Redpoint Insulated Vest - Women's

The North Face Women's Redpoint Vest provides core warmth and layering functionality while leaving your arms free to move. Wear this insulated vest at the belay station, and pull a shell over-top when the winter season's storms roll in. The Redpoint Vest's PrimaLoft insulation provides warmth even if it gets a little damp, and the flexible armhole cuffs keep wind out without inhibiting your range of motion. This vest stows in its hand pocket when you need to pack it away.

Bottom Line: Wear the Redpoint Vest under a shell or over a fleece on your alpine hikes, climbs, and camping trips.

Awesome, light weight good for fall

By:
October 18, 2009

Very comfortable. Not very bulky, good for fall weather. I like to wear it in temperatures ranging from 55 - 65F.

I've worn it almost every day since i bought it.
I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

It works for me

By:
December 21, 2009

Bought this vest in the fall of 2008 and have used it a lot since then. It works well in the spring, cool summer camping mornings and evenings, in the autumn, and even indoors in winter if you keep your house on the cool side (low 60's). I have worn it hiking in on-and-off rain for hours with just a light wool layer underneath and stayed comfortable. Sizing is also good for me (XS fits my petite, 5'2'' 100 lbs. frame very nicely). Not too bulky, but can still layer over fleece or wool tops. In short, the Redpoint vest is a very versatile piece, well-worth the investment.

Hi Helen - Moonlight is an off-white. The picture makes it look like a brighter white than it really is.
Hope this helps

very nice, breaths well

This is a very nice garment to have in your closet.
I purchased this for my wife and she loves it for a lot of reasons:
it breaths well-she goes for walks and morning runs and it works awesome
you can use it for your camping trips and is very easy to pack into its own little pack out of the pocket.
I recommend this if you need a very good quality vest.

i am slightly allergic to down, would you recommend a synthetic vest such as this one over a down? will is still be as warm?

Just like sleeping bags synthetic can be just as warm as down, just not as light for that warmth. Also the companies seem to normally design their synthetic pieces to be more layer friendly (under or over) and as a result they have a bit less loft/warmth to them. But the trade off is that these slightly less warm but slimmer synthetics will more easily fit under a shell jacket making a very warm system. I don't think down is going to be so much warmer that you should should think about enduring an allergy to use it. Just know you might need another layer under the synthetic insulation coat just in case, or a shell to go over it to seal in the heat even more so. Backcountry.com just put a little info out on this as well: http://www.backcountry.com/store/dc/801/Backcountry-Down-vs-Synthetic.html?sssdmh=dm10.110867&cmp_id=EM_SAL1157a7&mv_pc=r105&ep_rid=1252287

True North Face

By:
January 2, 2010

Like all North Face stuff, it's great. The fit is just snug enough to keep you warm without being binding. Stylish and warm. Always a good choice. I don't always like wearing a long sleeved jacket so this is a perfect option. Great over my just my base layer or lightweight shirt. I have several and love them all.

Great vest!!

By:
March 19, 2010

I love this vest! The color is great and goes with everything. It is warm (but not too warm; just right for cool days and you can layer warmer fleece underneath) and not bulky at all. Since I received it from Backcountry, I wear it all the time and have received many compliments. I would definitely recommend it.

warm vest

By:
March 3, 2010

I recieved this a few days ago, and it's just what I was looking for - a warm, non-bulky vest. I struggle with the TNF sizing, sometimes, and this is no exception. I'm 5'9, 155 (size 8/10) and TNF larges tend to be too big on me. So, I ordered a medium in this, because I knew I'd want it to fit pretty closely. And it does fit well, except that the length is a bit short on me. It hits just at the waist, so that's my one complaint - I'd love it if it was a few inches longer.

Great buy

By:
January 8, 2010

Got this for the gf since it's a lightweight vest. It's not puffy, but it's still pretty warm while layering. The black is not a solid black...there's a faint grid pattern if you look at it up close.

when buying a vest always buy it the next size up .. because most people wear sweaters under their vest

That might not necessarily be true. If you size up and find out that it allows gaps to form in the torso or makes the arm holes too big then all of your thermal efficiency is left to the wind--literally. North Face isn't as athletically cut as some of the companies out there, so I don't know that I'd automatically jump a size. I think sticking to the sizing chart is best.

NorthFace Insulated vest

By:
December 7, 2009

I love the vest. It was worth it with the free shipping. I don't know if I would wear it for below 30 degree weather. But definitely nice with a fleece liner when it gets below 60.

Light Weight Vest ~ Great for layering

By:
December 7, 2009

Nice light weight vest ~ Great for layering. Not for super cold days but great with sweater or hoodie underneath. I had to get the redpoint due to allergies to down. This vest has no down in it.
I feel this fits true to size for me. I ordered the large and fits great.
The nylon material makes it great to clean also.
Highly recommend

Lightweight, Cute and Warm!

By:
November 17, 2008

I got the moonlight ivory and the color's perfect because it's neutral and can go with a lot of different colors. This is my first North Face item and first order with backcountry but certainly won't be the last.
