Sliding into The North Face Women’s Oso Hooded Fleece Jacket feels like falling into a vat of warm marshmallow pudding. The North Face lined the Oso with silken fleece, a fabric that has bunnies all over the world jealous.
Standard fit for use as an inner layer or an outer layer
Attached hood for greater chilly weather comfort
Hem cinch-cord keeps the chill out
Bottom Line: More comfortable and practical than a jacket made of live bunnies and pudding.
I have a black one, and I have been wearing it for over a year; I haven't experienced any shedding whatsoever! I love how comfortable and soft it is, and the silky (shiny) look makes it feel like you're a bit more "fancy" than wearing a plain old fleece. ;)
Well, part of that is that fleece just breaks down, and there's nothing you can do about it. However, the other part is that it's dirty, and when you wash it with regular detergent, it leaves chemicals in the fabric that aren't good for it. Try using Nikwax Techwash or something comparable, it should make it a big smoother.

I was very excited with how soft it was initially. I dont know if i missed something crucial in washing instructions but it pilled up horribly. Its still warm but not as cozy and soft as it was. Im glad I didnt pay full price for it or I would be very upset at how it washed. Its very warm, Its 30 degrees in michigan and I wore it into work this am with just a slight chill, I try to avoid big bulky coats untill its near zero!
I get petted by a million people a day when I wear this. It is a really attractive cut and I always get tons of comments on it! Just for sizing, I am 5'10", 140 lbs and I got a medium.
I have this jacket in black and I've had it for about 4 months now. My jacket is starting to shed and it's getting on everything. What should I do to stop it?
Hi Logan, If you have the option, I would return the garment as "defective." No reason you should be stuck with a North Face product whose insulation is leaking. As an alternative there is a product that is a tape that seals a down garment if there is a rip or leak. Try to google "tape to seal tear in down parka." Hope this helps. Jeffrey Jay Levin

Its soo comfortable, soft, and really warm. its much better than a typical denali that everyone wears. I am 5'7 and i ordered a small and it fits perfect.
This is the best fleece I've ever owned (including Marmot and Colombia). The fleece is incredibly warm, and somewhat water resistant, though I wouldn't take it in place of a windbreaker or rain shell. It blocks the wind pretty well for a fleece, believe me, I live in Wyoming!
I ADORE the yellow color, it makes me feel happy and sunny in the October-April Wyoming winter.
The sleeves are long enough for me, which I've had a problem with in the past. The hood is very cozy, although I wish it had a drawstring so I could keep it on my head in the wind. The pockets are easy to stick your hands in and have a zipper to keep your keys from falling out.
I haven't washed it yet, but so far I haven't had any trouble with shedding, even when I wear a black cardigan underneath my fleece.
This is the softest fleece you have ever touched! I would compare it with the Mountain Hardwear Monkey woman fleece, but I loved this color better than any of the MH ones. And the fact that it has a hood.
Hey Alyssa, yes it does come in more colors. This particular jacket is on sale because it is last seasons model, that is why the sizes and colors are so limited. But don't worry, TNF has updated this jacket and it is available in a small white. http://www.backcountry.com/the-north-face-oso-hooded-fleece-jacket-womens
Great coat. Bought it for my wife she loves it. She said the sleeves are a little tight and the coat is so warm that she can't wear it inside unless she doesn't wear much underneath it. Which is cool. Can't go wrong with TNF.
Teachers at my child's school are concerned that students will not be warm enough at recess. They aren't permitted to wear North Face jackets out to recess. Seriously? Today's low is 49 and tomorrow's low is 43. My child wears a hat and gloves. Last year she added a vest on REALLY cold days. I thought people typically wore these in colder temperatures than most jackets. My child IS warm enough.
