When a winter storm ambushes your alpine ascent mid-belay, hunker down in The North Face Prism Optimus Down Jacket. Unparalleled 700-fill down insulates while ripstop nylon fabric toughs out any rough-and-tumble beatings from the weather and gravity.

  • Part of the athlete-tested-and-approved Summit Series
  • Fully welded baffles trap heat to keep you warm in even the harshest cold, while hemline cinch cord and elastic-bound cuffs help completely seal out remaining cold and wind
  • Harness-friendly pockets allow for layering and warmth even when you’re clad in climbing gear
  • Stash the Prism Optimus in its very own stuff-sack when you’re back at base camp

Bottom Line: High-caliber insulating construction for high-altitude ascents.

Really dig the new design. I'm a big fan of the duel chest pockets and colors...but the biggest thing for me is the new puffy hood! The North Face Prism Optimus Down is such a key piece for any trip big or small!!!!!

I'd pay more for a few ounces less in the jacket and a higher quality down fill, but this is a great jacket. The fabric, especially at the shoulders, feels much tougher than that of competing jackets. I'm glad they used Pertex Endurance for the shell. It is a nice compromise between weatherproofness and breathability. There's no comment on down fill, but this is warmer than a Rab Neutrino, so I'm hazarding a guess of 250 to 300 grams. The only downside of this jacket is its weight. A higher quality down fill would have brought down the weight by less than 2 ounces. If you want the most down loft for your weight, look at the Marmot Greenland. If you want a great combination of bomber construction and warmth and don't mind a few extra ounces, this is a great jacket.

Hi Walt a large will fit you, you'll definitely have plenty of room. That being said depending on how you want it to fit you may want to consider a medium.

Bomber Cold Weather protection

This is a very nice Jacket. Love all the pockets. 2 chest, 2 hands, 1 internal security pocket which is used to stuff the whole jacket into for packing. It has 2 internal stretch water bottle pockets. Great down hood with brim that is fully adjustable. Fully welded baffles eliminate stitching. Pertex endurance wich is 100 percent windproof and 1000mm water column. Highly water resistant and very breathable. All the zippers run really smooth. The main front zip can be zipped up from the bottom if needed. Great lightweight and very durable down jacket the packs down small for how warm it is. Not sure on the fill weight but I guessing around 300 grams. Love this Jacket.

it is excellent, light enough, and stylist.
but just one disappointment is that the hood has a hard hat front. it is a little not matching the hood or the jacket.
after all, i speak highly of prism!
