The North Face women's Momentum Jacket is a revolutionary fleece for light-and-fast scrambling through the backcountry. Part of North Face's Flight Series, it's built with breathable 4-way stretch fabric so it'll move with you when reaching for the next hold or paddling across the lake. Monkey thumbs keep the elastic bound cuffs in place for layering and a Napoleon pocket stows your energy bar.
Bottom Line: This Momentum will maintain its course for years.
That's the only thing I regret about this jacket .....I only bought one. Maybe later......more.
I'm 5'7", weigh 125. I have long arms and long body. This jacket seems custom- made for me. I live on Kauai at a higher elevation than most of the island. This winter has been long, cold, windy and wet. When I got my new Northface Momentum jacket, I was comfortable for the first time this winter.. It's lighter than a sweatshirt hoodie but protects better. The inside has a very lightweight flannel/fleece lining which makes it so comfortable that I can understand why one reviewer said she "even slept in it".
I've been telling folks that it's the most perfect garment for me that I've ever purchased in my life .....and I'm 65! I wear it for running and it's perfect. The close fit eliminates the bulk of most jackets and keeps my body heat where it belongs while allowing breathing. I don't get why someone was afraid that the net pockets wouldn't hold up to having keys in them. They seem very strong to me. I like them - makes it very streamlined.
I hope I can purchase another one before they go out of stock/inventory.
I just ordered my Northface Hedgehog midi boots for hiking in the mountains. I anticipate being able to write just as glowing a report for them. I like the way Northface manufactures things ...... green and no allergens. backcountry is a great company to do business with. Thanks!
Oh .....thank all you ladies who took the time to write reveiws that I could study before I made my purchase. It helped VERY MUCH.
This jacket is insanely cozy and just the right weight for moderate activity (hiking, etc.) in 50-60 degree weather with a t-shirt underneath. It is so soft on the inside that it feels like a brand new sweatshirt - but it's so much better because it is not even remotely bulky. I love the thumb holes too. It also washes very well. It has made me a Northface convert (in addition to Northface's awesome windwall products). By the way, Backcountry is an absolutely fantastic shopping website. The shipping is free (above $50) and ridiculously fast. I've also had to return a couple of items and the return process very quick and my credit card was credited within a week. Very impressive.
Alright,My girlfriend and I live in the far north where it is very cold. I told her to come on the web-site to pick out a jacket for Chirstmass. She choose this one and I am wondering if this is a good pick for very cold weather? It looks like more of a spring/fall jacket to me, but I don't know much.
This is not a winter jacket at all. It's basically a heavy shirt. It'll be warm on its own (with say a t-shirt under it) down to about 45 degrees, maybe. Sorry, but you're going to have to tell her to pick something a little heavier. Depending on how cold it'll be, the Marmot Firefly, Arc'teryx Handler, and Mountain Hardwear Mistral are all good choices for right around $100, and they'll be good down to about freezing. Anything colder and I'd start looking at down.

Got this jacket for my girlfriend and she loves it. Not an outdoorswoman by nature, she goes hiking and occasionally camping with me. This jacket keeps her warm enough, but not too hot and is just wind proof enough, Stylish enough to wear around town so we get out money's worth. (That's The North Face's thing, though, isn't it?) Great cut and fit. Loves the monkey thumbs.
Great light jacket for early fall or spring weather. Wouldn't recommend for temperatures under 40 degrees. I love the monkey cuffs, and it is very light weight and great for layering under winter coats in really cold weather. I have used it for summer backpacking and it was perfect for cooler morning and night temperatures.
This is the first time I've bought North Face and it won't be the last! This jacket is uber comfy! I wear it all over the house, to work, and everywhere else in between, including bed!
I can't wait for fall when I get to test it in the cold. I have never been so excited for winter! All in all, a GREAT buy. The sleeves are the perfect length, the fit is great. Next time I'm buying two!
I bought this jacket to take on my recent vacation to Europe and it worked like a charm! I'm not tall (5'4"), but have longer arms, and the sleeves on this were the perfect length. It's also cut a bit longer through the body than the typical North Face baselayers, which I really appreciated! It was great for barreling through the wind and rain in Ireland and comfortable for the fair and breezy nights in Paris. A definite must-buy!
we don't get super low temps down here in Baton Rouge, but the humidity makes 45 degrees feel worse than dry 18 degree weather. This jacket is a good layering jacket. i usually wear a couple layers underneath. i bought this jacket for early morning runs before class and to wear around campus. Its a good jacket to wear everyday around campus especially when its not super cold outside that way ppl arent looking at u weird bc you are wearing a ski jacket with shorts and sandals. lol i usually wear a small, but took advice from others on here and bought an XS. it fits great. This was my first TNF jacket and i heard that tnf jackets run short on length..This jacket is a perfect length on me. I hate short shirts and jackets. so if i like the length; then Im sure you all wouldn't have any problems with it being too short. The cut is flattering. i hate boxy jackets. i like to have a figure even in jackets. Im not sure exactly how windproof it is. I havn't noticed it being excellent in that area, but it just started getting colder; so I might just be acting like a baby bc im not used cooler temps yet :)...regardless, this jacket fits awesome! great buy, and it came super super fast! like 3 days fast!