This jacket is ever sooo soft. I catch myself petting the sleeve. I havent had a problem with it shedding as other reviews have said. Also as other reviews said, it does fit a bit snug though not enought to return it for a larger size. I usually take a large in the North Face so I ordered a large. Its not too small, just snug & doesnt leave a lot of room for layering underneath. Somehow the sleeves arent as long as they usually are in The North Face coats /jackets. Im 5'9" so that is one reason I buy North Face for a good sleeve & torso fit. The blue color I got is wonderful. The fact that it can be cinched at the waist & has a hood are bonuses too. All in all a pretty good jacket!!
I absolutely love this jacket/coat! I just got it in black, I have other North Face coats but this is def one of my favs. It is so incredibly soft and warm. Fits a little snug, but not enough that I want to return it. I am 5'2 and 120 pounds and got the small. I feel like the medium will probably be too big...But if you plan on wearing any type of layers underneath I would suggest a size bigger! Overall a very stylish and cute jacket!
The North Face actually does not temp-rate their jackets, as there are far too many variables from person to person. ie: what is layered with it; what body-warming accessories are worn-hat, scarf, mittens, etc; level of physical activity, duration of exposure to elements; wearer's own body chemistry; etc. I find a good way to determine how warm a jacket will be is 1) customer reviews, and 2) comparing the overall weights of similar jackets.
Please help.. I want to order one of these for my daughter and not sure whether to get the XS or S. She's 11. 5 ft tall and 85lbs. Tall and skinny. I'd think to get an XS but she tends to outgrow stuff pretty quick in regard to the arm length.
She is the exact same size as my daughter. I just bought her a XS for Christmas thinking that was the same size I have (I'm 5'2", 110#) for myself. Well I should have checked first, it's a small. The XS fits me perfectly, but only because I'm done growing. I'm going to order my daughter a S due to the arm length. It will be a little wide for my girl, but it's winter wear. Room for a sweatshirt or sweater. Hope this helps :/
no..its not accurate..but a very pertty color anyway. I ordered it, and took the chance...but it looks more like the octopus blue in this pic than the actual color...its more of a teal green, than a blue..this pic of it is the actual color http://www.google.com/imgres?q=fissure+green+north+face&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1346&bih=631&tbm=isch&tbnid=HT3rHju0Cl_GyM:&imgrefurl=http://buy-womens-party-dresses.tk/the-north-face-womens-nuptse-jackets-fissure-green-medium-afye&docid=WqLt_GxFamSwfM&imgurl=http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41DUU-RbVtL.jpg&w=360&h=360&ei=C0-zTsf-B6fy0gGe5Om-BA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=348&vpy=337&dur=371&hovh=140&hovw=140&tx=101&ty=53&sig=109707226540386995143&page=2&tbnh=126&tbnw=126&start=23&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:23
Yeah i was wondering too! i looked online and i think the octopus blue was lighter, but i was worried if i got this when it came in person it would be more green than in the picture
Id really like to know that myself too..i googled "northface fissure green" and all of the images look really nice, and more of a blueish..yet its so close to the surrent color "octopus blue" makes me wonder if they would make a color so close to it..or if it looks totally different when u actually look at it
forgot to mention in my review that they do shed but only when new and unwashed...just need to wash it a couple of times and the shedding problem will be gone...It's a very soft warm jacket..get one!!
I have one and just bought one for my mom...we are always so cold...these are worth every penny...forget layers with this one all I need is a tank top underneath and I'm toasty warm...they aren't water proof but that doesn't matter, they still help you retain heat even when wet...the oso is also oh so soft...only downfall is they tend to run a bit smaller in width than my other north face jackets..not a big deal because you really don't need to layer under it but it runs a bit shorter in the sleeve and waist length too..I would suggest you order up a size if you like your jackets loose or if you are tall. I'm 5'5 and the medium hits me right at my wrist bone...the waist almost touches the top my low rise jeans..not a long jacket in my normal size but VERY warm and comfy....worth it!!
