Can anybody that has this jacket in the TNF White color tell me how stain resistant it is? I love the look of the white but I'm afraid it will get too dirty! Is it easy to clean?

My wife doesn't have this exact jacket but a similar TNF in white and is very difficult to keep clean. It works ok for urban settings if you are careful but there is no way you can take it in the woods.

Great bc jacket

By:
August 30, 2011

I prefer synthetic to down in the back country - better for hiking and for rain - so I was very happy to acquire this excellent jacket, which is a bit lighter than my down sweater and nearly as compressible. I chose the North Face Redpoint over the Patagonia Nanopuff as I prefer a more durable shell material. I am 5'2" 120 lbs and normally wear a medium in jackets/shirts cause I have broad shoulders, but I went for the small (4-6) in this jacket since I needed a small in my last North Face jacket purchase: the Denali fleece. The Redpoint fits a bit tight in the shoulders, but this is fine, as I intend to wear it as a mountaineering jacket over long underwear tops with a gortex shell over it, when needed. If I were to wear it as an around town jacket, I would have bought the medium so I could wear a range of tops underneath.

If you are looking for additional warmth or functionality OVER the Nano Puff, then you probably won't find it with the TNF Redpoint. There are differences between the two: The Redpoint uses a bit more insulation inside their jacket (it's Primaloft Eco, partly recycled). The Nano uses less insulation, but a higher 'quality' insulation (Primaloft One). So, with warmth in mind, the Redpoint may only be slightly warmer. The face fabric on the Redpoint is burlier, so it will be a bit tougher. The Nano will be quite a bit lighter (4-5 oz) and more packable. Hope that helps you.

Can anyone compare this with the Thunder Down Jacket? I actually bought both, but can't decide which one to keep. Which one would be warmer, down or synthetic insulation?

A spot on compromise between technical and casual. Good jacket for a variety of temps and activities. Looks great and the orange color gets a lot of compliments.

It zips in perfectly with my North Face Boundary Jacket. I actually like this better than the fleece that came with my Boundary jacket. :)

It does zip into my TNF shell that I got back in 2005. Works very nicely.

Per the description, it will zip into TNF shells. This jacket also has the little snaps on the sleeve cuffs that you attach to the shell to keep the sleeves from scrunching up.

Affordable and effective

This coat has been everything I needed on both cold and warm days. I generally wear it under a Marmot shell skiing and ice climbing. The material on the outside seems like it will hold up to some rock climbing trips too. I gave the coat 4 stars because despite being described as not riding up, or angel arms, I do get some riding. Though, I am 5'8 so it may just be me. Like the color (dark pink) and the fit is ok. Bigger around the middle than I expected. Handy to have the pocket that turns to the back - my headlamp doesn't bounce around on those cold evening runs.

Hi - this jacket would keep you very warm but it was not specifically made to be wind or water resistant. If you want all three features I would highly suggest looking into another jacket or a shell combo. :)

In love with this jacket!

By:
April 27, 2011

This jacket is lightweight, but warm enough to ski on an average day. I love it because it's not too puffy and is extremely soft. This has become my absolute favorite jacket! I live in Oklahoma and the weather changes constantly and this jacket is perfect for the crazy conditions here. It is completely at home in high winds, rain, or snow. Highly recommend this jacket!

I purchased this jacket in an XS and returned it for a S. Needed to be able to fit a sweater at least under it and XS was too small to do that. But have just returned from a 3 week camping trip where it got a little cool and it was perfect. Kept me warm and was easy to pack down small. Highly recommend.

I bought this jacket a year ago and I absolutely love it. Super cozy, and keeps you warm! I also got a lot of compliments on it. It's not the usual North Face jacket, but it's simple and perfect for bitter mornings and evenings.

Love It!

By:
December 25, 2010

I would say this jacket is true to size, I am 5'6" and about 135-140lbs and ordered the small. I can fit a hoodie under it and it is still flattering even though the description says it's a standard fit (it's a tad more fitted than Northface's other jackets categorized as standard). It's warmer than I expected. There's a left hand stow pocket the jacket can fold into with some work. It's zip in compatible, don't think that's in the description. Overall, I love the look of it!
