The North Face built the Men’s Momentum Hybrid ¼ Zip for cool fall and spring runs. The Momentum was built for comfort and temperature regulation. When you start to heat up the Momentum’s ¼ zip collar opens to let air in, and the shell wicks moisture away. Carbon from bamboo technology keeps odor out of the picture, and an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) of 30 means you won’t have to worry about sun exposure on long runs.
Bottom Line: Don’t worry about the thermometer, get outside.
I got this shirt a few weeks ago and it has become a new favorite of mine for lounging around in... but because I didn't buy it for that purpose, I took it out on a couple evenings for some runs. Granted, I'm not a great runner, but I sure did look good while I was slugging out my miles. The fit is great, athletic but not body hugging. The fleece lining was appropriately described by "Rocky Mountain Goat" in that it is a bit more than a micro-fleece and definitely keeps you warm. My only peeve with this shirt so far is that across the chest (on the inside of the shirt), it has more of a mesh-type backing than just the plain fleece and can begin to rub you raw a bit as you begin to sweat (if you're wearing it without something underneath). Here's the rub (pardon the pun), the shirt is so warm that you'd probably have to be out jogging in freezing temps to be able to tolerate the warmth of this and another shirt underneath. However, stick a couple Band-Aids on your man-mammories before you hit the trails and you'll never be happier! On a more positive note, the 1/4 zip is almost a 1/2 zip... opens up wide to dump the heat, and if that doesn't keep you cool, the shirt seems to squeegee the sweat right off of you! I'm 6'0" and 170lbs, and the Large was a great fit... and with the Monkey Thumbs, all of you guys with those goofy-long arms (like mine) will have nothing to worry about in the sleeve lenght department. Time to quit reading reviews... buy this shirt and hit the trails... you'll love it.
I am 6'0" 175 lb and the medium fits great. I wear a medium in most all my North Face gear. The front zipper is quite long so it helps maintain a good temperature. The mesh on the sides and in arms help ventilate during activity. I have the TKA Glacier 1/4 zip fleece. The Momentum is warmer. The extra length in back helps keep drafts out. Wicks awesome. So comformatable you will find yourself wearing it all the time.
This one is pretty much the same, but for a woman: http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/The-North-Face-Impulse-1-4-Zip-Top-Long-Sleeve-Womens/TNF2599M.html

The fleece lining makes it so warm that for the kind of hiking and skiing we do here in Western Washington you really need a thin wicking layer on your skin. Runs a little large. Well constructed.
I bought this a couple of months ago and have used it now at least 2 times per week on my runs and several hikes. I'm 5'9" and 167 and the medium fits just right. First, I love the zip chest pocket...perfect for carrying some cash or credit card/ID. This thing fits very well and movement is natural without bunching. Sometimes on longer runs I have problems with my arm pits rubbing a little raw with tigher fit clothing but not with this. This is also very warm. I went running in about 50 degree weather and it was hot...the 1/4 zipper is very nice to vent. I went running in about 24 degree weather just recently and wore my Arc'Teryx seeker comp shell...it was almost too warm when I got going. The inside of this shirt is fleece like (I would say definitely more fleece like than micro-fleece...almost between light and mid loft fleece). I actually intend to use it as a heavy base or light midlayer when I go snowboarding or winter camping. Some people hate thumploops but I love them for running and snowboarding...it prevent the shirt from riding up and makes for a more tighter, sleek fit. The shirt also has some nice reflective trim that looks cool. I would have given this 5 stars but I wish the neck was tighter. When I zip all the way up, its not quite snug tight so I can imagine some wind getting in. This thing is not very wind resistant but breaths like crazy...
Great cool weather over shirt. I'm 6'0ft 180 lbs got a large and fits perfect. The monkey grips are a awesome feature. The North Face does it again for another great product, I highly suggest you pick one up.
Just got this shirt and it's now my new favorite. I don't wear it as a base-layer per say, but as my second layer. It's very warm and moves with your arms/torso. I'm usually not a fan of the thumb hole but with this material it works perfectly. I mainly use this shirt for working on the mountain and skiing in my free time. Awesome shirt, definitely recommend.
I bought this for a base layer to wear under a jacket for riding my motorcycle, running and under a ballistic vest. The fit is true, very warm and weighs almost nothing. It wicks away moisture very well. To combat the chaffing of the mesh on the inside by the zipper I wear a under armour heat gear athletic fitting shirt. Truly a great shirt.
I've always been pleased with North Face products and this did not disappoint. It is light enough that you hardly can tell you are wearing it but does a good job in th 40-70C range of keeping you warm. Absolutely love the thumb hole on the sleeve and wish other companies and North Face made more like it.
I got this because it looked like a good mountain biking shirt for cooler days, but I wear it all the time! I even bought a second one exactly the same I liked it so much. Super comfortable, warm, versatile and durable. Fits great and looks good! Get one (or two)!
