The perfect Do Everything Jacket

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Any time you buy a pro shell jacket you are going to get a good jacket. What separates them is features, cuts, face fabric and little small details. The North face point five is very minimalist in features but excels everywhere else. It has a very flattering feminine cut-curved below the chest than flaring back out again slightly at the hips. The Jacket is cut quite long in the front and rear drop so it provides ample coverage. 1 piece hood fits nicely over a helmet but does look so big that it looks goofy. The face fabirc is burly yet still soft to the touch. it repels water and does not "wet out" easily. this is a sign of a good DWR coating.
Some of the little details- large volume hand pockets that are not obscurred by wearing a pack. hidden stealth adjusters in the hood and hem. pliable brim on the hood. Light weight so the jacket works well skiing a bowl as well as hiking your local trail and finally shopping in town. North face also has a wonderful array of color choices (these are my wife's favorite jackets.
Lastly PRICE. It costs less than most pro shell jackets.

Jenna,

The Point Five Jkt from The North Face would be a solid choice for a resort & backcountry ski jacket. It is contructed of Gore Tex Pro Shell with a 70 denier face fabric for extreme durability, yet packs away nicely for the skin uphill & weighs only 15.5 oz . It does not have a powder skirt for the deep days, but is a nice durable, packable do-it-all shell.

For skiing, this may be a better option than Alpine Project shell you also inquired about due to the heavier duty 70D face fabric. If you ski in the trees, the extra durability will help out.