I am 5'5 about 140 lbs...I own a North Face oso without a hood and its a size medium and is a little baggy and long in the torso and arms. Does anyone know if the hoodies are a little different in sizing. Just not sure what size to order.
I'm here looking for a replacement for my brown Oso my husband bought me 3 years ago (2008). I have worn it to death. I met it in REI and fell in love, and even though brown was not a color I ever wore before, that jacket has spent at least 200 days a year keeping me warm since then.
Yes, it did shed something awful for the first year--my seat belt was always fuzzy. The second year, not so bad. Now that it is wearing out, it doesn't shed noticeably anymore. It would be nice if the next one I buy doesn't have that problem, but I'm not sure how people's shirts were "ruined" by the shedding--it brushes and washes right off.
This jacket is not only the softest but also the warmest fleece I've ever worn, and I've had a few. I live in the mountains where we have wintry weather November through mid-April, and I have trouble staying warm. But the Oso does the job and makes me never want to take it off. It's also the best-looking fleece I've ever had--something about those shoulder panels, I think. The hood is great for added warmth and the pockets are comfy.
My 2007-8 model is a small, my usual size, and hits me at high hip--I've never thought it was too short although many of my shirts worn underneath are longer. (I'm 5'5", 130, usually wear a 6). It is not particularly fitted but I wouldn't describe it as baggy either--just right for a second layer. I've worn fitted fleece pullovers underneath but that was a bit snug. My size small North Face soft shell jacket fits fine over the top.
Bottom line: if you're looking for a warm, soft, cozy, attractive fleece jacket, you can't do better. The only downside is the shedding, and perhaps that is no longer an issue with the newer models. I will update on fit and shedding when I get my new one.
Bought this for my daughter who wears size 6-8. The size small is a roomy fit--very comfortable. Great color too! Hood is a bonus. She wore this to DC in early March for a class trip where it did little to protect from wind, but otherwise was all she needed plus her umbrella. Highly recommend this!
I got a size S for my daughter, it looks kind of short, i am considering to exchange the fleece for a M. I wonder if the size M increases only in length and how much. The size Small, Center Back Lenght is 22.5 in. Thanks
I opened up package, and gave this Oso Hoodie jacket in Black to my 14 yr. old daughter. She loved it!!! She said it felt like rabitt hair softness, of course without the aggravation! I odered her a Medium and she is a Junior size 3, very thin and 5'7". It fit perfect! I noticed the reviews ppl saying it ran small. It does! It fits just like a Junior size fit! Iam glad i didn't mess up and order her a small, which I thought originally she would need. An xs and small would be for someone short and petite and very thin! This jacket to me looksbetter than the north face Denali, which alot of her friends have, and it costs more. This is way more youthful looking. Her friends will be jealous! I am tired of seeing ppl wear the Denali. It looks like for older ppl. This Oso Hoodie looks way better, even for me! It is very good quality and thickness and plushness! Im getting one next! Just order one size up for sure without a doubt!
We own 3 and have helped sell at least 3 more of these jackets! It first started when my middle daughter asked for this jacket for her 16th birthday in October. It was so soft, my oldest daughter wanted one for her 18th birthday a month later. For Christmas, my youngest daughter wanted one. Two of my daughters friends saw/felt the softness of it and they bought it too. The jacket is incredible! I would highly recommend it -- they are so comfortable, my girls hate to take them off -- they even wear them in the house!! As a parent, my major problem previously was that my daughters hated wearing jackets/coats -- now, we can't get them to take them off! I'm actually thinking of buying stock in this company :)
I got it for my gf, she loves it. A lot of these reviews say that the material comes off on the clothes it touches, but so far that hasnt happened at all, and its been like a month. Im not sure if it takes, or it is just a defect in some jackets, but this one is great! i just wanted to show some hope for those who were super nervous bout that like i was haha
I absolutely love this jacket!!! No shedding!!! Haven't washed it yet, but will soon. It hasn't been above freezing for 3 days here & I still can wear a tshirt under this jacket and stay warm! It's AMAZING!!!
