Bought two pair of these and expected a lot more. Wore on pair three times on the AT and the snap pulled loose from the fabric.... then the the zipper failed and the pull fell off the zipper! The crotch seam splayed on the other pair and the leg zipper failed also. But ran out of tp and the leg bottom worked well for wipe but still prefer charmin!

I have large legs should I buy a size larger so they are not too tight?

If you would like However they are already a loose/relaxed fitting pant so they should fit you just fine.

I bought three pairs of these pants and have nothing but good things to say about them. There quite comfortable for just hanging out or when hiking and climbing. The pant legs are easy to take on and off if needed. I have even ripped them, and the material has stopped the tear in it's tracks. Overall i would recommend these pants to others.

These pants were very comfortable, where similar pants from other manufacturers hadn't fit me so well. But then 4 out of the 5 pairs that I ordered had a seam that started to fail. Same spot on all 4 pairs of pants.
Additionally, the pockets are very odd on these pants (though I was willing to overlook it).
Luckily, this site allowed me to return these pants. Because of this experience, I'll probably never buy another The North Face product . . . but I'll definitely shop at this site again.
My favorite

I am 6'4" and the Long fit great. I like having the option to convert to shorts during a hike, but I normally don't. The shorts are a little shorter than my style, but aren't too short for the trail. Great fabric and they pack light. I have two pairs and really enjoy them.

I got these pants to hike in the wet NW weather. Good pants that repel water and mud as well as tough against grabbing Oregon grape! I bought the "long" size and should have bought just the regular size - just a bit too long. I still bought another pair a couple weeks later though!!!
Not great for the long trips

The Paramount Convertible Pant is good for everyday wear. North Face is one of the only companies that carry a selection of dark colors for convertible pants in long sizes. Dark colors dont show the dirt that you are exposed to on extended hikes. I was hoping for a good sturdy pant for the Pacific Trail but I found that these pants will not hold for the long haul. I wore them on one weekend trip and the threads in the seat were worn. A reinforced seat would make the Paramount Convertible pant the perfect hiking pant.
I dont recommend these pants for an extended expedition.
great pants but need to go long

Great pants, durable and dry quickly. I had to search a bit for the long version though. The regular length was a little too short. With the legs zipped off the shorts only came down to mid thigh, it looked like an ABA game was going down
Not Perfect but Best I've Found

I really like these pants enough that I bought a second pair. Wish they had real belt loops. The front cargo pockets ride above the deep regular pockets and I'd rather have them on the side. Finally, these pants run a bit long (luckily mine shrank to fit with the first washing.) All that said, I'm an outdoor photographer and have worn these all over the world in all temp ranges. They are exceedingly comfortable, dry quickly and are the toughest nylon pants I've used. So, not perfect but I've tried a lot of multipurpose pants and haven't found any better.

These pants are great... Super comfortable, nice big pockets and zippers work great all the time. The shorts are a little short for my liking, but that's the way they should be. Overall Awesome pants.

I've had quite a few pair, and these are the best. Great fit, true sizing, good length (think hiking shorts), very smart pocket layout. This is the best of TNF's lineup and the best of the entire category.

These pants are great! They are lightweight and feel a little loose, perfect for scrambling around on and off the trail. With all the pockets, I love them for work pants so I can keep small tools and my flashlight on me at all times. The fabric seems to be very resistant to wind and dry very fast. Since I started wearing Paramount convertible pants, I hardly ever wear blue jeans any more!
Review after a two week trip.

Excellent pants. Easy to pack and keep neat and clean. I used them for a motorcycle trip where space is limited and gear must be versatile. They were great in the mountains, on the beach, lounging in my hotel, and at fancy restaurants. What more could you want? Oh, I started with the long length and had to return them, the regular length is just right. I am 6' tall.
Good for camp, not so good for hiking.

I always have these in my pack for chillin' in camp, but they don't work well for me on the trail. The legs are too tight causing my calves to rub on the material and limiting the stride I can take. Still love em for chilling, just prefer a baggier fit for a long day on trail.
Awesome pants

I love these pants. The Meridians were a little too thin for cooler days. The Paramount pants are just right. Shorts seemed a little short. The zipper at the bottom is great for taking the pant legs off without taking your boots off. Wish it had more belt loops and not the little built in belt it has. Other than that they are great.

Although these are men's hiking pants/shorts, the small/regular are a perfect and flattering fit for my 5'4 & 125lb female frame. The first pair I purchased 5 years ago are still in excellent condition. Preparing for our upcoming hike to Glacier NP, I was excited about finding the same item and glad that North Face has not changed one thing about these perfect convertible pants.

Had to send it back. I ordered it for my dad who is 6 foot 4 inches. The talls were not long enough.
Great choice

As is with almost all of North Face's merchandise, this pants are great. Very comfortable for long walks and extremely versatile while boulder climbing. The conversion process is done in a flinch so you can do it even if you midway up the mountain.
Great Pants.

The fabric is thick enough to be well used outdoors and i find them very comfortable. I bought both colors I liked it so much.
I have long legs and the regular length is a bit long. so I can't imagine who needs a long.
