The denim option of The North Face Recon Se Backpack would be OK for your undercover missions, but we suggest saving the plaids or rage blue and pop pink color options for times when you don't mind people coming up and admiring your back gear-holder. The Special Edition Recon Backpack's padded laptop sleeve cradles your 15-inch ‘puter and doubles as a hydration sleeve when you're in the backcountry. A slanted bottom design lets the pack weight your contents so your shoulders won't feel stiff at the end of the day, and a pocket on the shoulder strap keeps your small spy gadgets close at hand.

This is the perfect day pack whether you're strolling around campus or hiking through the woods! The laptop sleeve and back panel construction protect a notebook better than most backpacks and the main interior is large enough to stash all your books or plenty of gear and food. Best of all, i've been using this backpack for more than 3 years and it's still going strong!

A great day pack. Just the right amount of cargo room to carry your needs around with you. Be that running for the train with your mac book tucked safely away, or hiking over ridge lines with tripod and lenses securely riding along. Well thought out pocket and compartment design, expands and collapses as needed, with well placed cinch and accessories straps. The two bottom straps are especially handy for holding rain gear or the small stuff sack. And it looks good to boot.
Would you say this is about as water-resistant as a pair of jeans?

it will be more waterproof than that. It is made of mostly polyester so it will stay drier.

I use this pack for everything. School, overnight bag, camping, or just going out. It has all the little pen holders and an area for school stuff. It has a pocket that you could put a laptop or even a camel back into, depending on what you are using that bag for. There are plenty of little pockets all over the bag. The hip belt is nice if you are going to take it on a day hike or something of that nature. The highly recommend this pack for anyone to use for almost anything.
Actually the measurements are 18&1/2in. length x 10in. at top filling out at 13&1/2in. at the bottom, Width, and 5&1/2in. Depth -to 8in. w/the cargo net extended.

Great backpack. I use it everyday for work. I am a web developer so it fits my Lenovo 14.4 inch laptop really well. I have gotten numerous complements. It is more robust and easier on the back.
Actually the measurements are 18&1/2in. length x 10in. at top filling out at 13&1/2in. at the bottom, Width, and 5&1/2in. Depth -to 8in. w/the cargo net extended. I placed a 17in. laptop into it easily.