im 5'6" 130 lbs...i have a small windwall 2 that fits perfect. would i drown in a medium oso? some people say buy a size up..i'm not a fan of short jackets, but i also dont want it to be baggy everywhere else.. i would liike to be able to fit a thin hoodie underneath. would a small suffice?
i bought this jacket for my wife for her birthday a couple of weeks ago, and she absolutely loves it. i was going to get her the Khumbu jacket, but she loves all things soft, fuzzy, and warm, and this jacket is exactly that. It looks good as well, and she says she gets pet several times a day by friends and random strangers.
It's still pretty new so not sure how long the soft fuzz will last after washing, but I'm hoping it's up to typical North Face standards. So far, great purchase!
I am 5'2 and weights 125 pounds. I like a nice fitted jacket but not too tight. I plan on wearing a tshirt or sweater inside this jacket. sld i get a small or a medium. Evryone seems to suggest a larger size but i dont want to risk getting a medium and drown in it. thanks!
1- If you do own other North Face jackets in size S, and of a standard fit (eg. Khumbu, Denali) what is the 'roominess' feel of an S for you? For me, an S can definitely take a t-shirt, a long sleeved fitted light-wool turtleneck. For a sweater, it was tight at the sleeves, and not comfy for extended wear.
2. If, however, this is your first North Face jacket, and you don't want too big a look (or don't want to 'drown' in an M), stick to fitted inner layers. For example, hoodies and loose-fit sweater types will run the problem of the tight sleeves (especially at the armpits), but you can wear comfortably with fitted inner layers like next-to-skin type of baselayers. Getting a woolen (Icebreaker brand or Patagonia Capilene series) next-to-skin kinds of baselayers or tees will definitely give you the warmth factor AND allow you to put on the Oso without the tightness.
3. Most importantly, your wearing preference - some people like a good fit being defined as loose-baggy fit, while some people like a more "closely-fitted / slightly tight but not like compression-type gear" definition. My preference is the latter, so do take the above comments in this perspective.
Oh the other point is that this is a short-length jacket (at 24.5 inch centre-back length).
Hi BMC this will layer very well under any shell but does not zip in, the osito jacket has as similar fleece fabric but no hood and it is zip in compatible.
I have the white one and love it. It's very warm and looks nicer than a regular fleece. I haven't experienced any shedding and it still looks nice after wearing it for two months. The size I ordered is normally the size I would wear and it fits perfectly. I can fit a sweatshirt underneath it if I want to, either way it's not bulky. I would definitely recommend purchasing one from back country because it's the cheapest place I found them.
I got it in Shoreline Blue for my 17 y.o. daughter and she loves it. It is not too bright (at 17 the last thing they want to do is stand out ;-). I've not seen the pink in person so I can't comment on that. The Backcountry.com price is the best I've ever found for it as well. Hope this helps!
I ordered this jacket for my (17 y.o.) daughter. We had been shopping around for months and couldn't believe when we saw it here at such a great price. We received it quickly! It seems to run a bit larger than the other North Face jacket she has so we had to exchange it. Backcountry even made exchanging it easier by promptly sending out the replacement jacket and notifying me by email every step of the way (e.g. they let me know when the new item shipped, when they received the jacket I returned, etc.). Backcountry is a pleasure to deal with! Would definitely order from them again!
I just received this North Face Oso jacket in the mail today. It is a great jacket. It is so soft and warm. It does run a little smaller so I'm glad I ordered a size up thanks to others opinions on here. I am thrilled at the look and feel of the jacket and not to mention I got a killer price on it @ backcountry.com. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a lighter weight, but warm coat. I ordered it in white and it will look great with everything. Thanks a million.
I ordered a ladies small and it was short, other than that it is a great jacket. I am thinking about returning it and ordering a medium. Did you find the jacket to be the right length?
