The North Face Boys' Resolve jacket is a tough rain shell for kids who trek through precipitating climates. Fully waterproof and seam sealed, the Resolve keeps junior dry whether he's waiting for the school bus or hiking to see the redwoods. The fully adjustable hood stores in the collar so it's out of the way when it's time to play.
Bottom Line: When your little one needs a serious rain jacket, get him The North Face Resolve.
Hi Lisa, the fabric on this jacket is a nylon ripstop, so the color is solid but you can see small subtle "boxes" that are created by the reinforced ripstop areas on the fabric. Hope that helps.
My mistake that I misread the description and thought it was a little heavier than it actually is. And, I agree with another reviewer, this jacket runs small, tho not as small as Columbia.
Hood rolls up nicely and easily fits in the collar. The hood is also large enough to go over a fleece hoodie's hood so on colder mornings, my son can wear both hoods.
My only complaint is the mesh lining gets "stuck" to the velcro tabs on the side of zipper very easily and if you don't carefully separate the two each time you wear the jacket, you can easily wear away or worse, tear the mesh lining. While adults may take the time to carefully separate the two, not so little boys, I'm afraid.
All in all, my son likes the jacket and it does keep him dry and warm when layered over a heavier sweater or fleece jacket.

I bought this jacket for myself a few years ago and I love it. The boys large fits me, a 5'2, 105 pound woman, and I wear it basically every where. It stays dry in a decent rain, but in a down pour, it will get soaked through, but it also works a a great wind shell or outer layer for when hiking plus it packs great when space is tight in a back pack.
I bought three of these for my sons (ages 9, 7 1/2, and 4). They run true to size (not small like Columbia) and are a great water-repellent jacket for 40-60 degree weather, depending on how much layering you do underneath. They breathe well and are very lightweight. I use them primarily as rain gear in moderate weather.
Got this jacket for my wife since she was traveling and needed a good rain jacket and one that she can wear sweaters underneath. Perfect jacket for her! She is 5'0 about 90lbs and the boy's "Large" fit really good. She never leaves home without it during the rainy season.
I bought this jacket for my son (7yrs.) as a rain jacket to wear during any season. On colder days he can layer it with a fleece vest underneath. I do, however, disagree with another reviewer. I felt the jacket runs somewhat small, especially if you wish to get more than one season wear. The fleece lining around the collar was a great touch. I'm very satisfied, as is my son.
Write your question here.. What is the difference between a girls resolve jacket and a boys resolve jacket, other than the colour? Can I pass on my daughter's jacket to her brother?
The boys jacket is cut slightly larger as there is no definition in the waist. I bought my son one and my daughter wore it two seasons later. She wanted a girls one but I just could't afford it when her brother's was in perfect shape! I have a girls one as the xl fits me like a womens medium and the girls waist is smaller than the boys.
This jacket was perfect for our hiking/traveling needs whilst in Banff/Jasper National Parks where the weather can turn very quickly. We encountered rain, hail, and high wind and the resolve jackets protected my boys perfectly. We couldn't have made the trip without these jackets. My boys generally avoid wearing raincoats but they wore these during our entire trip. They are as stylish as you can get for a raincoat, good colors and the fit is nice. The price point was an added bonus. I did size up based on previous reviews and that worked well as my boys will surely get more use out of them. The only thing I don't love are the velcro tabs that are on the outside of the jacket near the zipper as it catches on certain clothing and has permanently pilled some of my sportswear. Just be careful when carrying/washing it.
It would, but you probably would need it to be at least one size larger to accommodate something like a boys Aconcagua or Nuptse jacket. Hope this helps-
highly recommended for little ones. Dry, tough, and fits well. Soft material, not clingy and seems to breathe well just like adult jackets. Can't miss w/ this one and the price is at a good point. Definitely recommend this for kids.
I don't think so. My son has this jacket and my daughter has the same size Denali jacket for girls. The zipper on the Resolve Jacket has fine teeth and the Denali has course teeth on the zipper. They do not match so you cannot zip them together.
