Ultra-accommodating and highly logical for your backcountry pleasure.
The largest, most featured, most capable backcountry ski-board pack in The North Face's lineup, The North Face Patrol 34 Backpack holds all your gear and then some smartly and in style. With 2135 cubic inches of carrying capacity, there's plenty of room for extra layers, food, and water. A large avy tool pocket holds shovel and probe, while the simple, stable, and dialed Hinch carry secures your board(s) vertically, diagonally, or in an A-frame. A bottom pocket holds skins and crampons. The huge side zipper access lets you get at your goods without taking off pack or board(s). How's that for logical design?
This bag uses the exclusive and basically indestructible Bombastic fabric (it's the same material auto-airbags are made from) in high-abrasion areas for enduring performance during rugged use and abuse. AWESOME Ski/Hike/Travel/Overnight Bag
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I love this bag, it has so many cool things that are not listed on the TNF website and alot of websites. it has reflecter marks on the yellow zippers, it has a small lanyard in the mesh zippered pocket. it has a water bottle pocket holder, the water bladder compartment holds a 2 liter giggerig hydration pack perfectly. the back part has a removable curved thick plastic that shapes to your spine with a removable aluminum rod which gives it the shape, so that helps your spine. It stays securly on your back, its nice to have 2 big compartments, so u dont lose anything. there are other sleeves inside the compartments which might hold hiking poles or climbing things. it does hold alot i hope the photo shows it, and it can hold a few more things as well. its light, durable, compressable, i do not see anthing wrong with the bag, if you want more space buy a bigger bag, if u want a smaller bag, buy a smaller bag. but this one is perfect. holds skis on the sides-but it works better with the bag being full so its not as flimsy-obviously. water resistant zippers, i held the bad under a faucet and very little got in through the zippers, so it will be fine if your caught in the rain. It comes in 2 sizes, so im 5'10" and 215 lbs and i have the Small to Medium size, i think its a 15-18 inch back. jeffery on backcountry.com was well very helpful and shipped it within hrs of ordering it. cant beat it!
Pretty good...lashings are MEH
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Switched from an old Dakine Heli Pro to this bag for longer days and multi day tours. It does a good job, but it feels small for 34L. The bag fits incredibly well on the back and I like how it is longer and sits closer to the body. The lashing points could use a bit of work, and the bag is completely missing loops on the underside. Material seems to be incredibly durable and the crampon pocket on the bottom is a very nice touch. Plenty of space for your BSP and layers. I would definitely only recommend this as a day pack.
Holds about everything
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Very large Shovel and tool pocket. Larger goggle pocket. Removable frame sheet. Love the side entry. Pretty much a great pack. The skins pocket is awesome. Keeps those frozen suckers away from your dry layers or items.
will the bca 300 probe fit in the pocket?...
will the bca 300 probe fit in the pocket? (what is the size of the avy pocket?)
Yes, the front avy gear pocket on The North Face Patrol 34 is way big and will have no issue storing the BCA 300 Probe. Probably a better fit even than the Mammut Nirvana Pro 35.
