North Face Oso

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I do really love this jacket. Not only is it warm, I get several compliments on it. The last North Face Fleece I had was a medium, which fit fine but was a little more snug that I would have liked. This one I ordered a large and it's almost too big. But, I think that's me more than the jacket itself, I still love it.

North Face Oso FleeceJacket Women's

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
  • Fit: Runs small

I purchased this jacket for my daughter for Christmas. As we live in a very cold climate I thought it was a great choice. I ordered it in black in large as she is tall. It was too small and I had to exchange it for a xl. The exchange was flawless. She loves this jacket and even with our below zero weather, she says she just loves it and it keeps her very warm. I would purchase this again, and especially from Back Country

Love it but...

  • Fit: True to size

I love this jacket, it keeps me very warm where I live. Which gets as low as 30 something degrees. BUT.. I was disappointed with my exchange. I had ordered this jacket in black. The first order I received was a true black but was a size too big so I exchanged it and the color was way off. It looked more like the gray one but the hood and shoulders were a true black. So I am disappointed about that. Might contact the north face about it.

I purchased this coat for my 19 year old daughter as a gift! She loves it! She took the coat to France for her study abroad experience in the Alps and reports being very warm with it on. I love Backcountry! Great prices and speedy delivery!!

LOVE this COAT!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

This is my 16 yr old daughter's 4th North Face fleece & her FAVORITE!! Supersoft & I mean SUPER soft! Its purpose here is wearing to school, for practice driving with new temps, for going back & forth to indoor track/soccer/show choir practices, so it's perfect. The hood is a new feature for her & she loves it - can flip it on & off and it doesn't trash the hair. Got a Women's Small & the fit is great - slightly tapered so it's not loose/boxy & letting cold air in & it's long enough to reach the top of pants without riding up & baring belly! She's 5' 7", 120 lbs and the Small fits her well. LOVE Backcountry's selections, service, shipping, & PRICES!!!

LOVE this COAT!

Great purchase!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket for my daughter. She's 12 and has wanted a North Face jacket for awhile. She picked the style from a retail store, but they did not have a color she liked. When I found your site, we were pleased with the color choices and the price ($40 less than the retail store). It was a win-win. She loves her jacket and wears it every day and I was saved from having to overpay for something I knew would be over our regular jacket budget.

Softest fleece ever!

Is it okay to pet my jacket like I pet my dog? Haha, this fleece is the softest fleece I have ever touched and feels amazing on! The fleece is quite warm, great for cold fall days. The colors are beautiful, I love the Ion Blue color in person! If I could add a feature to this fleece, I would add a draw-string to the hood. But overall, the jacket is a great price, super warm, and the most comfortable fleece out there!

Hi, Which of the hooded fleece jackets have wider sleeves? I own the Masonic and the arms are too skinny. I am 5'6" 140

Luxurious

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I have tried on other North Face jackets and even own one but this one is so soft and luxurious! I bought it based on on-line reviews even though I was originally shopping for the Denali because this one was rated higher. I could not be more pleased with this jacket!!

Like some other reviewers have said, the sleeves are a bit short. I'm 5'8" and the sleeves are about 2 inches shy of my wrist.

Is this jacket wind resistant? Going on a safari in Africa. They say to be sure to bring a fleece jacket that will keep us warm on early morning game drives in open-air vehicles (chilly mornings--50s--with wind).

Haha...please remember that you asked this question to a lot of dedicated "gearheads"and take my input on it for how you want to apply it to your selection.

If blocking wind and thermal insulation are what you're mainly looking for, you likely want an insulated piece with Gore- Windstopper or some sort of similar outer membrane. Lots of choices from North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Arcteryx... I'm not going to pick on anybody in particular, but just plain fleece doesn't do much of squat when it comes to blocking wind. It works best as an isulative layer with a multi-component layering system...or...those still, cool nights. I don't think it matters whose it is, blocking wind just isn't part of what fleece does, for the most part. For example: This piece that you're looking at is 100 weight, I have a North Face Denali that's 300 weight, and when it's windy, and I wear it alone, it cuts right through and I'm always cold. But, I throw a Windstopper, and maybe a shell over that and it's one of the warmest pieces I own. However, I also have insulated/wind resistant/proof jackets that cost me a bit more, but it's all the things coming together in my favor...all in one jacket...life gets easier.

I have no idea how fast they'll be driving, but low 50s and the wind chill from it probably drops you into the 40-ish range. Not only would a specifically warm and windproof jacket be a better choice now, it'll be a great piece of useful gear for about as long as you own it...an investment. Lot's to choose from, and if you have any questions about anything you see, there's always someone that's willing to do their best to help you out.

And, I hope this helped you out, too.

I second Phil's notion.
Wind goes right through standard fleeces. It sounds like you'd be better served by a softshell acket. Most softshells are uninsulated, but some manufacturers make insulated ones.
I have a softshell that has a fleece lining, and worn alone, it's warm down to the mid 40's F. I won't mention the brand, since it's the house brand of another outdoor outfitter. You should be able to find something similar here at Backcountry.

Thanks Phil and Pat. Your comments definitely help me to narrow down my choices and choose something appropriate.

Great Birthday Present!

I'm back for another Oso Hooded Fleece Jacket for me and 1 for my 10 year old granddaughter's birthday. She loved the silver metallic I bought in February 2013.

Great jacket!

I just recieved my metallic silver jacket today. I know I am going to like it. It will be light weight but will keep me warm in Indiana.

My new favorite jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this jacket because I bought my husband a North Face fleece and it became his favorite jacket. I bought one in weirmaraner brown and I love it! I wear it all the time! I like it because it is light-weight, but still keeps me warm. Definitely recommend this jacket!

Short sleeves

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I loved the jacket, very nice, soft, warm material but I am 5'11 with looong arms. I ordered a large and the sleeves were way too short :( ended up giving it to my mama, she's 5'8 and she loves it.

VERY Warm

I love the jacket. It is much warmer than I expected, but that's not a problem. The sleeves are fairly tailored so I can't wear really thick sweaters under it. Extremely soft.

Soft Enough to Pet!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I compared this style to the Osito jacket, which is similar but without the hood. I felt this one was a bit heavier and I like the smooth, waterproof fabric covering the shoulders and hood. It really does repel rain and snow. The only detail missing is a way to cinch the hood, as it wouldn't stay on my head in the wind. Overall, a good purchase for the sale price.
