The Patrol Glove from The North Face is an industry standard, and there are a few good reasons why. It starts with the 2-layer stretch nylon shell which covers the HyVent waterproof insert for excellent protection from wetness, day in and day out. Under that, you'll find The North Face's FlashDry lining that helps to minimize sweating and, when you do sweat, serves to wick that moisture away from your hands before it has a chance to make you cold. The palm is made of water-resistant leather, so it'll hold up to the rigors of everyday use without wearing out prematurely. In case you're out for a long time, or the day is just cold, there is 100-gram PrimaLoft One synthetic insulation in the palm, and 200-gram on the back of the hand.

Quick note: this review is of the 2013-14 season glove which I purchased this fall from backcountry. That's important because the new season glove went to HyVent as opposed to Gore-Tex.
Four outings into the season with the patrol glove and I am very impressed with it's performance so far. For me (perpetually cold hands) it was important to find a glove with a good amount of warmth that was also somewhat minimal - not a huge oven mitt of a glove. The patrol fits that particular niche very well for me. I've used it on a sub-20s windy New England morning and didn't think twice about my hands, they were warm and dry the whole way. Throw in Gore-Tex (at least in the previous season model) and this becomes a "daily glover" for your hands. Velcro wrist strap helps keep things nicely tucked into your jacket sleeve.
Jon MillerHey Brian. This past season my gloves (the gore-tex) model definitely got pretty wet on long damp days. Not unexpected being leather gloves, but on that front if you really want dryness then leather is not the way to go. Put another way, Hyvent probably won't make much difference for dryness, in my opinion.
Jon Millerdon't you mean the other way around? the new gloves say gore -tex while the older season ones say hyvent.
Tseten D.I asked backcountry about hyvent vs Gore-Tex and they said the description is inaccurate.....it should read Gore-Tex. Wish they would correct the description, can be misleading....
