Designed for mountaineering in Alaska and the Himalayas, The North Face Nuptse Mitten is insulated with incredibly warm 600-fill down. A waterproof HyVent shell and water-resistant leather palm keep the down safe from moisture while you plod the last steps up to the summit. A warm brushed tricot lining inside the gloves keeps your hands feeling great when the temps drop low enough to make a snowman shiver. The Nuptse Mitten features a long gauntlet to cover your jacket’s cuffs and a nose wipe patch at the side—‘cause snot-cicles just aren’t your best look.

Bottom Line: Mountaineering just got cozy all of a sudden—with your hands encased in fluffy down, you just may make one more lap up to the summit just for kicks.

This is a super light and warm glove. Dont be afraid to use something other than Down insulation though in gloves. There are plenty with primaloft and thinsulate that will be warm too. Will these be warm enough. Hard to say without trying honestly. It depends on how you handle the cold and how cold it really is. I would get something a little tougher than these though. Hestra Heli, Black Diamond Patrol, or the Marmot Randonee are all killer too and I have the Helis personally. THere is one problem with the Helis; my wife wont let me ever wear them since she is!

These are by FAR the WARMEST mittens I've ever owned!! They run a size larger than I would normally take but they are super warm and I can actually use my hands when they're on.

Since there is no removable liner, can one assume the inside

Since there is no removable liner, can one assume the inside of the mitten does not separate the fingers?

Super warm

These are the first 'expensive'pair of mittens I have bought.Every year I felt I would buy a cheaper pair of mitts.I figured if they last a season,I would just replace.Well, every year,I had to replace my cheapo mitts. These I have now had for 2 years and they are going strong! I live in the Canadian prairies and the winters here can be brutal.I walk to work with these mitts in -30 to - 40 C weather(not counting windchill). My hands are ALWAYS warm!!!!! In my mind there are no better mitts around if they can keep my hands warm in that kind of weather.Do yourself a favour and forget about the cheap stuff. You will probably end up paying more replacing them every year or so.Go for the quality!

They're not "Gore Tex" brand, but they are plenty waterproof using North Face's own brand treatment. After all, it's all the same chemistry right? Mine held water out solid for one heavy use season. I treated them with waterproofing at the beginning of the next year (my yearly ritual), so not sure if it was needed or not, but I always do.

Great functionality, didn't last as long as I'd expected

By:
January 26, 2009

I just ordered my second pair of these, replacing the first which was 2 seasons old and had worn a hole through the leather. I would've expected these to last longer than 2 seasons (although I lived in Steamboat and got a lot of heavy use on the mountain). Even with the short life, they were so warm that it was worth it to me to purchase another pair.

While my first pair wore through the leather (as stated above)...that was after some pretty heavy use. The bungee cord end came off on the bungee cord of my second pair after only about 10-12 days out on the slopes. I still LOVE the warmth and water-resistance of these gloves, but if the third pair doesn't hold up better, I will have to find some other brand (I'm usually NOT a North Face fan). The first pair I just threw away but this second pair I'll be returning to Backcountry since 10-12 days use is a completely unacceptable life for a pair of gloves.

The North Face Nuptse Mitten

By:
January 26, 2009

Very warm mittens but still very pricey! Bought a pair last year or two ago and it has not changed in styling!

It's not that water resistant so spray Scotchguard on the back and wipe some leather sealant on the front for better water protection!

It's very bulky though so don't expect much dexterity.
If you do, then buy some gloves instead!

gauntlet

By:
January 9, 2010

The gauntlet of these mittens is a problem -- not long enough to go over a jacket sleeve, so the mitten bunches at the wrist. RM

Used this mittens on my expeditions to Aconcagua Nov./ Des.2007. Cant say that they lived up too my expectations. They did well up until 5900 m.o.h But there from and too the top i had to have another bigger mitten on top to keep my hands warm.It was -30 c below, but the mitten dident do the jobb itself.Bit disepointing..

My first Mitts!

By: Backcountry.com Employee
December 18, 2006

These were the 1st mittens I've worn since I was a little kid and They have been great! It took a little bit for me to get use to the mittens. However, the extra warmth they've provide has been well worth the extra effort! I would recommend these to anyone looking for a great mitten.
