You might say it's in-VESTED in warmth. Get it? Vested ... nevermind.

On a bitterly cold winter day, there's nothing like the toasty-warm goose down inside The North Face Men's Nuptse 2 Down Vest to help ward off the chill. Wear this vest alone or zip it into a compatible The North Face jacket to add some warmth to a thin, uninsulated shell. Headed somewhere cold, but you can't spare a ton of space in your luggage? Pack the Nuptse Vest into its own pocket, slide it into your bag, and roll to your destination prepared for harsh temperatures.

Asphalt Grey Heather/Asphalt Grey

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The picture is completely misleading. The jacket is two tone and the bottom half is really light gray. Jacket is comfortable and light. Really like that it packs down into its pocket.

Warm vest but color not true to picture

  • Fit: True to size

The vest itself is great. Very warm. Stylish. My biggest complaint is that the Asphault grey and asphault heather grey vest did not look like the picture. The picture shows the bottom half of the vest as dark grey. When I received the vest the bottom half is a lot lighter than the picture. I bought to layer with another North Face jacket I own that is blue and asphault heather grey. It just doesn't match. I didn't feel like dealing with returning the vest so I am keeping it. Just wanted to inform anyone else buying that color scheme.

Great vest!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
  • Fit: Runs large

My husband searched high and low for a down vest and we decided on the Nuptse 2. It's very stylish and the grey color goes with pretty much everything. We initially ordered the medium, b/c that's what he normally wears, but i was a little unsure based on the measurement chart. He's 6'1", 165 lbs. It arrived and was way too big. We considered having it altered, but his guy advised against it so we returned and got a small. He likes a tailored slim fit and when the small came in, it was perfect! The returns process was easy and customer service was fantastic to deal with!

How to choose the size? Because I know some vests have larger size than normal.

The most reliable method is to use your chest size and match it with the size chart (click "size?" above the add to cart button..)

Responded on

David is right that with a vest (down or otherwise) the chest measurement will be by far the most important. I would also recommend checking out the size chart, and keep in mind that each brand will have its own size charts listed with its products on Backcountry so always check the size chart listed with the specific product. I find that TNF's size charts are pretty accurate so size with with confidence.

And...don't forget to allow room for layering underneath your vest!

Warmer than a belly full of Whiskey.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

You might be looking at this vest thinking that the 700-fill goose down insulation with a DWR coating are some pretty good features.

But let me tell you something-those are just facts, and facts will get you nowhere. Let me tell you about some real-life situations where I've used the Nuptse 2 Down Vest that will give you a better idea about how "warm" it actually is.

1.) Night skiing with a -20 windchill because your little cousin, "isn't done skiing yet."

2.) Ice fishing all day without a heater (or a bite).

3.) Deer Hunting/falling asleep all day without a heater.

4.) Trying to get cab rides at 3:00 on New Years.

5.) Re-enacting scenes from Cool-Runnings at the ice rink.

Hopefully, this gives you a better idea of the warmth of the Nuptse 2 Down Vest instead of the silly specs and science. But, if you're in to that stuff, hit up a gearhead.

Awesome vest

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this vest with the intetion of using it for outdoor winter work. Since I am usually warmer than the average person I thought a vest would be ideal. The fit is true to size and construction is top-notch, as to be expected with North Face gear. The padded and durable shoulders will stand up to greater wear and tear vs. normal constuction. Also, the mini rip-stop nylon construction prevents snags from becoming gashes. Overall this is a great vest with supperior warmth retention. Core appears noticably warmer as soon as zipped up. Would highly recommend.

May just last a lifetime

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Iconic TNF vest last forever. I've had one for as long as I can remember. Always keeps me warm, cleans up great, never seems to lose its loft. Definitely, a great vest. Wish it was cold enough to wear more often.

Go to vest

This is my "go-to" vest when winter comes knocking in Northern Europe - enough warmth without being too bulky and packs real small too

First of all vest is thinnest from what i expected..

I wasn't expecting a product that is made in Bangladesh and not USA!

Biggest worry regarding this product is that i have already wear it 5-6 times and some feathers are starting to move from inside out!

Shipping was free and super fast!

Backcountry did a price match with one of their competitors and that's why i am giving 3 and not 2 stars.

I am a dedicated owner of North Face products but after buying this vest i think that NF quality standards need improvement.

He loves it!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My man has this in Jacket form and asked for it in Vest form. It came quickly and is warm, but not too warm in 40-50 degree weather. Gender etc is for him so you guys know its not a chick wearing a guy's jacket ;)

Nice Down Vest- good service.

This is a nice vest and came quickly. We were going on a backpack/ climb to Mt. Holy Cross a couple of days after I ordered and I was amazed when it came immediately and I was able to take it with.

i like to wear my stuff tall i am 5'7 5'8ish and would like to know what size to get and i dont want it super massive but i like a little extra width and length in my stuff what size should i get

Responded on

Again, use the size chart...and if you like the extra room, just size up from whatever the chart suggest you should actually wear according to your actual size.

nuptse 2 down vest

nice quality, although the feathers poke out quite a bit. bought it for a gift, had to exchange for bigger size. boyfriend is 200 lbs, 6'1- had to get the XL. he loves it, perfect "weight" for winter and nice enough to wear as a coat- he thinks it is warmer than a jacket! thanks backcountry, great customer service!

Hi, I'm 5'9 and 185lbs would i be a medium or large in this particular vest? Keep in mind I would like to wear a northface hoodie underneath.

Responded on

I would probably go with a large, especially for layering underneath.
