True to size

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

After reading through all the reviews and feeling conflicted on going with a small versus the medium, I went with a medium. I am 5"4 125-127lbs, and the medium was just too big. I have wide shoulders and so I thought the medium would be perfect but gave me waaay too much room in the chest area (maybe it would help if my chest is a little or much larger). I normally don't like my jackets too fitted but I'm hoping the small would fit better. Hope I am right. I have tried and retried the jacket on several times contemplating whether to return it. Final decision - I am returning my medium black jacket for a small. Hope this review will help those that contemplating with their decision.

You definitely need a Small. I am 5'4" , 118 lbs and the XS is great. I don not wear huge bulky sweaters underneath and I also have wide shoulders. You will be very happy with a smaller size.

Great Down Jacket

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This is my second Nuptse 2; the previous one was bought in 2013, and has turned out to be a great jacket. For reference, I am 5'4", weigh 118 lbs, and use size XS. Comparing both I can tell you this new jacket is slightly larger, is made in China instead of Bangladesh and is equally comfortable and warm. Although I am uncomfortable with items that use down originating in China, The North Face has implemented the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), which is very helpful in determining the origin of down used in manufacturing their products, meaning, no live- plucking or force feeding of the geese. This matters to me so yes, I do recommend this jacket in every way.

Is the Gardenia White more an off-white than a true white?

Responded on

It's off white. The North Face has a color called TNF White which is stark white.

I am trying to buy a winter jacket for my GF, she is 5'6" 135 w/ 34d, normally wears s-m, but with all the reviews I am trying to figure what would be best. please advise me. Thanks

Responded on

If your GF likes fitted jackets and will wear a "non bulky" sweater underneath, the small should be fine. The medium will be roomier. Also, if she has narrow shoulders, the small will be perfect as the jacket is a bit wide in the shoulder area. Also, sleeves are a tad long. I am 5'4", 118 lbs, wide shoulders, long arms and wear XS.

gorgeous jacket but runs small

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

i have a nuptse that i have had for 10 plus years love it so much i wanted another i ordered the small taupe green my first one that i have had for 10 years is a small fits beautifully but this new nupste 2 runs small so i exchanged for the medium which fits beautifully so glad you had the medium in the taupe green love that color have received many compliments more importantly the jacket is warm and i know i will have for many years these jackets are very sturdy and durable i strongly recommomend it and your website! you guys are great!

Responded on

The jacket was redesigned a few years back to make it more fitted than the original one you have so it makes sense it's smaller with respect to that style. However, if you compare this newer version to one a couple of years older, the fit is the same.

Nice jacket, runs small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I purchased this XL jacket for my sister but it was much too small for her. It would have fit me perfect with medium weight layer undershirt - I'm 5'4" and typically a size 12 and/or large (broader shoulders). Too bad I already own a MontBell I love.

I'd recommend sizing up.

Nuptse 2 Down Jacket...toasty n cool!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Okay so the Nuptse 2 jacket is of course very good looking on the rack and on your bod! The 700 down keeps you very toasty - perfect for 34 degrees and below (in my opinion) but I have to take it off after the outside temp gets any higher than 40 degrees.
I'm 5' 5" and 125 lbs and the small worked well, although it's a little shorter than I had expected in the back so if you bend over, it comes up above your waist line, while it rests at the waist line when sitting up straight. On that note, I recommend it for casual use vs. riding on the mountain or any physical activity that requires a lot of mid-body motion. You'll be pulling it down a lot if you plan to wear it skiing or snowboarding. It's puffy but not obnoxiously puffy and yeah, that about sums it up. It's really cute on and keeps me really warm - I definitely recommend the women's North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket!

First Down!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This is a damned fine jacket. I think it's quite comfortable and manages to be a little bit stylish considering its puffy nature.
I managed to get a hole in it almost immediately after purchase. I was sitting around a campfire and got a small 1/8" ember hole. I used hot glue to close the hole and colored it with sharpie, it's not really noticeable.
It's warm but not really wind proof. I was happy with it on a snowshoeing trip. We had full packs so we were hiking in tshirts but it was 10 degrees out so when we got to camp, the Nuptse 2 felt pretty fantastic.
I had it out a couple of summers ago on an unseasonably cold night and ended up wearing it in my sleeping bag - lifesaver! It packs down good and tight in its own pocket which is pretty cool but kind of a pain. I think I'd throw it in a cheap dry sack or compression sack rather than fiddle with it. Maybe it just takes practice, I only tried it once.
It's a great everyday winter coat and I'll probably always stuff it in my bag when snowshoeing. I've scotch-guarded mine to death but I still wouldn't wear it in the driving rain or really wet snow.
I don't think you can beat it for lightweight warmth but it's not all that weatherproof because it's an un-shelled down jacket. As long as you're mindful of what you're using it for, I think you'll be very happy with this jacket.

