The North Face should rename the Men’s Resistance II Pant, because it doesn’t just resist harsh winter weather—its Gore-Tex Performance Shell fabric stops it dead. An integrated RECCO reflector aids rescue in case of an inbounds slide, and The North Face’s StretchVent gaiter and Chimney Venting system control your internal temperature. The Resistance II Pant also features reinforced scuff guards to deal with ski and board edges, and the zip integration lets you connect it to compatible The North Face jackets for a snowproof seal.

Bottom Line: Join the Resistance in the fight against wet days in the mountains.

More than just for boarding...fishing anyone?

I live up in the highlands of Virginia where my family maintains a fish hatchery bought from the state wildlife and game department (a trout's heaven). At an elevation over 3000' it is ALWAYS windy/cold/raining/snowing, and from October to March, you better have warm gear. The past couple of weeks the temperature has been steady at 10-15F with windchills well below zero (day or night).I was fed up with my coverall beings permeable to water and wind, and if youve ever tried to walk any appreciable distance in waders (or work in them all day as I do) you understand my frustration because they are designed for you to just stand in, not work in. So I took a big leap, $$, on the resistance pants (didn't want another pari of overalls), and glad I did. I wear a pair of athletic shorts underneath the resistance pants for another layer (my preference), however, you certainly wont need to. These pants are warmer than my Carhartt coveralls and practically just as waterproof as waders. Natural springs feed our ponds/holding tanks so the water is constantly 41-42F. I tuck the pant legs into my neoprene boots and walk the flats in the ponds to feed the fish, all with out ever getting my legs cold or wet. Even if i kneel down in the water to collect "floaters" or egg sacks, the pants remain perfectly dry. Bit of a ramble, but these pants were worth it. If they do this well on a "job" site, I imagine they are wonderful for recreation.

P.S. At 6"1, 215lbs., the large size is PERFECT

What is the fit of these pants? Are they loose enough for snowboarding?

I don't snowboard, but I would bet they are loose enough. I kicked football in college so I have large legs, and they fit perfectly over my legs and thighs without any binding. Hope it helps since you can't find these in stores to try on (not around here at least).

I'll Break the Ice

Okay, I bought these pants on a suspicion they SHOULD be good. I searched the internet for a review of these darn things and came up empty every time. Well, Summit Series strikes again. These pants are simply amazing. I originally bought Outdoor Research Furio Gore-tex pants and I was extremely disapointed with them. OR has a good track record and it's not that they were cheap quality, but they totally did not fit right and felt extremely bunchy in the legs. So, I checked TNF out and these pants were the only Summit Series Gore-tex shell they carried. I was shocked to not find one single review on these but I took the chance anyway. I swear I am so satisfied with these things I'd buy them in another color as well. They fit so nicely, not too big, not too small, and they fall right. The nice thing about them is they seem to be designed to compensate different body types. I can see the medium fitting a range of people in the medium sizing category, as a good pair of pants should (especially a shell). They arent too baggy where you feel like you should be walking down the street in the ghetto and not too tight where you feel they are almost spandex. These things are exactly what they should be. The venting under the thighs is a nice touch as well. I wore these on a 3 day winter camping/hiking trip and I didnt get one drop of moisture inside. They also are not hot and clammy like other shells. I hiked in with these on and I did not feel the least bit sweaty. I am 5'10", 175lbs. I bought the black pair. And at the end of the day, not only do they perform, but they look good doing it. I would definitely recommend these pants.
