Wear The North Face Women's Paramount Porter Convertible Pants on chilly morning hikes, then zip off the lower legs and enjoy the short-shorts once the day warms up. Treated with a DWR finish to provide water-repellency, and armed with super quick drying fabric, the Paramount Porter Convertible Pants keep you comfortable should you get soaked when fording the river. With belt loops and a drawcord waist, The North Face Porter pants give you plenty of adjustment options. The pant legs zip off when temps rise as you hike, or if you prefer to keep your legs on, the cuffs roll up.
Bottom Line: Pull on The North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants and adapt to the cold, warm, cold again weather.
I'm 5'5 153 lbs and normally wear a size 10 or medium in virtually all the clothing I order. In these pants, I ordered a size 10 as normal but they were too tight in the thigh (I could zip them but they looked painted on); I then ordered a 12 and they looked pretty darn good but I like a lot of room when I hike so I sent them back and ordered the 14 (yikes). The 14 are a bit too big and I probably should have stuck with the 12 but they'll still work for me. Either way the pant is worth it. I got the alloy gray.
I took these pants on a whale watching trip to Baja where we were out in the sea twice a day in little boats. Although I got wet from whale spray, and general sea water from being in a small boat, they dried quickly. I liked being able to take off the legs quickly, and didn't find, as others did, a problem with getting them off my feet, as I was wearing reef walkers, not hiking boots. They pack light, too! My only problem with them is the crotch is a bit tight, so not comfortable for me to wear on a plane trip or car trip sitting for long periods of time. I actually changed into a more comfortable pair of shorts each time we got back to shore. Sitting felt so much better with more room in the seat. Unless I lose a little weight (I'm a size 6-8) I will limit my use of these pants to hiking, standing up activities, etc. I love the color (sand) and the fabric is great, as is the design. I am 5'5", and weight about 128, got the size 8, regular, not the tall. I'm sure the next size up would be too big, so I'm not exchanging them. Length is perfect. I am slender, though, so the legs don't drag as they may on someone with wider legs or thighs. I wish they fit better as I'd be wearing them all the time if they did!
"these pants are NOT low rise, they are regular rise."Really? Because I just ordered these pants on account of about 50 reviews wherein it was mentioned that they ARE lowrise. Are you really short-waisted, like me?

The pants are really comfortable, found them a bit small on the sizing through the thighs but completely comfortable. Pockets are a bit small--carry gear somewhere else. The fact that are pants, capris, AND shorts is really great. I used all three styles in ONE day!
I loved these pants. They fit well -- true to size. I'm 5'2" and ordered a 4 short and they're just the right length. They also look good and the legs zip on and off easily. They hold up well too.
Great concept, features, quality construction and fabric. Loved everything but the way they fit. Shorts binding at the thigh; not comfortable in the crotch when sitting. I took my measurements with tape and ordered using the size chart on line. These pants do not appear to be designed for a body with even small curves. Wish they would have fit cause I found them to be a very stylish and functional convertible pant. Perhaps other bodies will have better luck.
I already have a pair of these is 12 long (I went up a size in these, for my hips) and they are perfect! However, I bought the same size in a different color, and they felt almost a size smaller. My other pants still fit perfectly, so I can only assume they are sized wrong. However, I love the other pair and still recommend the pants.
Just ordered for a trip to Scotland...trying to pack light for unpredictable weather. Performance still to be determined, however, a comment about fit ... I am a solid 12 and 5'8". I ordered a size up and longs after reading other posted comments. Definitely the right choice. Very comfortable. Wish there were more color options!
I like these pants. I had ordered another type but these were sent to me instead. After trying them, I decided to keep them. I am glad they sent regular because short would have been too short. I am 5'3".
Love these pants. I did a lot of research before I bought these, and my only concern was that even in the "long" length, they would be too short as I have a 33" inseam. They fit perfectly and they were the only pants I wore on a whirlwind 5-day tour of Japan. They performed flawlessly, and I especially appreciated their water-resistance on a particularly blustery, rainy day! And my Mom bought a pair of them because she liked mine so much!