Lovely lady's that deserve the best.

"My North Face Nuptuse Women's Down Jacket is terrific! It keeps me super warm on all my outdoor winter adventures. The fit is fabulous and hugs my waist, which I like a lot. The durability is also top of the line. I absolutely love it!"

I am 5'3" and currently weigh 150 lbs. What would be the best size for me to order at this weight? Thanks.

Best Answer Responded on

This jacket is on the roomy side, but does have long arms. I would say it would be safe to size down a size from what you normally wear if length is a concern. I'm 5'4" and 130 and a small fits me well, but the xs is fine too, so its on the roomy side.

I did not see care instructions anywhere,...

I did not see care instructions anywhere, how do you clean this jacket?

Best Answer Responded on

I am going to give you exactly what The North Face Recommends for cleaning down jackets:

"Periodic cleaning of down jackets is essential to maintaining maximum loft and ensuring the long life of the product. Though it is possible to wash your own down product, we recommend that you have your jacket or sleeping bag professionally cleaned by a service that specializes in cleaning down. If you do not have a cleaning service in your local area, you may send your product to the Warranty Department, and request that we send it to our cleaning service.

I wash mine in a front loading machine ( not one with a center agitator) on gentle cycle with a mild liquid detergent or tech wash. I then ( and this is important or it wont fluff back up) dry the jacket on a low heat with 2 or 3 tennis balls in the dryer. Dry until it is completely dry and puffy again. This actually really helps me extend the life of my down.

Not high enough performance

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've had this coat before, but lost it on an airplane. It is a nice down coat, and I like how you can zip it into the shell, but it isn't high enough performance for what I need. I'm looking for a warm puffy for cold belays and winter camping. I also wanted something with a hood. This is hard to find in woman's small sizes, so I got this coat but then I just wasn't satisfied. I did more research and found a great review for the Rab Neutrino Endurance Jacket (http://www.outdoorgearlab.com/Winter-Jacket-Womens-Reviews/Rab-Neutrino-Endurance-Jacket-Womens). I got that one, and it is just what I was looking for.

Do the Northface jackets have a tendency...

Do the Northface jackets have a tendency to shed down?

Responded on

Melissa,
All down jackets are going to shed a little down over time, even the most high quality jackets out there. The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket is no different in this sense. However, I have never heard of TNF down jackets losing down any more than any other brand.

Responded on

I think you do hear of North Face jackets shedding down quite a bit... but I think that's because they are so popular, not because they shed down any more than any other brand....

Responded on

...My friend complains of his N.F. Micro Thunder shedding quite a bit, the McMurdo to a lesser extent, and my N.F. Helicity dose quite a bit.
His Patogonia (Primo Down)to a lesser degree yet.
...But all will shed to a greater/lesser degree. Can't beat down for exterior insulation...best to look for a water proof/wind proof exterior (and/or a 'rip-stop' material, if at all possible) for best protection and wear.

Responded on

I think this jacket actually loses considerably less down than most of my others because the fabric is so densely woven. It weighs more because of this, but feathers have a hard time getting through. I could see how other NF down jackets with thinner and lighter weight materials would lose feathers, but this one doesn't seem to.

Super warm and light weight

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Used this to ski in Montana in 15-20 degree weather and was very happy. Room to layer. I'm 5'8", 125 lbs and ordered a small & the fit is good, except the sleeves run a bit short. Love the Prussian Blue Heather color.

Cute Jacket, warm!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Ordered this coat for my daughter. She's in Jr. High and typically opts for brands like Abercromie, etc. However, we've had colder temps than typical this year so it was time to her something that's cute and keeps her warm! Along with early morning walks to the bus stop and weekends in the Mountains, this jacket fits the bill. She's about 5'4" and chose this coat herself and is happy with it. She could have worn an x-tra small, but of course I opted for a Small as I know she'll get several years of use out of it! She has some room to grow, but overall great fit, slightly tapered, without being too bulky.

Too Small

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I'm 5'10, 180 lbs. I felt like this jacket was to constricting, especially with the Denali jacket underneath. The sleeves drove me crazy, because they weren't long enough. I'm exchanging for The North Face Inlux Insulated Jacket

Love the jacket!

I was looking for a down jacket for warmth in a cold dry environment. This jacket is perfect. I tried this jacket on at a retail store for bit but they did not have the color I wanted and it wasn't on sale. I found backcountry.com on a google search. I normally wear an XS to S and I went with XS and can still fit a fleece underneath.

Good Jacket

Jacket is very warm. Wore it skiing in 20 degrees and was perfect. Runs slightly large and a little baggy on the chest area.

Love this jacket, it's my second one. I have yet to get cold while wearing it. I use it for cooler days in Utah (25 and below). Fits true to size.
