Prophecy Jacket - Men's

Over the years, The North Face built a legacy around the burly construction and waterproof breathable HyVent DT fabric of the Men’s Prophecy Jacket—a legacy designed for skinning, sliding, or sending. The North Face stacked this performance-fit shell with vented chest pockets to keep you cool and water-resistant PU zippers to fully lock out the elements. Weighing in at a scant 13.5 ounces the low bulk Prophecy packs away with ease and has a hardly noticeable feel. Whether you’re on a burly trad route or running laps off the tram, this low-bulk shell shields you from the elements and includes an adjustable hood, cuffs, and hem for a dialed fit.

Bottom Line: Sent from on-high to provide you with elemental protection.

Hi Edmund as far as keeping you dry this jacket will handle anything you throw at it. Totally waterproof/breathable. It is just shell though so for colder conditions (snow) you'll definitely want to layer up. Another note is that while it does have an cinch/adjustable hem but doesn't have a powder skirt. Hope that helps.

What's the difference between The North Face's Performance

What's the difference between The North Face's Performance fit and Standard fit?
(Like between this jacket and the Titan jacket?)
Thanks

Ivan,

Performance fit is a more snug fit then the Standard fit. It is generally more tapered to the body, and the standard fit has a bit more room to move around in.

Pockets are little too high

The pockets are located towards the mid section of the jacket and stowing things in them may be a little awkward as it will stick out of your chest region out a bit.

I'm going to costa rica during the rainy season and we're backpacking over there with heavy packs. Would this keep me dry, and would it be likely to tear because of my heavy pack?

i think this jacket is pretty similar to the venture jacket, except for the pockets. So, it is very lightweight, very thin, extremily waterproof shell, that won´t hold up the rubbing on the shoulders.

Like Blaine said, go for something more heavy if you are going to hike around with heavy packs. If you are going with a light daypack go with the venture parka or jacket, this one is more climbing i think.

It's very possible that this won't hold up but it might. It also might not hold out the water day after day. The fabric is a single layer I believe, and isn't as durable as some of the heavier ones like Gore Pro. I'd look for something with reinforced shoulders or something a little more durable. If you're not going to be out in the rain constantly, this might work fine, and if you don't mind your jacket being pretty well used by the end of the trip. Also with the constant rubbing it can loosen up the fabric around your shoulders. that's why you may want something with a heavier fabric around the high stress/wear areas.

Just wondering how the sizing is on this one. I generally wear a large, but I hear the Prophecy runs big so you can layer? I don't wanna a pseudo parachute that will drag me around in the wind...

I think a large would be fine in this jacket for you.