On behalf of the short people, these pants fit great! I love them! I'm 5'2, and it is hard finding pants like this that aren't super long. They are slimming and comfortable.
I purchased these pants based on the reviews here and have been very pleased. Do order your size in long rather than regular length as they tend to run short. I wore these pants while traveling and hiking recently and they were comfortable and the fit was perfect. Highly recommended.
I am a size 6 according to the size chart and ordered an 8 after reading many posts here. I am glad I did since I did not want a very snug fit. If I were to use it for casual purpose, I would order a 6. However, for hiking I need some room for movements. The crotch is gusseted so it's very comfortable. I like the option of also having a capri by rolling up the hem and use the button tab as a holder (similar to your shirts that can roll up the long sleeve with the tab and button). The interior waist string helps to tighten the waist because the waist is a little loose for me. The cut is slim looking and very sexy. It is not loose like most convertible pants, which is a big plus. Unzipping the bottom portion will give you the short lengh of about a 6" inseam. This is another nice feature. I don't like shorts that reach above the knees. There are lots of pockets. One rear pocket has zipper and the other has velcro. Two front pockets on the thighs have 2 slim velcro tabs on each pocket. I am 5'4" and ordered the "regular" length and it fits perfectly. Actually I ordered 2 pairs in 2 different colors and 1 pair is about 1" longer than the other. This has no bottom zipper, so I just hemmed the long one up an inch. I really like the fact that there is no bottom zipper, but the trade-off is you have to take off your boots to remove the bottom part. The zippers that remove the bottom portions of the pants have tabs marking the "R" and "L" legs which is also another nice feature. I would definitely recommend buying.
I liked these pants a lot. I used them on a safari and on a 7 day hiking trip. They were comfortable to layer over base layers for the hike and for the safari I could wash the dust out at night and they would dry by morning. They seem to run pretty true to size--I was nervous that they would run small. I should have gotten a smaller size, but the size larger worked out fine. I think they have a pretty feminine fit with how they curve with your hips. I think the length is pretty normal (I have short legs and they were a little long, but that was also with the wrong size).
Finally someone made a cute hiking pant that converts into cute shorts. Cut to fit....and enhance the view for the hikers behind you! That's alright by me! Oh yes, I'm just shy of 5'8" - so I absolutely suggest going with the Long length.
Went from NJ to AZ for 10 days. Knew that the weather would start off cool then be hot then back to down right chilly. These pants worn in full on the plane kept me comfortable. With the legs zipped off, deplaning into 110 degrees was quite comfortable. Not to mention how perfect they were for our full day trip to the Grand Canyon. Zip on, zip off as weather dictated. They wash well & repelled water as well. Good find.
I took the advice of some of the reviews and ordered a size larger than my usual size. When they arrived they were a size larger than me & I had to return them for my usual size (4). Even then, these pants a bit larger than what I had hoped, but the drawcord waist fixes that. I'm 5'2 and can rarely find trousers/pants with a perfect inseam, but these (in petite) were right on the money. The zip off legs are labeled "R" and "L" at the zipper. The material is great for summer hikes and is fast wicking.
i bought a pair of these pants last year and wore them all summer. they are great for backpacking/hiking, light weight and fast drying. plus they're comfy and look good too (no hoola hoop zippers!) the only thing that could be better is bigger pockets... but i came back for a second pair!
I ordered a pair of these for an upcoming backpacking trip. I ended up returning them only because the fabric was a little heavier weight than I was looking for. These would be great for spring and fall hiking. For summer I prefer a lighter weight fabric.
These pants are stylish (for hiking pants) and fit really well! I'm 5'3" and 100 lbs, so pants usually look too bulky on me or are too wide on the hips. I ordered the petite length which was a bit on the shorter side, but it still looks great!