This jacket ruined a couple of my shirts from shedding, so I exchanged it for another thinking maybe mine was defective, but I had the same problem. Even with washing, the material falls off and sticks to everything. Besides that, it's a really cute jacket and unbelievably soft, but I ended up returning it for a similar jacket by mountain hardwear.
I own 5 Large women's Denali. I recently ordered the OSO in Large. They run more CROPPED then the Denali. No room for layering and not long enough to cover my back when I wear low-rise jeans. Super cute and soft. No problems w/shedding. Receive compliments whenever I wear it.
Not only is this the softest fleece jacket I have ever found, but it is attractive and true to size in my opinion. Each time I wear it someone admires it.
I could not give it 5 stars because it does shed a lot, unlike other high quality fleece I own. In particular, my seatbelt grabs fuzz and then later applies it to blouses that I never wore at the same time as the jacket! I like the jacket so much I plan to keep it, not wear it while driving, and HOPE that the shedding stops completely over time. So far a couple of washings has not reduced the shedding problem...
I think that a fleece jacket that costs as much as this one should be perfect, though.
This was the cheapest website I found price wise, quality definitely wasn't cheap. I know people have said that it sheds and what not but I haven't had a problem with it yet. I've been wearing my hoodie for a couple months now and its held up just fine, plus it's extremely warm! Perfect for the winter and lounging around. Definitely worth buying!!!
I just wanted to say to make sure you order One size up! My daughter took a Medium and she is only 115 lbs. junior size 3, 5'7". It's perfect now. Some other north faces like the denali run way bigger, but this one runs very small.
It's a great jacket. It has good breathability but steps up when it is cold. It's a good find. I bought the light blue and it goes well with everything. The light blue is truly a powder blue.
Easy ordering on line-very prompt shipping-product perfect - just did not fit. Called Customer Service - very helpful-very pleasant - did as he suggested -ordered/paid for a second jacket - again - same as above - Grand-daughter VERY happy - however - the jacket that did not fit was returned - with all order info - the customer service Rep -said he put a note in my file - but the $$ has NOT been put back on my card. I live in Calif, - my Grand-daughter lives in Wash. State - so .... size could be a problem in the future - is there another way this should have been handled? I am on a limited income - so advise is requested before I order again - Thanks
I'm a little tore between this coat or the same coat only in girls. I was told the ladies is going to be alot softer by far. Do anyone have a suggestion for me?! Also, I'm about 5'3" weigh about 105 do you think the womens size xs would fit? Thank you!
You should definately get a women's because they are more fitted. But i'm not sure what size because I got a small and I may be returning it for a medium because it was sort of short. I am about your same size.
I have the white jacket and it is so pretty and soft, I love it, I do wish I had gotten a darker color because I am so afraid of getting this one dirty. It has not shed or anything, and it is a little dressier than a regular fleece jacket. I will probably purchase another one in the future. It does run smaller than most jackets so I would get a size up than you normally wear.
OMG! I just received this jacket & I love it!!! It is so soft and fuzzy....feels like a baby's butt LOL!! At first when I ordered the large I was a bit skeptical since some reviews said to order 1 size up, but for me the large fits great!! Also shipping from Backcountry was very fast, only took 3-4 days for me to get it; Way to go Backcountry... Will definitely buy from again soon!!!!
I read all the reviews here and they all made the jacket sound wonderful. I decided to get it for my sister. I ordered her one in a size small and when I received it, it barely went down past her belly button. After looking around in stores to compare sizes, the medium and large are equally as short. I would not order this jacket unless you get it one size up and you are under 5'2''. Plus it sheds. Don't waste your money.
I bought two jackets, one for my daughter and one for myself. We both love um. They are so warm and cozy. I have a hard time not wearing mine everyday! We have not experienced any problems with shedding. The fit is true to size. I usually order and XS in clothing. After the comments I read I was a little sceptical if it would be to small, but It fit just great.
