Too light

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

I was looking for a medium weight down jacket and this one wasn't it. It is simply too light weight although it seemed well made.

Excellent value

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket to serve as a medium weight down jacket to be worn when it was too cool for my down sweater and too warm for my Marmot 8000M down parka.

The Nuptse 2 is just perfect for my needs. It is well made and equally well proportioned.

The adjustable hem is convenient and the zippered pockets are just the right size, although a softer lining would have been nice as would an interior pocket of some sort.

All things considered though ,at $142.97, the Nuptse 2 is an excellent value.

I highly recommend the Nuptse 2 down jacket for a light/medium-weight jacket.

Hi, I'm 5'6", 160 lbs, 35" chest, any recommendation between Size S or M? Thanks

Responded on

David,

At those dimensions, I'd be going with the size Small.

With a 35" chest, you'd b swimming in the Medium. TNF products tradtionally run a tad big. Unless it's the summit series.

1st impressions

  • Fit: True to size

I just received my jacket today. I decided to order the large. At just a hair over 6 feet, 165 pounds... I was concerned about it. I know the large size fits my body, it was the arm length I always worry about when ever ordering online when there isnt a tall size. I was/am very pleased to say... it fits perfectly! It isnt at all bulky, and is extremely lightweight. Im anxious to get some miles on it so I can give another review on the warmth and craftsmanship of the coat

Is the length of the sleeve, the same for the large and extra large. Most of the time I only need a large (body) but need the extra large due to the length of my arms

Best Answer Responded on

The sleeve length in the XL will be about 1/2" longer than the sleeve length of the L. Not a huge difference, but I will leave it to you to decide whether it is too much.

Hey Carrie,

This is what The North Face has to say about cleaning down jackets: Periodic cleaning of down jackets is essential to maintaining maximum loft and ensuring the long life of the product. Though it is possible to wash your own down product, we recommend that you have your jacket or sleeping bag professionally cleaned by a service that specializes in cleaning down. If you do not have a cleaning service in your local area, you may send your product to the Warranty Department, and request that we send it to our cleaning service.

Responded on

Also too, don't forget to periodically use a spray water-proofer after cleaning, as some of its protectant will invariably be lost in the cleaning process. N.F. sells their own, or go with any other reputable brand you choose. Allow plenty of ventilation when spraying, and time for total drying of repellent.

Download the Gear Aid app on your smartphone. It has two columns, one for the piece of gear and one for what you want to do to it(clean, repair ect.) They recommend taking it to a laundromat as home machines can damage down products. Give it a look it has a lot of great information for caring for all of your gear.

Warmest winter jacket EVER

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've always been a fan of the Nuptse jacket. This version 2 is even better! Don't let the lower fill number fool you. This is heavily stuffed with 700. It's beautifully designed not to look like a giant puff ball.

Its fine with just a t-shirt underneath at 15 degrees. This is my "go-to" jacket when its very cold outside.

I'm 5'8" 155 pounds. The jacket fits me just right. I did wish the torso was a bit longer but I can understand why its not a parka.

I got the asphalt grey/heather grey combo. Perfect color. The North Face logo stitching is very low key. Unlike the photos, one will not notice the stitched logo at first glance. This is good if you want a low-key jacket. Look for a different color if you want your jacket to scream "North Face".

Will the Nuptse2 pair up and zip into the Venture shell

JL,
The Nuptse 2 won't be compatible with the Venture or Resolve rain jackets. However, it is compatible withTNF hardshells as long as they are the same size.

Hotter Than a Two-Dollar Pistol!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I sort of stumbled upon this jacket a couple of years ago when I was looking for something to take winter camping. I wanted something that was decently lightweight, packable, sturdy, and warm, and this seemed to fit the bill. Well, two+ years and a whole heap o' adventures later, this is what I've learned from my good ol' Nuptse. First, it's not the lightest down jacket out there, but is still light enough to not be a burden, and it packs down to about the size of a camp pillow. Next, it's bomb-proof. I've used it cutting and hauling logs, skiing through trees, and generally beating the crap out of it, all with nary a hole to show for it. I'm pretty confident that my kids will steal this from me someday. And finally, this jacket is definitely warm. In fact, it's probably too warm! I don't wear it around town because I have to take it off any time I go indoors. I wore it over just a t-shirt on a showshoe trip in sub-zero temps and had to unzip it!
I only have a couple of complaints. It fits very big. I'm 5'10" 185 lbs and the Small fits great. Also, it's a chore to cram it into the tiny stow pocket. But if you're looking for a solid jacket that will keep you warm in the most frigid of situations, the Nuptse is a great choice.

Very good

This is a very good jacket. Packs down very small and is lightly insulated. Feels extremely warm, so, goes without saying but I'll say it anyway, get it for mountaineering, climbing, not for city wear. I tried wearing it a few days around the city and it was just too warm.

Extremely good jacket! Just one complain, no hood. I saw a review that said it did, under the collar. I checked but didn't find anything, no opening or anything that would allow to unfold the hood. In the review, the person mentions it took them years to find it, perhaps it was a previous model.

Still, if you don't need a hood, this jacket is very good.

Warm and Lightweight Winter Gear.

The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket is a great jacket for cold weather. The weather in NYC can get extremely cold and windy. The Nuptse 2 can help keep you cold in fridig weather without weighing you down. The Jacket is extremely lightweight. Layering it with a hoodie will add extra warmth, keeping you comfortably warm in cold weather. It would be cool it they added a Napoleon chest pocket. I'm not a big fan of velcro closures since they normally lose their ability to keep things close after time, and the sleeve cuffs have velcro closures. But aside that the Jacket has proven to keep me warm. Too soon to comment on durability, since this is the first 2012 - 2013 Winter Season that I've owned and worn it.

Nuptse 2

I love it. My new favorite. Lightweight over your clothes yet locks out the cold. Any cold! Windy? No problem. Raining? Snowing? No problems. It could have been less expensive, but the quality easily justifies the price.

Glad I Ordered This Liner!

I ordered the The North Face Condor Triclimate Jacket and decided to also order this liner based on my past experience with ordering cold-weather gear. Glad I did because when I first tested the Triclimate Jacket with the Apex ClimateBlock liner that came with it it didn't stand up to the windy low-teen's weather. Since it gets below 0 degrees F here in Iowa I needed more and this liner fills the bill. It is lightweight but affords great warmth . It was compatible with the Triclimate Jacket so it's an easy process to switch between the two liners.