Love 'em, especially the fact that they come in long. They may not be long enough for all tall people, but if you're like me - 5'9", size 10-12 - the 10L or 12L should work for you. Although they are 100% nylon, they have more "give" than other travel pants I've tried - almost like pants with a bit of Lycra. They roll up with tabs to make waders (I can't bring myself to call them "capris"), or zip-off for shorts that are not too short. The fit is flattering in a low-slung way; if your favorite jeans are Levi 501s, but you wish the 501 waist were a bit lower, you will like these pants. These are my new favorite backpacking pants and will be my one pair of pants on a 9-month round-the-world trip. I would love it if I could get (or make!) more pants based on this template.
I love these pants! They are useful for a universal amount of scenes and activities! They are very comfortable and they fit very well! They are pretty much the perfect length, I have long legs and they come to mid foot. I highly recommend them!
These are my favorite hiking pants. I'm about to order another pair. They fit perfectly and they're really cute, unlike most hiking pants/clothes. The convertible option of going to shorts is great for the summer and it's a great length as shorts, not too short and not too long. This series of The North Face seem to run smaller than all the other brands. Usually, hiking clothes are too large for me but this size 2 is a real size 2. The fit is great.
I took these pants with me on a cross country road trip to the Colorado mountains to go hiking and camping in for a week. I got them a size bigger for comfort and I would recommend them to anyone. They dry fast, pack well and are made of an extremely breathable material to keep you from sweating in the sun. An essential item in my pack.
I ordered these pants specifically for a backpacking trip in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness in Idaho. I wore them three days and they were comfortable, cool, and came through some seriously rough terrain without a snag or tear. I would definitely consider ordering another pair. Like the reviews recommended...I am a size 8-10 and went with the 10 long. Fit great!
Although it took several trys at ordering to get it right size wise, when I finally did it was worth it! These are the best pants/shorts I have found and I have been looking for years! I am 5'3" tall, 115 lbs and normally wear a size petite 6 or regular 4 in pants. The regular 4 was too long, the short 4 was too short in the crotch length and the 6 short was the right length and had room to move. Hope this helps when ordering.
Love the pants. They are comfortable, low rise and have no elastic around the waste...thank goodness. After washing and drying they shrunk an entire size - so buy up a size or do not dry!!! Otherwise - love the pants...perfect for the fashion conscience hiker.
I loved everything about these pants, except the length. I ordered the size 4 longs and they were way too short. I am 5'10" and the pants hit a good 3 inches above my ankle bone. They would have been great if I wanted a capri. I agree with the anonymous poster before me - manufacturers need to understand there are tall, fit women out there. You can always hem pants, but you can't add material.
My husband and I like to geocache on the weekends and for anyone who is into the sport knows that sometimes the cache may lay past a patch of posion ivy or thick thorn bushes. So we enjoy pants that can zip on legs and zip off leges for those warm TN summers. I love the look off these pants, not mom pants, they do well in thorn bushes and protect me from direct contact with the ivy. I've had to crawl on the ground and they really hold together! I really like everything about them!
These pants are great! Extremely stylish and comfortable. I actually bought them thinking they converted to shorts and was disappointed to see they only roll up to capris, but I'm not sorry that I kept them. I am a size 4 and these are true to size, but I am also on the short side so tall women beware!
Well, I've been looking for a slim fitting low rise convertible pant and was hoping that these would be the answer. First of all, I must say that I ordered a size larger than my normal size (due to some comments in other reviews) and it would have been better to order my normal size (not available however). This pant didn't have a low rise for me but it could have been my boyish shape or that it was too big. It would be great if they would have added a bit of stretch to the fabric...it seemed stiff. A plus though is the length of the short at 6" which is a great hiking length and the option of capri length as well. So try this in your normal size and it could be the pant you are looking for. I wish they would have worked, but they are just not for me. On goes the search.
