In the mountains, versatility reigns supreme. From a fall rain jacket to a winter ski shell, the Men's Mountain Light Jacket from The North Face is built to do it all. The outer shell is composed of polyester ripstop over a 2-layer Gore-Tex waterproof membrane to keep things nice and dry. The seams of the outer shell are fully taped to ensure waterproofing during all conditions, and should things get warm, you can always open the underarm zip vents and get some air flowing through. A removable hood lets you customize things according to your situation, and zippered hand pockets let you keep some snacks handy for the chairlift.

  • 50D Gore-Tex 2L polyester ripstop shell

Almost Perfect

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

This shell provides excellent warmth, water resistance and functionality on the trail. On the coldest days, I usually just need a base layer and I'm good to go. My only issue is there are no underarm vents which makes it not as breathable as I hoped.

Almost Perfect

What? The description says that there are... has there been a redesign or is this a typo by BC?

Mine has Pit Zips. I think older versions of this jacket had huge front pocket zips instead of pit zips.

Good jacket, sleeves a little short.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I'm 6'0" and 150 lbs, and the North face size finder told me to order a small, so I initially ordered the small to zip in my small Denali fleece. The small was too small in the chest, especially with the fleece zipped in. I returned it and ordered a medium. The medium fits well, but the sleeves are slightly shorter than those on the denali. Otherwise, It's a great jacket. With the Denali zipped in it will serve as my winter coat and I'll use it as a light rain jacket in the spring.
