Is this jacket wind resistant? Going on a safari in Africa. They say to be sure to bring a fleece jacket that will keep us warm on early morning game drives in open-air vehicles (chilly mornings--50s--with wind).

Haha...please remember that you asked this question to a lot of dedicated "gearheads"and take my input on it for how you want to apply it to your selection.
If blocking wind and thermal insulation are what you're mainly looking for, you likely want an insulated piece with Gore- Windstopper or some sort of similar outer membrane. Lots of choices from North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Arcteryx... I'm not going to pick on anybody in particular, but just plain fleece doesn't do much of squat when it comes to blocking wind. It works best as an isulative layer with a multi-component layering system...or...those still, cool nights. I don't think it matters whose it is, blocking wind just isn't part of what fleece does, for the most part. For example: This piece that you're looking at is 100 weight, I have a North Face Denali that's 300 weight, and when it's windy, and I wear it alone, it cuts right through and I'm always cold. But, I throw a Windstopper, and maybe a shell over that and it's one of the warmest pieces I own. However, I also have insulated/wind resistant/proof jackets that cost me a bit more, but it's all the things coming together in my favor...all in one jacket...life gets easier.
I have no idea how fast they'll be driving, but low 50s and the wind chill from it probably drops you into the 40-ish range. Not only would a specifically warm and windproof jacket be a better choice now, it'll be a great piece of useful gear for about as long as you own it...an investment. Lot's to choose from, and if you have any questions about anything you see, there's always someone that's willing to do their best to help you out.
And, I hope this helped you out, too.

I second Phil's notion.
Wind goes right through standard fleeces. It sounds like you'd be better served by a softshell acket. Most softshells are uninsulated, but some manufacturers make insulated ones.
I have a softshell that has a fleece lining, and worn alone, it's warm down to the mid 40's F. I won't mention the brand, since it's the house brand of another outdoor outfitter. You should be able to find something similar here at Backcountry.

I'm back for another Oso Hooded Fleece Jacket for me and 1 for my 10 year old granddaughter's birthday. She loved the silver metallic I bought in February 2013.
Great jacket!

I loved the jacket, very nice, soft, warm material but I am 5'11 with looong arms. I ordered a large and the sleeves were way too short :( ended up giving it to my mama, she's 5'8 and she loves it.
VERY Warm

I love the jacket. It is much warmer than I expected, but that's not a problem. The sleeves are fairly tailored so I can't wear really thick sweaters under it. Extremely soft.
Soft Enough to Pet!

I compared this style to the Osito jacket, which is similar but without the hood. I felt this one was a bit heavier and I like the smooth, waterproof fabric covering the shoulders and hood. It really does repel rain and snow. The only detail missing is a way to cinch the hood, as it wouldn't stay on my head in the wind. Overall, a good purchase for the sale price.
This coat is awesome

Warm and light weight. Fuzzy on inside. I wear instead of any sweatshirt I have.
Only thing I would change is I would add a draw string to to hood. Sometimes in wind it falls down.
The most outstanding Customer Service!!!!

I love this jacket, and I love it so much more than I thought I would. I also have the Denali jacket, but I love this one more. Had I ordered this first, I would not have ordered the Denali. I end up wearing this most of the time. It's not as warm at the Denali, but it is adequate for the weather in Cincinnati most of the time, as it isn't very cold here (being from Michigan). The coldest I have worn this is a "sunny" 30 degree day with a light breeze. As a warmer 30 degree day, I was very comfortable and it would have been fine a little bit colder, but not too much colder. I am usually in between medium and large in sports brands, and I went with a large in this. I have a medium in the Denali. This was looser than I expected it to be based on other reviews, but I am glad I went with the large. I think the medium would have been a bit tight, and I have plenty of room to layer as much as I want. I ordered the Kodiak blue and love the color. It's a dark blue that isn't too bright, which I prefer. It looks nice and won't show stains.

Rather more of a hoodie than a jacket. Great for fall and warm winter days (30s/40s F). I ordered a medium in black and it fits perfectly (neither snug, nor loose). I can fit another light hoodie under it. Soft, light, and warm. Simple.
warm and stylish

This jacket is so warm and comfortable..
I have a Delani jacket also and prefer this one over it! Fabric is very soft and I haven't had problem with mine shedding on clothing like others have stated. So glad I purchased this!!!
