Just picked this up for my GF's daughter and it's a well made jacket. the jacket itself is very thin, prob only good for spring conditions... if you want to use this for a winter coat you'll definitely need to have additional layers.
I've also notice that TNF jackets for kids typically run a tad bit smaller so if you want the jacket to last a few years. make sure you buy a few sizes up.

this jacket is very thin, you'll definitely need to layer her with additional fleeces or sweaters...

Hi Katie, depending on where you are wintering, yeah you could use this as a winter jacket... you will just need to layer under it... The hood with a collar that you see is just whats called a "drop hood" meaning the hood can fall away from the collar when its completely zipped up...