Being only 5'2", it has been next to impossible to find a convertible pant made that the shorts were short enough. The description mentioned that they had a lower rise waist and a shorter short than the Paramount Convertible, so I decided to give them a try. I ordered them in a size 6 Short (I weigh 116) and Bingo..the shorts were perfect. I still needed to have the pants hemmed even in the Short length, but I always have to, so this was no surprise. The shorts hit my leg in just the right place. All other convertible pants shorts are way too long on me. They are very comfortable and fit me perfectly in the rise as well. I also like a lower rise waist, so these are the ones for me. I ordered two pair in two different colors. Definitely recommend for anyone who prefers a shorter short than most of the convertible pants out there.
I have been using 5 pairs of North Face's older style of zip-off pants for 5 years now and they are my favorites. I was stoked to find this new style, which is stylish enough to wear in public! Better yet, it comes in long length (hard to find!). The fabric is indestructible, and stands up to rock abrasion and bushwhacking better than even Mountain Hardwear. I've been butt-sliding down rock faces in Joshua tree and burrowing through brambles in Anza Borrego and the fabric doesn't even show wear! Note, however that the fit runs small and the thighs are a little narrow; consider going up a size if you are using these solely for hard hikes/backpacking/climbing. Stick to your normal size if you are also wearing these around town and like to look good.
I was unsure about ordering these pants as I am shaped like a woman and have a hard time finding pants that fit. These pants fit great. I have a small waist and "full" thighs and booty. I gave them a 4 because they could be slightly more generous in the thigh, but all in all they are a great fit and look good too. I usually wear a 6 or 8. I ordered the 8 and they are perfect.
I bought these pants for hiking/backpacking, and love them. They are very comfortable, and look great. My only complaint is that the side pockets aren't a little bigger for carrying a map or handkerchief.
I took these pants on a trip to Costa Rica and they definitely performed as promised. They fit well, were light weight, comfortable to wear, and the materieal held up great! Several of my female travel cohorts were so impressed that they are going to buy some as well! It's often difficult for females to find good outdoor clothing and equipment that is made especially for them. I was very happy with these pants and am even going to buy a second pair.
These pants have everything I need and the fabric looks like it would hold up for all my adventures, but I ordered them a size too small. The length was perfect. I returned them and I am awaiting my new pants. I hope they get here soon so I can take them with me on my next trip.
I normally wear a 6 regular, so that's what I ordered. When I got the pants, they fit me like floods. So I ordered a 6 long (which is normally way too long for me). This pair fits a little better, but it is still too short!
Great pants! I looked a long time at REI and other sporting stores, and the pants always looked like balloons on me. I was looking for a lower waist/hip fit and straighter legs. I am going to wear these for long period of time traveling and they need to be comfortable. They look great and feel like pajama pants!
This pant is awesome in all respects, except one (unfortunately a significant one) -- it is short! Yes, even the LONG version! I'm 5'10'' and this pant was about 1-1.5 inches short, hence I had to return it and look for a more tall women friendly version. It is upsetting that despite the fact that many American women are taller than 5'10'', they still continue manufacturing pants that are labeled "tall" but barely cover your ankles. Otherwise, a very good looking, high quality outdoor pant that shorter women would enjoy wearing, I'm sure.
So if you are a regular height like me, i.e. 5ft 6in, get the long version. Especially if you want to wear with hiking boots because those will add a few inches to your height. Otherwise, these pants are great convertible hiking pants! I do wish that someone would tell me what the two elastic belt loops in the back are for!
If youre short on height but long on adventurous spirit these are the pants for you. I have searched everywhere for pants to fit a small woman and these are great! No more shopping in the kid's department for pants that almost fit!
My husband and I ordered the convertible pants to wear on our trek through the Buckskin Gulch. We are very happy with our purchases. The pants dried quickly and it was less to pack with pants and shorts in one.
I purchased these pants for an outdoor vacation from which I just returned. I wore them nearly every day! It was difficult to find pants to fit me, having short legs, but these fit perfectly. (I ordered the "short" length.) I also really like the option of rolling the pants to Capri length with the button tab. I'm sure I'll get much more use of these comfortable pants!