This fit my 13 year old perfectly. I was impressed that although it is a "boys" jacket, it has a lot of the features that are usually only on adult jackets (zippered pockets, brushed material around the collar for softness, etc.). Our friends also purchased one for our 7 yr. old from another vendor, and although it said it was the same jacket, the small one did not have zippered pockets, stowable hood, or brushed collar). Very happy with this purchase. Thanks!
The jacket is cool However, the jacket is thin is not made for the cold at all. It's more like a cool summer night. My grandson used it in the rain and that worked pretty well. So overall i am happy with the jacket.
Not in that kind of extreme cold but it would be excellent to layer over something. We get just barely below freezing here and this one is not quite warm enough by itself...but over a thermal top it does better. We also have the south forest insulated and it was good in just below freezing but it a girls jacket.
My 8- and 6-year old boys decided they're done with the cute cartoon-themed kids' raincoats. What to do to keep them dry and stylish in our 9 months of wet & damp? The answer: The North Face Resolve. Sealed seams and hoods keep them dry at recess and while waiting for the bus. Roomy enough to layer a hoodie underneath for colder days. Very light-weight and easy to put into a backpack. Great quality -- The North Face does it again.
This one is really waterproof my son loves to wear it. Works well as a spring jacket or windbreaker also. Only one thing, it does not attach to the northface fleece.
This jacket runs slightly small...not as bad as Columbia but a little...it does run much smaller than all of the fleece tnf we have owned so if you have any experience with fleece that should give you an indication. My advice is that if your son is right on the verge of one size, order even two sizes up so he will have two good seasons, so if he is a small but nearly in a medium, I'd get the large at the minimum and the xl if you want to make sure to get two years out of it...but if he is just now getting into a small, the medium should give a good two seasons. This is strictly my own experience of course but hope it helps.
One thing you need to make sure before ordering is that this is NOT a jacket i.e. it doesn't keep you warm on its own. It's meant as a rain blocker, and it does an amazing job at that. Put on warm clothes underneath and you're golden.
Depends on your 14 year old's size...my daughter is just 11 and will be 12 in November but she needs an xl. She is about 5'5" and exactly 120 pounds. Hope this helps.
I bought this coat for my daughter because the girl's version was sold out in black. It fits perfectly and will be an "easy sell" to pass down to her younger brother. It's a great rain jacket, but also good for blocking wind. WIth a fleece jacket, it's very warm.
I knew based up the raiy weather we have had here on teh east coast this year my son would need a good rain jack for the trips we had planned this summer. This jack was a great investment. Very durable and waterproof. It fitted well under his pack straps will climbing in the rain. While being caught in a thunderstorm at the top of a pass with ail raining down on our group we were dry and warm. It packs well and will be included on all of our upcomming outings.
Just got the jacket and pants Great jacket.all season Good for winter with a layer under. Keeps you atthe right temp.i was just Outside Its 21 degrees wind chill is 8 and its almost 10 inches of snow here in nyc Though i would freeze but Great wind stopping ability I'm impressed at how it keeps you cool enough not to sweat and warm enough Not to be cold.wow You'll see what i mean when if you get 1
I bought this jacket for my 9 year old son. It just arrived and seems like a really good quality rain jacket. It looks great on as well. I think this jacket runs small though. Based on the sizing chart my son fit into the medium category; we are returning for it a large. With a fleece underneath it just fits and leaves no room to grow.
Definitely warm enough for freezing. If he runs cold you might also consider a light layer underneath but this jacket would be just fine.Hope that helps.
I actually bought this jacket for myself, and I love it. I found the size of the jacket to be right on point. It's a pretty simple jacket, which is hard to find these days. I would recommend this definitely!
I bought this jacket for both of my sons (ages 5 and 7). It is difficult to find a raincoat for these ages because they are either too cutesy or too much coat. This coat was exactly what I was looking for - a rain coat that can breathe and easily stow in a backpack. I would also agree with the other reviewer - I did not find the jacket ran small. In fact, I'm not sure my oldest will get 2 seasons out of it. I would highly recommend it. And I have really been pleased with this company's customer service.
My mistake that I misread the description and thought it was a little heavier than it actually is. And, I agree with another reviewer, this jacket runs more...
