For all your alpine adventures, you can count on The North Face Women’s Mountain Light Jacket to keep you warm and dry. This classic, all-around shell features soft, waterproof breathable Gore-Tex fabric and fully-taped seams block out wet weather; when the rain turns to snow, zip in a The North Face puffy or fleece for cold-weather protection.

  • Heavier-duty fabric on the shoulder and arms protects against abrasion from pack straps and skis
  • Two-way underarm zips let some air in when you’re working hard
  • Brushed lining keeps your chin from chafing when you duck behind the protective high collar
  • Elastic and hook-and-loop adjustable cuffs and hem cinch cord keep out cold drafts
  • Adjustable hood comes off when the sun comes out

Bottom Line: Classic, all-around protection.

Mountain Light Black with HOT PINK

It's a great waterproof jacket, but I have decided I don't like the zip-in capability. It's just not necessary. Yes waterproof and yes, lots of great pockets. But be aware, the black one has hot pink lining, so if you don't want an awful clashing color scheme, get a different color jacket.

Like all North Face products, it's well made. However, the sizing runs small. It's very tight fitting allowing little room for interior liners or sweaters. Since this is supposed to be a shell it should be cut large enough to fit such liners. Also, it's very short providing less protection than is optimal. Great looking but not practical.

I'm looking at getting this for my wife to use over her Nuptse

I'm looking at getting this for my wife to use over her Nuptse down jacket. She wears an XS in the Nuptse. Should I size up to a Small in the shell?

The Nuptse is really puffy under the Mountain Light, and a small shell would be better over the xs, except if she wants to zip it in - the length of the zipper will work, but it will be a little bit shorter than the corresponding zipper in the Mountain Light shell. It doesn't look bad, but it is not a perfect fit. I ended up going with a primaloft jacket under my Mountain Light because the Nuptse was just too puffy. Fleece works, but if you really like to layer, it is not so easy to slide on and off - sticks to your sweaters.

Just wanted a picture of this online. It would have altered my decision to purchase this jacket.

Great through late Fall!

Great jacket! I'm 5'9 140 lbs and my long torso is no problem here. It is longer than the Apex Bionic and probably provides similar amount of warmth, since it's no winter jacket that's for sure. But if you zip in a NF fleece, you should be relatively warm in some snow. Definitely warmer than the NF Venture (that's just a rain coat) so it's similar to the NF Perilune jacket. This is more girly and designed.

Tons of gadgets, ie pockets/zip ins. Hood zips, and there are a ton of zips around the coat for ventilation. Couldn't ask for better!