These pants run a bit small, and aren't quite as long as I'd like in the long length, but are otherwise fantastic! They look SO much better than most convertible pants I've tried on, and I've worn them many times. Very rugged and quick drying. Scraping against rocks while climbing and not a bit of wear, they're great! I also love the length of the shorts.
Tired of having to wear men's convertible pants? These have the slightly lower-rise waist more common in women's pants now - they hit just below the navel. They're a quick-dry, wicking material, legs zip on and off easily, pockets have good storage, and they come in short/medium/long inseam lengths. They are sassy and uber-practical. Finally!
I'm 5ft 9in and I ordered the long version. They were plenty long! The pant, however, does run small in size. I'm normally a size 6 to 8 and I ordered a size 12! They seemed really stiff at first but after hiking around in them I was able to maneuver more freely. I love that you can zip off the pant bottom and they're made of a durable material. I know these pants will last me a really long time.
My husband was always yelling at me for wearing jeans for our activities but we do a lot locally and I usually would have to run into the grocery store or my office on the way home. All the hiking pants made me look ridiculous and the biking pants were too revealing, if you know what I mean. I tried these pants on at a shop and liked the look the best. Once I wore them camping I realized how wonderful they were! The roll up and button option (to make capris) is great for our trout fishing trips and mountain bike rides. They really are super soft and comfy too. Now I have pants that really work for our activities that still make me look like a women and I am not embarrassed to wear out!
I am almost 5'9" and got the long sizing on these pants. They are the only convertible pant I found with long sizing and they fit great! They brush the floor without shoes. The fabric is soft and comfortable. I have yet to figure out the purpose of the elastic belt loops (two over the hips) but I am impressed with the variety of pockets, quality zippers and the Capri option straps to roll up the legs. Very versatile pants!
I love the feel of the cloth and the way these pants fit. They are just a little low so they sit on the hip bones comfortably. Very flattering fit. I liked the first pair I purchased so much that I ordered a second pair. I have not had them long, but they are well-made and I anticipate a long wearing garment.
The Paramount Porter Convertible Pants are the first pair of convertible pants that I have tried that actually look semi-stylish. Additionally, I am very satisfied with the length of the "long" pants. I am 5'6 and I ordered the long version and they are perfect, other convertible pants are floods on me. They are very durable and a great choice for hiking, backpacking and other outdoor pursuits. One caution is that the sizes run small. I am a solid size 4-6 for most manufacturers. I ordered the size 6 and find them fine for running around town, but a little snug for activities like backpacking or hiking where you need a little give in the thighs for bending, etc. Overall, I highly recommend these pants for someone looking a for a good pair of hiking pants that also look good, but consider ordering a size larger than your usual.
Best hiking pants I have ever owned. I am 5'8" so most pants are way too short, these are just the right length and with the capri option and short option I will wear them year round. The slimmer fit in the hips and thighs takes a little getting used to (you can really feel the zippers on the leg when hiking/climbing). Also, if you buy a size 6 at the Gap or Banana Republic, buy a size 8 in these pants.
These are wonderful pants. There is no bulkiness around the hips and waist like some other brands of outdoor gear. I get compliments every time I wear them. I plan to order another pair in a different color. The zipper does rub on my thighs, but I got used to it. These are all-around wonderful pants for camping, and around town.
Stylish and durable, yes. Roomy and practical, no. The pockets aren't as spacious as cargo pockets, and the hook-and-loop closure back pocket can be annoying. For a pant as tough as this, I would have hoped to carry more in pockets, but it seems better to stow things in a pack or purse when wearing these.
I think the Paramount Porter Convertible Pants are great. They fit really well and comfortable and does not look dorky like the other convertible pants. I feel that it is functional as well as flattering and can be worn for normal every day use. I have bought two pairs and use it for traveling, hiking, backpacking, or just around town.
