The North Face Nuptse 2 Down Jacket is a great jacket for cold weather. The weather in NYC can get extremely cold and windy. The Nuptse 2 can help keep you cold in fridig weather without weighing you down. The Jacket is extremely lightweight. Layering it with a hoodie will add extra warmth, keeping you comfortably warm in cold weather. It would be cool it they added a Napoleon chest pocket. I'm not a big fan of velcro closures since they normally lose their ability to keep things close after time, and the sleeve cuffs have velcro closures. But aside that the Jacket has proven to keep me warm. Too soon to comment on durability, since this is the first 2012 - 2013 Winter Season that I've owned and worn it.

I have this jacket and it's great. I'm looking for a gore-tex zip-in compatible outer layer. Can anyone advise please?

Varius Guide is Hyvent, not Gore-Tex (pretty much the same, though), and will work with this jacket.

I love it. My new favorite. Lightweight over your clothes yet locks out the cold. Any cold! Windy? No problem. Raining? Snowing? No problems. It could have been less expensive, but the quality easily justifies the price.
Glad I Ordered This Liner!

I ordered the The North Face Condor Triclimate Jacket and decided to also order this liner based on my past experience with ordering cold-weather gear. Glad I did because when I first tested the Triclimate Jacket with the Apex ClimateBlock liner that came with it it didn't stand up to the windy low-teen's weather. Since it gets below 0 degrees F here in Iowa I needed more and this liner fills the bill. It is lightweight but affords great warmth . It was compatible with the Triclimate Jacket so it's an easy process to switch between the two liners.

I bought my first Nupste in 1998. I have attempted to replace it several times with other coats and I always end up wearing my old one. It is old, stained, smelly, ripped and I will never part with it. I'm finally replacing it because there is no other coat for me but TNF Nuptse.

Best money I've spent on a jacket and I got the free two day shipping via the holiday special. I'm 6'0" 175 lbs and the medium is a perfect fit. Dress shirt size is 16/34/35. Only qualm is the feathers that ooze out from time to time. I can't speak to the longevity, but 1 month in I'm happy.
Great jacket

I bought this jacket for my very picky husband and he loves it. There must be some big guys out there wearing tight winter jackets though, because my husband is 5'8", 150 lbs and the medium fits just right. It could be a tad longer in the body but the arm length is perfect.
Great jacket

Solid down jacket. I'm 6'2, 175, and I purchased a medium. Perfect fit. I'm also a 16 neck, 34 sleeves, 42 chest. I like it because it's not covered in bells and whistles. Just a simple straightforward down jacket.
Not as good as I hope

Look is good, but it doesn't keep you as warmth as the previous reviews stated. Also, it doesn't have a hood.

This may also depend on shoulder girth and chest circumference/size. I am a little taller than you at 5'10" and weigh 190 lbs and wear a size Medium in TNF. I prefer a little more streamlined fit with my apparel, so maybe a Large would suit you for a little extra room & length.
You can always order both Medium & Large and return the one that doesn't fit as well to Backcountry.com. These folks will take care of you!!

The specs say 700-fill down.

@Dave - Fill weight is not the same loft fill, which is what the 700 refers to.

I was trying on the Nuptse 2 Jacket today and it doesn't seem to feel the same as the last one! I just can pin point what it is. I find with the Nuptse 1 it was more puffier and seemed a little warmer! Maybe its the new baffles on it that makes it more slimming and not as puffy! See what TNF brings out next fall/winter. Still great products from The North Face!

Best Durability - Nuptse, Pat. Hi-Loft, or Marmot Zeus?
I am looking at the Marmot Zeus, NF Nuptse, and the Patagonia Hi-Loft - all seem to be about the same in terms of warmth. Any feedback on what is more durable in terms of both damage (first), and wind-resistance (second)?

I personally own Marmot, TNF, Mountain Hardwear and Patagonia and there is not much difference between them to be honest. They all make great products and I would concentrate more on the weight and fit and you should be fine.

The Zeus uses 1.1 oz ripstop, the Nuptse 50D 1.8 oz, and the Hi-Loft 20D 1.4 oz. I wear a jacket with 20D 1.05oz fabric that has taken sticks and rocks without issue and is windproof as far as I can tell. Any of the fabrics will be fine.
Both the Zeus and Hi-Loft use 800 fill down while the Nuptse utilizes 700 fill. That the Nuptse uses lower-fill down and weighs almost twice as much would eliminate it for me.
Between the Zeus and the Hi-Loft, I would go with whichever fits better. You can't go wrong with either one.
