I was looking for a down jacket for warmth in a cold dry environment. This jacket is perfect. I tried this jacket on at a retail store for bit but they did not have the color I wanted and it wasn't on sale. I found backcountry.com on a google search. I normally wear an XS to S and I went with XS and can still fit a fleece underneath.

Jacket is very warm. Wore it skiing in 20 degrees and was perfect. Runs slightly large and a little baggy on the chest area.

Love this jacket, it's my second one. I have yet to get cold while wearing it. I use it for cooler days in Utah (25 and below). Fits true to size.

I'm from Australia and going to Canada during dec-april. I have no warm clothing that would be suitable for Canada. Do you think this jacket would be ok for the winter over there?

I've been to Toronto and Windsor, my friends in Minnesota USA spend more time in Canada; having moved back from NZ to the states I think you will find the cold quite a shock. You might look at the Lyngen jackets if they are in your price range as one has a hood. Or, Marmot which has a higher fill and was pretty popular in Wellington. I think this is a great jacket - seen it in the store, but that you may find yourself wishing for a hood Dec-Mar. It kind of depends also if you'll be in the city running about or primarily outdoors. If the latter I'd get something with a hood.

I thought the woman jacket sizes were bigger than what the size chart suggested

No, it is just a polyester material. A few drops will be fine but i wouldnt wear it in a storm. It can zip into waterproof North Face shells, though.

Do you know which waterproof shells it can zip into?

I was lucky enough to get this jacket at 1/2 price and even though it's spring in my area, I happened to go to work in a VERY cold building right after receiving it. I've been wearing it ever since and am HAPPY! It's warm without bulk. Not as streamlined as the Patagonia down sweater, but not as big as some other 700 fill jackets on the market. Has nice features like a glove clip on the sleeve, velcro wrist closures, a soft, padded collar, zippered interior pocket, etc. It's tapered at the waist which is nice to avoid the typical boxy look. I also like the matte finish fabric. Hate the shiny down jackets. LOVE the green interior color with the brown outer color! I haven't tried stuffing it yet - not sure I'll be able to do that, but if it can be done, it will be done. Please note: Exchanged a medium for a large for a much better fit. GET THIS for next winter if you need a jacket. Thanks, Backcountry, for such easy buy/return. Great customer service!!

So, I am normally a true small, but found with several NF jackets that the sleeves were too short, but body was fine (Metropolis) or it was too tight, but sleeves were good (East Village jacket). Does jacket run true to size?

I'm 5ft 105lbs-107lbs, 35in bust, this coat was very big in the bust/sleeves. The torso width - okay, but long overall.

Get your measurements and call the gear heads or chat. I'm petite and they will work hard to get the best fit!

Bought this jacket for my wife and she loves it. I haven't heard her complain once about being cold when she wears it.

This jacket is sure to keep you warm in the coldest midwest weather. I bought a size bigger since I am always between med and large. I first had the med and decided to get the large. Backcountry is always about your satisfaction.