I was getting ready for a weekend backpacking trip and were looking for convertible pants. I am only 5'3" and these pants were so perfect. Not only are they functional, kept me warm, but also were stylish. I did a little climbing and it buttons up to be capri lengthperfect for climbing as well.
First of all, these are wonderful pants. They are well made, stylish, and comfortable. Best of all though, is the fact that their regular length is perfect for those of us who are not over five and a half feet tall. The dimensions are perfect and they give a smooth sleek fit. They are very becoming for they have a slim fit but not a tight fit and they add no bulk to the body. They are comfortable enough to wear all day and into the night.
I am short and these hiking pants fit great. Plus the shorts are just the right length. I tried out the pants for the first time in cool weather. The pants did an awesome job of blocking the wind. In addition, it poured on us for about 10 minutes, but the pants were dry within 15. I would highly recommend these pants and am now wanting them in another color.
Finally hiking pants that come in long sizes! Great fit, low on waist, I'm pushing 5'9" and the longs fit me wonderfully. The zip-off shorts are also a great length, meaning they're not too long. Overall, very flattering and a great investment!!
Pants, capris and shorts all in one, and style to boot! They do run a little small. As a size 10-12, I needed the 12s. I am 5'5" and the regular length was perfect; to the floor but I don't step on the hem. The North Face fabric is superior and very soft. The Cargo Green color is a lot warmer than I had imagined.
I wore the pants for the first time over the weekend for a nine mile hike. I started with them as pants, then converted them to shorts (very easy, but did have to take off my shoes first). They were so comfortable and they don't look like balloons! I ordered one size larger than I wear at Gap/Express and that was just right.
I loved the fit of the pants until I washed them. I didn't know that type of fabric could shrink, but they did. I would have given them a 5 otherwise. I'd buy the next size up next time because I really like the fitted style better than all of the other convertible pants I've tried, and the quality is excellent.
After searching for convertible pants with a nice cut to the leg that looked decent, I found the North Face Paramount Porter Convertible Pants. I love the wide waistband and low-rise fit. I also appreciate the fact that they come in long sizes.
The overall style of these pants is refreshing, much more flattering than most hiking pants. Two issues, though: the cargo pockets are ridiculously small, basically only good for an ID or money; also, I just wish the pant leg openings would flare out enough to fit over boots, although at least they are not tapered like many hiking pants! Note: The size ten was just right and I'm usually a size 6/8.
I just purchased these pants and so far I am very happy. They are much more stylish and less frumpy than other convertible pants that I have seen. Plus I like that the shorts are a little shorter instead of knee-length like most convertible pants. My only complaint is that the length is almost too short. I'm 5'9" and I ordered size 6 long, which is a 32 1/2" inseam. The pants are really borderline for being long enough. But it is still better than anything else I've seen out on the market, so I can live with it.
As a petite woman, size 2, these are definitely the best convertibles I've tried yet. There isn't too much extra material around the thigh area like other pants I've tried on. I love the fact that not only do they zip off to be shorts, but you can roll up the ankles and button them to become capris. One question: Why do a lot of these convertible pants have options to tighten the waist (i.e. drawstrings, belts, etc.)? It's not like the waist ever comes big. Weird.
These pants are made of a sturdy material yet lightweight. They look and fit great. I tried the Long and the Regular; sure enough the Long was the ticket (I'm 5'7" with long legs). Unfortunately, the front pockets are too small to stash a passport. One back pocket has a zipper, but that's hardly ideal because you sit/bend it and it's easier to pick-pocket. If that's not a concern for you, I highly recommend these pants!
These pants are greatthey can be worn almost anywhere. I'm 5'2", wear a 0-2 consistently, and these fit well. They have a nice trim fit, not bulky or rounded. Since I read the reviews that said they run short, I ordered the regular length and they're perfect.
I love these pants! They are perfect! So comfortable to travel in and they are low rise. I always have a problem finding low rise pants that are practical and stylish. They are the perfect inseam for me too. Which is rare also!
