isn't too warm but nothing an extra layer underneath can't fix. I got the guava green color which is actually more vibrant and prettier color than the picture online depicts. It is a shamrock green and I've received SO many compliments on it.
Will you be manufacturing more of this jacket (e.g., black or dark blue medium) when the last ones are bought? Or will another type of jacket take its place?
They are continuing to make this model. They will be re-stocking it for the upcoming fall/winter season. I would just check back often to see if it has been re-stocked in the color and size you are looking for.
I have a number of North Face items ranging from backpacks and shoes to jackets. Since it started raining again this week in May, I decided I needed to more...
The rain just beads up and falls right off this jacket! I've been suffering the Pacific Northwest Downpours in a jacket that just soaked everything more...
