The North Face designed the Women's Potosi Jacket to give you bomber protection in the harshest environments. This jacket synergizes high-tech fabrics and internal membranes to help regulate your body temperature in the most grueling mountain conditions.

  • Hydrophobic HyVent Alpha membrane uses micropores (half a million per square inch) to let water vapor escape while blocking external moisture
  • Body Mapping technology strategically puts the right materials in the right places for maximum comfort
  • Fully taped seams stop water from working its way in through the stitching
  • Underarm zippered vents let you dump excess heat during muscle-working ascents
  • PrimaLoft One insulation helps keep warmth in so you don't feel the chill when the temperature drops
  • Nonabrasive cuff tabs and a hem cinch let you seal out the elements

Bottom Line: Bring it.

Decent jacket

I've owned a North Face shell for 10 years and it's worn well. I needed a new look and a new color. I got the kokomo green on sale with free shipping. I find the zippers a little difficult sometimes but a friend told me she had a jacket with well taped zippers and that was just how they worked. I wear a size 8-10 and the 10 is perfect. I happened to stumble upon a Primaloft Nano Puff Patagonia jacket in nearly the same shade and it compliments it as an extra layer when needed underneath.

What kind of conditions is this jacket appropriate for? I am

What kind of conditions is this jacket appropriate for? I am looking for a good shell for my summer field position in the high arctic. Temps will be low 40s, typically, and it will often be foggy and windy. I will be both moving around and standing still frequently. I'm just concerned that this jacket might be too warm. Is it appropriate for a fall/spring coat?
Thanks for your help!

Its hard to give temp ratings on jackets since everyone is different. It only has 40g of synthetic insulation, that's rather light. It should be quite perfect unless you run really hot or are doing high output activities.

Great but fit?

By:
January 20, 2012

I would like to say this was a wonderful jacket w/ excellent style. But the fit was just not for me. I normally wear xs jackets just right, but need something with roomier so i had gotten a s. But it was tight in a few areas, while my arms were stretching with too much room left. Will be returning this. Went with the Patagonia Primo instead.

Killer jacket

First off, I am very picky when it comes to shelling out $350 for a jacket. I was skeptical at first, but this baby is worth every penny. It's incredibly warm - partly because of the Primaloft One insulation and partly due to well placed raschel (the soft and fuzzy material) added to the inside of the jacket at the hips and shoulders (check out my photo to see the raschel on the hips). All of the outer seams exposed to the elements are fully sealed and the zippers are easy to open and close (a huge pro for me because the last thing you want to deal with when it's below freezing is a zipper that won't zip). The back is slightly longer than the front, which is nice because it covers more of your behind for those frigid days. There are indeed 2 pit zips, 2 front pockets, and 1 internal chest pocket, but there is one more handy external pocket on the left side next to the main zipper. I use it to put important stuff I need access to quickly (money, ID, chapstick). The 2 vertical zip hand pockets are cleverly positioned closer to the middle of the jacket near the main zipper; so if you pocket a heavy item (say, a smartphone) it doesn't bump into your hip with every stride you take. Finally, the Ultramarine Blue color isn't represented well on this site. It's definitely purple. The photo on Zappos.com is far more accurate: http://www.zappos.com/the-north-face-womens-potosi-jacket-ultramarine-blue

Bottom line: If you have the cash and need a really warm winter jacket with tons of extras, this is it. And if you don't like it, Backcountry has the best return policy ever.