I love these pants. Thanks to the other reviews. I'm 5'6" and ordered the long and they were great. I did get one size larger than I normally take. The only bummer is that there is not a zipper at the ankles. So, if you zip off the bottoms you have to take off your shoes.
I like these pants. They've worked well for me, and they are more flattering than other hiking pants I've seen. The only thing I wish they had was the option of a 32" inseam rather than just the regular (31") and the long (33").
I live in a national park, so I have been searching for a good looking pair of convertible pants for a long time. Why do so many of these pants look dorky? These are by far the best and most flattering I have ever tried on. Even the shorts are cute. The pants do run a little short in the inseam, however. I am not really tall (5'6"), and I needed the long inseam.
I have bought several pairs of outdoor pants and have been unhappy with all of them until I found these. I love the cut and fit and they are very comfortable and breathable. The lower cut is very flattering to the petite figure. I do agree with earlier reviews that if you are a petite gal you will love these pants. I am 52 and usually like a 30-inch length. These fit perfect for me in the length. Very satisfied customer!
Like many of the other reviewers, I have been on the eternal search for a comfortable, yet "fashionable" pair of hiking pants. So when I saw all the positive reviews, I decided to purchase The North Face paramount convertible pants. And yes, in comparison to other hiking pants, these pants are somewhat flattering. Unlike my other hiking pants, they don't balloon out and look like parachuting pants. They don't have tapered legs (ugh! I hate that!). They are low-riding, so they fit more like my jeans. What I like the most about them is that they come in a "Long" length! Finally, a pair of hiking pants that actually go OVER my boot! I was disappointed in the sizing when I first received them. I had to order a size 14, which is a size or two larger than I would wear in other pants (both hiking and regular jeans). I am of athletic build (5'7'', 155 lbs). So women of larger girth may have trouble fitting into these. Plus, these pants did give me a rash on my legs when I first wore them, just like any other close-fitting synthetic pant I wear. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a quick-drying material that DOESN'T chafe. So far, these are my favorite hiking pants. I'm still on the lookout for the IDEAL hiking pant, but for now these will suffice.
These are the best fitting convertible pants I've found to date. I'm am 5'9" and the talls are long enough. I went with the tip from someone else that they went one size up and they fit well, although I may have been ok with my regular size. I was worried about the length, but it is perfect. I also like that they go to shorts and Capris.
Most of the convertible pants you see on safari look like rain suit pants..... not something you would even wear to lunch in the bush. These fit well and held up well to long hours riding in a Range Rover in the Serengeti.
These pants are sized a little small...but they are great! They are lightweight and easily convertible into shorts that are about mid-thigh. These pants sit lower on the waist (which I LOVE - most of these types of pants are too high waisted) and they are not as tapered a most pants of this type. I HIGHLY recommend these pants! I bought two pairs and they are great!
The only reason I ordered these pants, is because The North Face was kind enough to offer them in tall sizes. I have a 34" inseam, and these just make the grade with hiking shoes. Luckily, they also fit well in other ways, are sturdy, comfortable, and functional. I can't compare them to any other convertible pants because nobody else makes them long enough. If you are a tall girl, buy these! You won't be settling for inferior quality for a change.
Based on the reviews here, I ordered one size bigger and it was too big for me. I wear size 8 and ordered size 10. I like the style and fit; it's more stylish with a lower waist. I ordered a normal size and had to hem up the legs, but that's the usual with me. I'm 5'5" with a long torso.
I bought these pants for a trip to Costa Rica because they are lightweight and fast drying. I've had them for two years now and they still look excellent! I am a wildlife technician and frequently wear these during the summer months. They haven't torn or frayed and they still look and feel great. Another bonus is that these pants actually fit me! I am 5'1" and often have a hard time finding qualitly women's gear or even any gear that fits well. The short length available in these pants fits great! I'd happily recommend these pants and am even thinking about buying a few more pairs. Enjoy!
