The North Face Radish Mid-Layer Fleece Jacket isn't the ordinary boring pub-crawl fleece. It's made for severe weather conditions in the planet's most extreme environments. The Pontetorto hard shell fleece-face resists abrasion and is really fun to say. The North Face's FlashDry technology reduces dry times dramatically, and strategically-placed reinforced zones protect the Radish from wear caused by pack straps.

  • Pontetorto hard-face, stretch fleece for abrasion-resistance
  • Soft-to-the-touch microcheck brushed interior
  • Laser-cut chest pocket for no-bulk storage
  • FlashDry technology for dramatically reduced dry time
  • Reinforced shoulders and hips resist wear from pack straps
  • Flat-locked seams reduce irritation and chafing
  • Fitted hood swivels with head so it doesn't get in the way of vision

Great Technology!

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:Runs small

I have used this all the time and LOVE it! I got it as a mid layer and use it so much! I have even used it as coverage in rain and only got wet on the nylon under the arms because of the Flash Dry Technology! It worked great and I am a huge fan! I also love the whole Meru Line! Great jacket! IT DOES RUN PRETTY SMALL! I bought a medium and had to exchange for a large and it is perfect, not to loose or tight! Wish it had hand pockets but its purpose is a mid layer so it serves it well. Great!

Great technical layer!

If you have the personal style to pull it off walking down the street.. more power to you.. it looks great! But the real magic to this fleece is in its highly technical construction, giving it a very snug athletic fit that moves well with you, warms you in an assuring way (not muggy or heavy), and is extremely comfortable.

Great article of clothing and well worth having as your warm layer -for anything from walking around in windy mizzle to rock climbing and hiking cold mountain passes!

    Athletic fit

I'm a men's L in 99% of North Face's tops and jackets, and when I ordered the Radish the first time around, that's the size I chose. This jacket is definitely tight-fitting, so if you're planning on layering, I'd size up. I'm 6', 200 lbs and ended up swapping the L for XL.

      Lighter than expected

      • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I was hoping for a bit more insulation value on this jacket. I'm going to keep it but I have to reevaulate my layering system to account for this item's lesser R value. Used it for a snowshoeing backpacking trip to 11,000 ft campsite first week in Feb. Was an excellent option when climbing with a pack on. The wind resistance was helpful. But when I stopped climbing my layering was not adequate. I'm considering adding something like a merino baselayer and or a patagonia better sweater.

      Nice fit

Would have kept it but decided that the Patagonia R-1 Hoody that I already have does essentially the same thing. I have a slight build and often find clothes too roomy, but this TNF fit snugly, a big plus. Best part was the hood. It fits close and comes down completely over the forehead to the eyebrows. Sometimes I have to wear a beanie in extreme cold because a hood won't cover that far. It also zips up to the nose go give good overall face coverage. Nice jacket if you are out in the cold more often than I am and if you have the niche for it.

        So far, so great

        • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Used this today on a hike. It's unbelievably warm and wind proof. The quick dry material didnt get sweat heavy. I like the way the hood fits and can be used under a helmet and the zipper goes high in front to cover your mouth and cheeks. I had no issues with the zipper rubbing my chin.

The fit: This is a technical midlayer. It's formed closer to the body and streches for free movement. If you are looking for more of a standard "sweatshirt" fit then look at the TNF CIPHER HYBRID HOODIE.

Note: The thumb holes are a little small. I'm 5'10" and 185lbs, the large fit me perfectly while using the HH Warm base layer with a drylogic long sleeve T over the base.

        So far, so great

        Not the Right Fit

        • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I purchased this product from backcountry, and was excited about the look and styling. After receiving the product, I realized that it had an annoying fit. The zipper length is longer and much stiffer than expected. When standing upright and zipped up to the neck, the jacket wears fine and flat along the stomach, but when I sit down the zipper bunches up and protrudes out as if it was compensating for belly fat that I don't have. I ended up returning the product.

        Outstanding warmth

        • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I took this up Mt. Whitney two days after thanksgiving. This thing was extremely warm and did its job keeping me warm. It is tight fitting but after two seconds you don't feel it anymore and the tight fit keeps it out of the way. Recommended for anyone going up into the mountains.

        Tight fitting

        • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I tried this jacket on and noticed it was very tight fitting but stretches to allow you to move properly. This is one of the few TNF jackets that I sort of liked. If you love TNF jackets then definitely look into getting this one.I wish it had more pockets though.

I am 6'3", 210lbs with 42" chest and 38"waist. typically I'm L in TNF gear, but would I be best to go to XL in this piece?