So one person on here wrote in a review that they hadn't recieved their jacket. Does that happen a lot? I had never heard of backcountry so I don't know if they are reliable...
I've very good expereince with them. They always ship asap and return is easy. I talked to them via internet and they sent me UPS bar-coded label that only thing I needed to do is to drop off in UPS store. I highly recommend Backcountry.
Great Jacket - lightweight but still warm enough for freezing NJ! Fits nicely over hooded sweatshirts (I bought 2 sizes up to wear it over them and still have enough arm room). Love the white - doesnt shed at all! Its the best!
i would also suggest a small. i am 5'6 and weigh 128 and the small fit me, but the med. was an inch or so longer in the sleeves so i went with the med.
I just bought the orchid purple one for 2009 xmas. It does not shed at all. I was worried about shedding after reading the reviews but ordered it anyway. Love it.
Picked this jacket out for myself for Christmas. Couldn't wait to wear it. Very warm, no shedding. Washes great. Would buy again. Love this site with all the reviews and very fast shipping. Have brought multi times from this site since Sept 2009.
I have had this jacket for a month now. I wash it weekly and it still looks like new. I have not had any trouble with shedding. It keeps you warm in cold weather but is not too hot in mild weather. It is very comfortable. I LOVE it!
Bought this for my daughter. She has received tons of compliments. A great warm jacket, very stylish and she loves the hood. The shedding is not an issue. I bought one for myself and wear it all the time. The fit is a little on the short side with the jacket ending at the hips.
I love this coat! It is so warm! It looks great with everything! You can dress it up or down! I normally wear a med. I went large since I am expecting. Glad I did will have room for the baby bump. Its not to big in arms and or shoulders! Fits perfect!
I love this jacket, but ended up returning it because now I know why El Rio Blue is a discontinued color! It's very turquoise and just not what I was looking for.
Machine wash cold, by itself, with only a little bit of detergent (or a technical fabric detergent like NikWax). And do NOT throw it in the dryer. Fleece dries fast anyways so you don't need it.
This jacket feels just like a rabbit, it's wonderful; however, the fleece rubbed off on all my shirts and ruined quite a few. I exchanged it for a second and the same thing happened, even after washing.
It's flattering which is hard to find in warm women's clothing. It's warmer than I had expected, too. The materials are all very high quality and feel as nice as they look! The only problem I've had is that the stitches in one of the arm cuffs started to come undone after I wore it a few times... not uncommon with these style cuffs. I haven't had any shedding problems like other people spoke of. I can't wait for some colder weather so I can get more use out of it!
Love it. Its warm and very soft. No shedding problem yet. Thought it felt a little snug in the hips, like I can't wear something bulky underneath if I want to zipper it up. But perhaps I like a looser feel. Like having a warm jacket without all the bulk.
i sent back on of the jackets because it was to small. I filled out the infomation to exchange for a bigger size. How long does it usually takeThanksjudy wingham
Give bc.com a call and they'll go ahead and send you the correct size. Many times you will receive your replacement before your return gets back to Utah.
I bought this jacket for my daughter for Christmas and it is even better than I expected!! It is a GORGEOUS jacket, so soft, warm, cozy and fits perfectly!!! She LOVES it. She wears it inside, outside, and even slept in it the first night!!! We live in the Chicago area, and it has been COLD...! This jacket is ideal because if the temps are less than about 30 degrees, she can wear it under another ski jacket, as an extra snuggly layer, or if it's 30 degrees or more, she can wear it by itself.
im a junior and im wanting a OSO fleece jacket but im skared that if i get a large in kids that it wont fit and if i get a small or medium in womans it will be too big. my friend has a L/M in kids but shes a bit thinner than me what size should i get?
The hoody is very soft and warm. I have ordered several things from Backcountry.com and have always had very fast service and received it in excellent condition.
I have a black one, and I have been wearing it for over a year; I haven't experienced any shedding whatsoever! I love how comfortable and soft it more...
