The North Face Recon Backpack ups the ante for comfort and durability in general use packs. What's the best thing to do with your most popular backpack? Make it better, of course. A padded laptop sleeve protects the brains of the operation. Bomber nylon and nigh-indestructible Hypalon fabric combine with a breathable, air channeled back panel and signature mammoth mesh pocket to make a comfortable backpack that's well organized and clean enough for school usage, but tough and techy enough for day hikes. Find out for yourself what makes the Recon one of The North Face's most popular pack. *WATER BOTTLES NOT INCLUDED
Bottom Line: Command, we have visual on a technical pack.
This bag is perfect for commuting to school and work. It has a place for your laptop and mine fits perfectly (14.1"). It has tons of pockets, so you can organize everything nicely. The mesh pocket in the front is bigger than it seems and can hold a lot. The only minor complaint is that it's not quite deep enough (plenty tall and lots of room, but wish it was a little wider at the bottom).
I bought this backpack for my laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) but it will not fit in the padded compartment. So I bought a sleeve for padding and it fits perfectly in the main compartment. There won't be too much room left for thick books but I'm not using it for school. In any case, this is a great backpack. The shoulder straps are thick and padded nicely. This also goes for the padding on the back. It has just enough compartments so that you don't lose your stuff. The water bottle holders are also a nice touch. I love this backpack!
Great backpack -- for work! Nobody carries briefcases anymore... this really fits the bill. Can use it to haul books as well as books to/from the office.

I will never use anything besides a North Face backpack from now on. The Recon backpack is great in every aspect. The support it provides for your back allows you to stuff it full without any strain. There are nice pockets to store all of your materials. Additionally, the outside mesh pockets allow for much extra storage--anything from a helmet to a sweater. It's a must buy--worth the money.
This is the best backpack I have ever owned. I have had this pack for 1 to 1 and 1/2 years and it is still like new. Its waterproof, durable, has many compartments and zippers. Even one for your cell phone! I use it every day!
....if you can believe it. Even my fiance, who doesn't get worked up about "stuff" said, "Wow, what a cool-looking backpack," when I got it. The Recon has all the bells and whistles, without being too "fancy" - I am sooooo happy with it, its perfect!
I recently bought the North Face Recon daypack. One word: AWESOME!!! It is large enough to store everything you need to carry. (In my case, 50lbs of books carried everywhere everyday in preparation for the NY Bar exam). The suspension system is great because even when it is fully loaded, it doesn't feel that heavy. After the bar, I plan to use it while my wife and I backpack through Italy. Look for us, we will be the two New Yorkers with the Black and Blue North Face Recon Backpacks!!!
This is the puniest backpack I've ever seen, granted it's well made and sturdy, but it's so tiny! I don't know I could fit anything in it, it seems as if it were made for an 8 year old child. However, talking quality, I think it could take whatever you squeezed into it. It is a well made back pack, but little.
I am really happy with this backpack. The only thing is, it is a little tall for me (I'm 5'5"). I like the mesh pocket, it's great for stuffing things that I need to reach easily. I used this bag when traveling, and it fit perfectly under the airplane seat.
Thank you so much for the great service. My backpack is awesome and will be great for traveling all over Europe. And the shipping was so fast! Thank you again!!
I ordered the Recon to carry all my college gear, and it does that job very well. I have more than enough room for everything I need. Plus, it is super stylish. It even has pockets for my cell phone and laptop! In short, this s the best pack for the serious or not so serious college kid.
Excellent backpack. Perfect to be used to go to and from class. Laptop fits perfeclty. Also, a great thing to use as an overnight bag. Perfect size and weight!
I love this backpack. I was going to purchase the Firewall but it wasn't available anywhere. I needed a backpack that I could put my laptop in and my books- this does it all. All the pockets are utilized and very conveniently located. I bought a laptop padded case that fits perfectly into the slot in the very back of the main compartment. And I absolutely love the cell phone pocket. I think I love this backpack more than I would have liked the firewall. The firewall didnt have a pocket that fits my bike helmet!
I love this backpack so much that I've purchased it three times (for myself, a friend and a cousin). My Inspiron 710m fits in the computer pocket with room to spare even in its gym pac cover. A friend's IBM x41 fits perfectly under the same conditions. Love the water holders (once you have them you can't go back). Love the design. However, I don't think it's a big guy's backpack. It appears small and petite on my brother's back. He's is 5'11'' and 220 lbs. The North Face Firewall meets his needs and size better.
This is an excellent backpack...I purchased it for college use and it has been great for me. It has its own pocket just for my laptop, and you can feel the difference of it when carrying a laptop around, it really helps!! I would recommend this or any other The North Face product to anyone!!
I bought the Recon model of The North Face backpacks a few months ago. I strongly recommend it to anybody looking at backpacks. It has many pockets to hold keys, cell phones, water bottles, etc. The main compartment holds all my books with room to spare. My favorite parts are the padded shoulder straps. The straps make it comfortable to carry a heavy load for long walks. The Recon is well worth the price.
Great all around backpack...awesome durability and enough pockets to satisfy even the craziest of packrats...laptop sleeve is the main feature and is very well padded, ensuring absolute protection for all laptops.
The North Face Recon II is a great backpack for school use with a laptop. The sleeve isn't really well padded and the Jansport laptop sleeve fits perfectly in it to add more protection.
However, the bag is just gorgeous and finely crafted. The straps are comfortable and all the hoopla going on in the pockets are great for storing little items such as USB memory keys and such.
One gripe is that when I have my laptop in the Jansport laptop sleeve inside my Recon II, I don't seem to have much space to put a lot of books. I can put about 2 textbooks max in there. That's because I have a lot of stuff in the pockets too, such as a mouse and power adapter.