This jacket quickly became my new favorite. I already owned a North Face Denali jacket, which I loved. However, I find this jacket to be more suitable for both chilly summer nights and colder fall days and nights. I can't wait to try it out this winter! It definitely does the job of keeping me warm. I find myself using the monkey thumbs every time I wear it, and they're perfect for layering due to this feature. For reference, I am 5'10" and the sleeves are the perfect length for me (size L). I am very happy with this purchase :).
This is really cute jacket with the thumbholes and pretty color, but it's nothing special. It doesn't block wind and is too thin to be warm, so it's not very practical for the climate I live in. I suppose if you lived in a warm climate, this would be a good jacket for summer nights. It's really cute!
I gave my height/weight but forgot to say that I ordered a size medium and it's perfect. I'm still loving my Momentum jacket....our winter has been extended so I'm getting more wear out of it. I don't think I'd be warm enough in it below, say, 45.
I wish I could afford more of these. They are really comfortable and a great base layer when it is cold out but perfect for outer wear when it is chilly out. Comfortable enough to sleep in (a little secret here - I have).
I have to agree with the other reviewers, the Momentum Jacket is a slick item, but it's the kind of article of clothing that fits a narrow set of requirements. For example, if you happen to be looking for a layering piece (as I was), I don't think this one is for you. The inside is a certain kind of fleece, but not the kind thats particularly soft (i.e. something you'd want to snuggle up in after being on the slopes all day). This is, however a perfect jogging outer layer for use in somplace where it doesn't get too cold (think late spring in New England).
I've worn this jacket as a base layer snowboarding every day this season. Amazingly comfortable, very little bulk, adds warmth or is enough on its own for a spring day. Sleeve holes are awesome.
This is a great track jacket but not a good option for casual wearers. Some of the features that benefit runners (such as being shorter in the front and long in the back) don't work well for a night on the town. This jacket is a thin, humid variety and probably works best for windy days when it isn't raining (since there's no hood). IF you're looking for something light and versatile and water resistance isn't a big deal to you, I'd recommend a light fleece such as the Salathe instead. This jacket hasn't received much wear at my house, but would be ideal for a jogger.
Best "fleece"!!! I love that it is fleece inside but not on the outside so it never gets pilly and always looks brand new. I wear it all year long. In the winter under a jacket if I go outside and in the house alone. In the summer it is great for a cool day on the boat or cool nights. I ordered a small and a medium and the small was way too short. Probably a good 4 inches shorter than the medium. I'm 5'6" 125 lbs to give you an idea. I have one in black and one in brown. You won't be disappointed!
I love this jacket. I left mine on an airplane, and once I accepted the fact that American Airlines "never found it", I purchased the same jacket to replace it. It is the perfect weight for Summers in the North or Winters in the South. It looks great with jeans, shorts, or a casual skirt. It's like wearing a white cartigan without feeling so "School Teacher".
This jacket is perfect for everything. You can wear it as a single layer during warmish days or put something over when it's really chilly and not feel bulky. I love the fabric on this. It's super stretchy and has a nice feel to it. The inside feels like fleece and has maintained that feel through numerous washings. I wear this jacket all day at work, jogging in the mornings, under my snowboarding shell, and just lounging around. I have a lot of North Face products but this is by far my favorite. It is longer than a lot of the North Face tops but it still tends to run a little large. If you don't plan on layering it over anything I'd go a size down. I've had mine for over a year and I still get compliments on it almost every time I wear it. A great buy.
good jacket, light weight, non pilling, perfect when the temp is in the 50s or so. my only qualm is that the body is very large compared to the sleeves. i ordered a medium bc of my long arms, and the chest and back are just huge on me. however i feel like it would be nigh impossible to layer had i ordered a small bc the sleeves are so narrow. good quality jacket, i'd recommend it. definitely NOT a cold weather jacket.
California girl home for the holidays and training for a spring marathon....this jacket is working out very well for running in the 30's and I can tell it will be great for the cool evenings and early am runs in California.
I love this jacket and wear it pretty much everywhere. It is light and warm and fits great. On its own it is warm enough (at least for me) in 40-50 degree temps. It's not windproof, so it is breathable and a good option for a light jogging jacket.
What sold me on this jacket were the thumb holes in the sleeves. They make it very easy to layer the jacket under another coat, and I love pulling my gloves on over the sleeve so the skin at my wrists isn't exposed.
My only complaint with the jacket is with the material that make up the pockets. It is a light almost mesh-like fleece with holes in it. I was afraid when I first got the jacket that the pockets would rip out if I put my keys in the pockets, but so far so good.
Overall, this jacket is well worth the money. It fits true to size, is durable and very comfortable!
I have had my North Face Momentum jacket for about 6 months. I have taken it as a layer while in the snow, out to breakfast with friends, layer while running in cooler temps and a numerous day hikes. The arms are long on this jacket with the monkey holes which is great for me as I am tall.
This jacket is insanely cozy and just the right weight for moderate activity (hiking, etc.) in 50-60 degree weather with a t-shirt underneath. It is so more...
