Absolutely rippin pair os hikers/school shoes. They're just beefy enough for my little boy to think he's a big mountain man but they're great for school as well. Very glad we found these!!!

I have found most TNF shoes my son wears fit pretty standard. He usually wears a wide, but has never complained about any TNF shoes as being to narrow. I hope this is helpful.

My 9 year old loves these only one warning that the shoe laces have a hard time staying tied. We have to double and triple knot them because the laces are slippery I think and do not stay tied. This is our second pair of them and we love them but the lace issue was a problem with the last ones as well.

Be aware that kids size 3 and up do not come with the elastic lacing system. Not a big deal, but a disappointment to my 9 year old when they arrived and he was expecting them to have it, as was I. The plastic clip that holds the elastic lacing system on the smaller sizes broke two days after my 7 year old got his. Could've got warranty service, but I shouldn't have to on a two day old shoe and he wanted to keep them as they were.
Bottom line, great shoes, questionable quality on the elastic lacing system, less than stellar communication on the part of backcountry on which laces come with which sizes.
One final note, while CS has been great in the past, this time Bc.com agents told me multiple on the phone and in chat sessions that they would get the snafu resolved asap as we had a trip coming up which is why I had paid for expedited shipping. They didn't come through and I had to repeatedly contact them for follow up which ultimately was. "Call TNF for warranty service, they're great about this kind of thing." Hopefully, this was an anomaly and not indicative of the direction of CS @ backcountry.com.

if you mean these particular sneakers, the sizes from 1 to 5.5 is for "big kids" (10-16 yrs.old), sizes listed as 10-13 is for "little kids" (4-9 yrs.old).