Overall the North Face Recon II is a great buy, I would recommend it to anyone.
I'm using this backpack primarily for college classes for which I have to carry around my laptop. The bookbag is great and it has a place for just about everything I have!! I only wish the laptop sleeve was a little bigger though. It's just a bit too small to fit mine comfortably and I've had to put other things in the "laptop sleeve" and put my laptop in larger area of the bag. Overall a great buy!
This is a fantastic pack for student use. It has numerous and varied pockets of all sizes for stashing everything. It has adjustable side straps, sturdy shoulder straps, and heavy duty construction for brutal usage. I highly recommend this pack.
It the best backpack ever. I can use it for anything. It looks great, and it's so great for my back. I can barely feel it. The reacon is like a cloud resting on my shoulder. It fits everything and has great compartments. I have gotten great comments by wearing this backpack, and I'm sure you will to. I so recommend this backpack. You'll totally love it.
The Recon II Backpack is a really good investment. It has a great laptop pocket and its really versatile for everything and any occasion. Especially if you are a student, its one of the best buys!!!!!
The Recon II looks great and is very comfortable on my shoulders - even for a fairly slim person like me. The many pockets make organizing easy. However, I am a bit sad that my 15" Toshiba Satellite does not nicely fit into the padded computer sleeve. Regardless, I am very happy with the Recon II backpack.
This bag is just the right size for me. I use it for going to class and short hikes. The laptop sleeve is great for my D3LL M70. Great bag, I'd suggest it to anyone!
I ordered the Recon backpack because I needed something to keep my laptop safe, while still having room for my books. After the first few days of college, I have already discovered that this bag is perfect for that. I have a fairly large laptop (Compaq's R4000 with a 15.4 inch widescreen) so I was nervous about whether or not it would fit. However, it fits perfectly. The padding protects my laptop and the well padded shoulder straps and back makes a heavy load more manageable. The backpack is perfect for the campus setting because it has many compartments that allow you to keep organized. This backpack is among The North Face's many amazing products. You will be very satisfied with your purchase. Happy shopping!
The Recon pack is just at home carrying a laptop as it is carrying around two 100oz water bladders. I purchased this pack because I travel with a laptop through airports and I hike. The laptop sleeve holds my wide-screen laptop without any problem. I also like how the Recon has a port for my water bladder tube and the sleeve is big enough to hold two 100 oz (3L) bladders side-by-side. Also, the arm straps are well padded and the sternum strap is helpful to prevent the arm straps from drifting to the edges of your shoulders. Overall, its a great pack and a good size to be functional.
This backpack has been really great. I'm so happy that I bought it. The laptop sleeve is large enough to accommodate my computer and it fits snuggly. Overall its just a really good-looking backpack, versatile, and is definitely a multi-use type of bag. I use it for school but also throw my stuff in there for the gym and it holds everything well. A great feature is that it also doesn't bulk up when its full. It still looks relatively empty which I really like. The only thing is that I wish there was one more large pocket there's only one big one and the rest are small pockets. Other than that its a great backpack and its definitely worth the price.
I think this is a very capable daypack. For those of us who like to use it as a schoolbag, it doesn't have much room in it to stack more than two textbooks and all your notebooks. Other than that, seriously comfortable. I really like the feature where you can tuck the waist-strap into the backpack when you're not using it. Other bags I've had did not have that feature and when you don't use the waist-strap it really gets in the way. I like that the pouch inside can be used for a laptop, but that there is also a slit for a hydration unit in the top, which means you may also use the laptop sleeve to hold your reservoir. A very good crossover bag, just not a lot of room for ALL your books at one time, if that's what you want to use it for.
I bought the Recon to start grad school this fall and it's great! It's got lots of pockets for holding random stuff, and lots of room. I have an enormous laptop so it's a little hard to get into the laptop pocket, but once it's there, it keeps it save and comfortable for carting around.
Well I use it for school, so for that reason I should HATE my backpack, but I don't. It's too cool to be hated. Nalgene pockets are handy and there is definitely enough room for books. Wish there was like waterproof material on inside of bag near the Nalgene pockets to prevent bottle sweat from getting books wet, but even when that happens it's just a little dampness in there. Anyways, backpack is pimpin'. Looks good on me too. Peace.
This is the best backpack I have ever owned. It holds my computer (in its sleeve), 2-3 college science books, and 2-3 binders all with the North Face warranty to back it up!
This backpack is the answer to all my needs as a student. It has padded shoulder straps, big back compartments, and even a laptop sleeve. The only drawback to this bag is the price, but for pretty much all North Face products you get what you pay for, and that's top of the line quality.
My second TNF backpack. This is a great daypacksuper sturdy zippers, ample room. Not really big though. One great looking backpack to boot. Can't go wrong with this as a durable daypack. Extra padded shoulder straps are nice. Would highly recommend.
Great backpack. It takes weight quite well and always feels secure, especially with the chest strap. Your cargo doesn't move around a lot. The build quality is excellent. I'm sure this will be my backpack of choice to use for at least the next 10 years.
I love my North Face Recon backpack!!! It's great as a carry-on for the plane, for hiking, and hauling around my books around campus. It has so many little places to put stuff, and I love the mesh part in the front. I fill that up with all kinds of stuff I need to get to often, so I don't have to open up the whole bag.
I am a motorcyclist and I ride to schoool. This backpack fits the German half cut helmets PERFECTLY. The style and the size of the backpack is PERFECT! Anyone who is looking to get a cool Northface backpack that has EVERYTHING you can imagine... this is DEFINITELY the one!!
This bag is perfect for commuting to school and work. It has a place for your laptop and mine fits perfectly (14.1"). It has tons of pockets, so more...
I bought this backpack for my laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) but it will not fit in the padded compartment. So I bought a sleeve for padding and it fits more...