These are my second pair of these pants. They fit me wonderfully, which is rare! They are fitted thru the hips and on the short side which is good for me too. I wear them every January when we travel from western NC (cold) to Central America for vacation. It's a perfect transition!
I love these pants. The low rise makes them more fashionable than most. I'm 5'11", and I was so happy to find them in tall. I did have to order a size larger, so I would say they run small.
Hands down, best choice in a convertible pant if you don't want to look like a tank. Do run a bit small and definitely short. I'm 5'9" and bought the 'tall' which are just barely long enough. Order 1 size up from your usual jean size.
The pants are fine but they didn't fit me great and they do run a bit short and the rise was longer than I like. These may be lower rise but they are not low-rise and I have yet to find convertible pants that are.
Excellent for any outdoors activities but stylish as well, a little loose in fit so not as sleek as I hoped. Definitely pants you reach for to through something comfortable but also nice looking on either winter or summer.
I saw a few reviews that these pants aren't a good choice for someone tall. I am 5'7" but have short legs. These pants actually fit me better than any other convertible pant I've ever tried on. They are comfortable and good looking. I've worn them out during the week for dinner and I've worn them hiking in the Shenandoah Mountains. I especially like the drawstring inside because it helps the pants fit my waist better than a lot of other pants as well. In general, great set of pants!
I really like my The North Face Hiking pants. It' hard to find pants to fit and very important to be comfortable. They could zipper a little bit higher up....an inch or two perhaps, but all and all, I love them!
I ordered two pair of these pants in different colors. I am tall and was very excited about the 33 inch inseam. One of the two pairs was perfect and I love them but, unfortunately, the other pair (same size) were shorter and didn't fit as well.
I love these pants. Aside from their functionality, they were the most flattering convertible pants I tried on. I always felt like MC Hammer (I know, dating myself) with other pants on. These are cute, flattering, and durable. I fit in a size 8. I am a size 6 in JCrew and Banana Republic, but before everyone changed their sizes to make everyone feel skinnier, I was a size 8 at those stores. My body didnt change--their sizes did! Like all zip-off pants, you can feel the constriction where the zipper is, but not to a point that is uncomfortable. The ability to roll up the bottoms of the legs is great too, especially when hiking through mud. I also like the Cargo Green color, as they are more like a deep khaki. I highly recommend these!
Well, my mom got these for a backpacking trip and although she wore them quite a bit before we went, she didn't experience a critical flaw. She really liked the pants, and loved the convertible factor. She really liked them as shorts and found that they fit great for hiking. She wore them on a day hike of 16 miles and found that they worked great other than the back pocket opening when she bent over. But when she put a pack on for three days, the belt loops in the back rubbed on her back really bad. She had a huge bruise and was in a quite a bit of pain every time she put her pack on and it sat on the belt loop seam. Beware of belt loops in general on backpacking pants. For hikes she will still use these but not for any extending backpacking trip with weight. She is also pretty short and found that the length was great for her, she got regular and stayed true to size.
These pants have plenty of room for leg movement without looking sloppy. The waistband is cut wide and sits below the waist for a comfortable and more stylish fit. The drawstring in the waist allow you to cinch up or loosen the waist as needed. The shorts are just the right length, falling just above mid-thigh. Overall, I have found these pants to be great for hiking or just running to the grocery store. I plan to take them to Africa with me this winter.
Just got my PPC's in the mail today--they look pretty sweet--very stylish both as pants or shorts. As for the size, they fit perfectly. There's a but of conflicting info in the reviews about sizing which kinda had me worried. I tossed and turned about ordering a size up, but in the end I consulted this sizing chart which yielded good results: http://www.thenorthface.com/na/sizing-OUW.html
As a few reviewers have pointed out, the problem isn't so much these pants running small, but other retailers (esp lower end like Gap) artificially lowering sizes to make us feel better and shop more!
I took these pants on a whale watching trip to Baja where we were out in the sea twice a day in little boats. Although I got wet from whale spray, and more...
