Description

More down for your high-ascent ups.

Hunker down with the ultimate warmth of your North Face Prism Optimus Down Jacket and laugh in the face of Old Man Winter's brutal onslaught. Whether you're mid-belay or hanging out at the summit, 700-fill down insulation fights off the cold while 30D nylon toughs out the alpine environment around you. The mountains are going to have to work a little harder if they want to send you home in a shivering mess.
  • 700-Fill down offers excellent loft, good rebound from compression, and a warmth-to-weight ratio that surpasses any synthetic insulating material
  • 30D Nylon shell fabric with DWR treatment helps repel water and maintain necessary breathability for the down insulation
  • Fully welded baffles trap heat to keep you warm in even the harshest cold, while hemline cinch cord and elastic-bound cuffs help completely seal out remaining cold and wind
  • Harness-friendly pockets allow for layering and warmth even when you’re clad in climbing gear
  • Compresses into it's own pocket taking up minimal pack space
  • Summit Series design means it’s made for athletic pursuits in harsh environments

I absolutely love this coat. This coat is extremely warm, comfortable, and best of all lightweight. I also enjoy the fact that it has a brimmed hood. Nice feature. I would recommend it, if you're looking for something very warm!

This is the top level of insulated down Jackets, its amazingly warm, and still very light, can be compressed down into a stow pocket, and keeps out the elements. If your a skier looking for a bomber parka style everyday jacket, this is not what your looking for, but if your expeditioning, mountaineering, or snow camping, don't go with out the Prism Optimus.

this jacket is awesome, so very warm and comfortable, its so lite and comfortable that i really cant feel it when its on! i have worn it in negative 6f wind chills with just a regular T-shirt under it and i was perfectly warm!

my first impression however was "Im sending it back!"
why? because i was not understand the cinch cords! i couldn't figure out how to keep them from automatically just going back after being pulled and having the hood fall back off my head.. but when you grab the concept of the hidden cinch thing's inside the hood! it works great and stay exactly where you draw them to..

at first it felt like i was pulling them so hard they would break and in the end i just went for it and pulled them good and felt them going through and that's when it all stayed to where i pulled them.

so don't be afraid to give them a good ole tug!

the hood is awesome too, its nicely insulated and works wonders.

i would say it has ample pocket space, although the pockets are Not! fleece lined they are however very nice and warm and soft!

im 5'10 160 165 lbs and i have a Large and it fits perfect.

Does anyone know the fill weight for this...

Depends what you mean by climbing with it. Do you mean wearing it while climbing? If you're going hard, both will be way too much. If you mean a jacket to put on when you stop, the Prism Optimus is the better choice. Quite a bit lighter and more packable. That said, something like Marmot's Ama Dablam jacket would be a better choice, as it'll give you about the same amount of warmth for a lot less weight in a much smaller package.

Mike seems to be wearing a hooded jacket underneath this parka, any idea what of might be? Just trying to figure out Esther I'll need layers with this and if so what kind. Thanks!

It's probably a hard shell, since he said, keeping warm on the down time. He put it over all his other layers when not active. It depends on activity, temp, and if you get cold easily, so many factors.

Yes. My brother is wearing a 3 ply gore tex jacket underneath. Which is not needed.

Does the North Face Prism Optimus Down Jacket have a helmet-compatible hood?

After some investigation, and chatting with Backcountry folks, I've learned that this jacket does have a climbing helmet compatible hood, but not so good with ski helmets. But, depending on the helmet and headsize, things could work out differently. You can always work with Backcountry and perhaps return if you are not satisfied with the hood. Just a thought, and worth exploring, since this is a nice piece. Hope this helps.
