When summit day finally comes, you'll be glad that you have the The North Face Point Five Jacket in your arsenal. This burly technical shell's three-layer Gore-Tex Pro Shell makes sure you stay dry and comfortable whether you're on belay or standing on the peak. This minimalist shell lives in The North Face's exclusive European Style collection so you can bring a fresh look to the top.

  • Waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Pro 3L shell is durable, blocks out the most ruthless alpine weather, and allows your excess heat to escape
  • Fully taped seams mean water won’t roll down the fabric and sneak in through the crevices
  • Attached hood blocks out the ruthless wind and fits over your climbing helmet
  • Backcountry.com is the exclusive US retailer of the Point Five jacket

Bottom Line: Always error on the side of awesome.

This was the item of kit that I hunted far and wide for, and it hasn't disappointed. As a 3L Proshell it delivers on all counts - the material is fantastic, as is the fit, and it is super lightweight. I need to have faith in my shell, and I do with the Point Five. I didn't expect to buy TNF (I aimed initially for an Arc'teryx but didn't like the fit or hood, then Marmot but the sleeves were too long, and finally settled on this). I have used it in some gnarly conditions, and it just throws any moisture. I'm 5'11 (1.8m) in height, slim build and got a Medium which is a great fit for me. Minimalist design, nothing extraneous, just trustworthy performance.

Dude your review is identical to my search for the perfect shell. I got an arcteryx soft shell but for the money it was not fully waterproof and the rest is just much more by like 150 bucks compared to other companies. Marmot just plain sucks as their sleeves are made for giant people even in a medium. That actually makes me upset!! I just got this jacket, but the new version and its better than all.

This is my favorite coat. The pro shell material is burly tough and the brim of the visor is significantly better than previous TNF designs--it holds shape better as it is stiffer, compared to the brim of my TNF Mountain Guide jacket. I prefer this shell over the Mountain Guide because it is 3L with no liner material (Mountain Guide is 2-ply w/ a thin nylon liner) so this shell is lighter. The Pro shell fabric is also tougher (but louder) compared to the 2L Performance shell. There are only two pockets (compared to the Mountain Guides 5+water bottle holder), but the one on the right has a small "security" pocket inside of it that can be used for small valuables, an MP3 player or a cell phone. Another feature I like is this shell has embedded "pushbuttons" inside the fabric (instead of the usual external ones) that are used to loosen the waist drawstring and ones for loosening up the face drawstring after you have tightened them. The one for the back of the hood is a traditional external pushbutton. Hopefully that makes sense, but I definitely like it. Anyhow this shell is more minimalist. I did not buy mine from Backcountry however.

Sick - the fabric is absolutely one of the most bombproof Gore 3-layers I've ever seen. It's still not going to weigh you down or limit mobility, but if you want your gear to perform and last longer than you this jacket is pretty tough to beat.
