Great jacket for the Gulf Coast climate

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 8"
    Weight: 225 lbs
    Size Purchased: xl

This jacket is a perfect addition to my wardrobe because it is both light enough for a rain jacket and heavy enough for a wind breaker. I was out in the rain for over thirty minutes the other day and under this jacket I was dry. I'm hoping that this jacket will last a long time.

Perfect Florida Rain Jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 6'
    Weight: 241 lbs
    Size Purchased: XXL

Not only is this a good looking jacket but it is perfect gear for here in Florida. It keeps me dry during the frequent rain we get here without the problem of getting wet and clammy inside the jacket as it breathes nicely! As well it is a great jacket as a cover up during those cool and windy days in which I stay very comfortable. But during the normal Florida hot days with rain the jacket performs to keep me dry without being too hot! What more can you ask for? Nice Looking, convenient to take along at any time, and does what it's designed to do, plus I got it a on sale, a winner in my book!!

First North Face Purchase

  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 11"
    Weight: 270 lbs
    Size Purchased: XXL

Sweet looking rain jacket - color is awesome and very stylish. Nice to see that a XXL jacket actually fits like a XXL jacket should and I could easily wear another layer under it if I wanted. This is my first North Face product and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Big around the waist

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Purchased: Large

I anticipated the waist of this jacket, it's a bit bigger than I thought. It's a great jacket, stylish and warm though it's a rain jacket. I like it but it's a little big on me, should have bought a medium instead. Will return, not that I'm dissatisfied by the product.

Responded on

What size waist do you have? I'm a 32-34in, should I get a L or a M?

Everything You'd Expect

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 6' 0"
    Weight: 185 lbs
    Size Purchased: Large

So bought one for myself and one for my wife, we both really like it. She's a paramedic and actually keeps her's in her locker or in her Jeep at all times. Mine doesn't get out of the house as much but has done everything I've asked of it. The hide away hood is fantastic, plus its light and breathable. Rolls up nice and tight so as to fit in an external backpack pocket. Also wears comfortably under a PFD. This doubles as our spray jacket when kayaking or canoeing. Wore it while white water rafting on the Nantahala River, it kept us so dry it all but took the fun out of it, and that's about the worst thing I can say about this jacket!

Perfect!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

The fit on this jacket is perfect for me, and vents surprisingly well. I've used it in many downpours while biking and have stayed dry every time. I've been using it as an outer shell layer for winter fat biking as well and it works great!

The bomb dot com

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This jacket is awesome. It is lightweight and rolls up easily for storage in a golf bag or pack, yet it does a great job at breaking the wind (ha!) and repelling rain. I live in Hawaii where our rain comes in all flavors, and this jacket keeps me dry no matter the situation. The hood rolls up into the collar but is easily freed with one hand while wearing the jacket so you are never in danger of getting douched with a quick downpour. So far mostly urban use for me, but I would have full confidence in this jacket on a dayhike or in backcountry. The zipper is fully protected by a velcro flap - which can catch sometimes when zipping/unzipping - so there is no exposed seams for water to leak through. The thing even cinches around your waist if you ever are hit by one of those Forrest Gump upward rains... Great jacket, great price, and great customer service!

North Face Resolve is dad's go-to jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

He's 5'12" heavy set, lives in UT (where the weather is totally unpredictable all year long) and installs network for a living (so the guy is outside and is constantly moving his arms and body). I got him the 3XL in solid black and it fit perfect in the arms and around his torso and beer belly :). The bottom of the sleeves rest just passed his wrists, the bottom of the coat rests a couple inches below his waste - he loves the length because it doesn't rise above his belt when sitting or bending down. The logo is small enough that it still met his employer's dress code so he was happy about that. He put it to the test at work the week after and said he had no issues whatsoever with moving his arms in any direction. It's keeps him dry for upwards of an hour in a steady (more than a light sprinkle for sure) rainfall but has to put a raincoat on for roof work in heavy rain or snow. He gets a little warm when he's zipped up for a while in the spring and fall but nothing out of the norm. He LOVES the tuck in hood too..."comes in handy and tucks away when I don't need it." All in all, the mens North Face Resolve Jacket is now my dad's go-to jacket!

Thank you for your thorough review, Angela. It was very helpful. Do you know your dad's approximate weight?

Responded on

Ooo good question...I'd say he's probably around 300 lbs. Glad I could help and happy holidays!

Light weight, very convenient for light sports and bike riding.

Nice coat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I bought a 3xl in this coat. It held up well to the monsoon on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.

Sleeves were a bit long and could use a Velcro strap to allow one to adjust the sleeve to your arm length. Other than that, it is a great rain coat for the $$$.

What's the difference between the Resolve,...

What's the difference between the Resolve, RDT Rain, and Venture? Which will perform better in heavy rain?

eh

Got this jacket on clearance (good part) - it wouldn't have been worth any more than the 30$ I got it for. Now-a-days you can get something much more breathable and waterproof for only a few bucks more than the list price (and often even less than the list price here). It's a little ridiculous that they say it is breathable fabric (600 g/m is about 2-3 times less breathable than most average jackets - for something in the price range you can have 3x the waterproof ability and 5x the breathability if you shop around) . You're mostly paying for The North Face name on this jacket.

If its cheap it's an OK jacket to have for doing normal errands or if you don't want a technical rain jacket. I have mine in orange as a throw-on jacket (used to be hard to get orange rain jackets) so I don't get shot in the woods during hunting season - the color might be my favorite part!

TNF is really behind the times when companies like MHW are pushing fast ahead with their waterproof fabrics. Even "generics" like stoic, ems, and rei have far and away better waterproof fabrics in my eyes.

For a jacket with modest level of breathability, it should have pit zips.

Good Rain Jacket

Gets the job done- does get a little warm if wearing for a while

Good Buy!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Very lightweight. Really for the guy who wants a little protection from the wind or cold, but doesn't chill easily. My husband doesn't care for bulky jackets, so this was perfect!

Not meeting the Expectation

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The jacket seems to be looking great in the website but actually it seems to be a wind cheater variety so have to return the same. That makes me feel Always by from stores by looking at it.

my shirt didnt get dirty. if i had a choice between the marmot membraine waterproof fabric and the north face hyvent fabric, ................. cant choose. was very impressed with previous waterproof jacket by marmot and now have this one which is about the same quality and just as breathable as marmot. just got this one because it was cheaper at the time. will withstand and big downpour. very durable fabric. no insulation whatsoever which is a good thing if your not a wimp. my only problem is that the hood is too big and droops down farther past my forehead and theres no stretchy cord adjustable thing in the back. it bugs me alot so i bought a marmot membraine brim hat and i am very content with both. well worth the price.

is this compatible with Nuptse 2 down...

is this compatible with Nuptse 2 down jacket? if it does, would a small fit for a Nuptse 2 down jacket small ?

Responded on

Unfortunately, it's not. I would look into the Mountain Light or the Varius Guide Jacket if you'd like something you can zip the Nuptse into. Check the Varius Guide out here:

and the Mountain Light:

The Definition of Value

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

When I first tried this on, I thought it was a much more expensive garment. The fit and the feel are pretty high end. It took several days of using it to realized it had elastic cuffs, the only feature that is low end. The jacket adequately repels water, fits great and looks much more expensive than it is. I'd say that's a win. For the price, it's hard to find a better value.

Great jacket, but could be better

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have worn this jacket through everything from a light rain to a complete downpour, and I have never had to worry about getting wet. With the North Face Thermoball as a warming layer, this has become my go to outer shell. The only down side is the hood. I wish it had a cinch to keep it from covering my eyes, but I can get over that.
