The North Face made the Men’s Momentum Fleece Jacket with lightweight TKA Superstretch fleece fabric so you can layer it up in extreme weather or wear it alone for aerobic use. This 100-weight fleece provides excellent insulation and mobility for cold winter runs, XC skiing, or snowshoeing. The athletic cut fits well under a shell for backcountry skiing or winter climbing trips.
Bottom Line: Lightweight, mobile, and versatile insulation.
I like this jacket because I feel instantley warm when I put it on. And for extreme cold as an extra layer you will be toasty warm.It has a good athletic fit! I remember the old fleece jackets were bulky and very heavy to carry around. Not this fleece it is half the weight! You need a thin jacket over top if it is a windy day!
I really love this jacket and definately suggest it. It's definately a lightweight jacket, but its extremely warm considering how thin it is. Its not bulky, very sleek. Its not waterproof, yet it sheds water pretty well. It has a great athletic fit, a little snug. Dont go by their sizing chart. Just order your typical size. Oh, and there are no monkey thumbs on this model, despite what the picture shows... Its called a fleece, but it isnt really. The exterior is smooth while the inside has yor typical fleece.
I find myself in-between sizes L and XL (I am 6ft and just under 200lbs). I tried the Momentum jacket on in a store recently. The L just fits. The XL has some room and the sleeves are a little on the long side. I plan on wearing it as an outer layer. The last TNF fleece I bought was the Scythe jacket. Same deal, sleeves were a little on the long side. I heard that up until recently, TNF used to offer a Long size. Now they don't and they incorporate a Long size into the XL size. That stinks for my sizing. Which size would you suggest?

Love this jacket as it is light and has great athletic fit. Wore is over my short sleeve tee during my trip to Seoul, Korea in late September, able to keep me warm against cold wind in 10 to 15 degree celsius outdoor when I was walking around exploring this beautiful city.
...i went with a small rather than my usual medium (6'1", 165lbs) i think because i read if you wanted that athletic fit it's best to size down um, it's not. don't size down. the small was quite small. i'm hoping the medium will be significantly longer in the torso and arms. like others have said, there are NO monkey holes, as it is pictured. other than these issues, i'm pleased with the jacket. it seems like it will be the perfect mid layer i've been searching for.
It's basically a measure of the insulating capacity and water vapor (sweat) permeability of a fleece. Fleece jackets usually come in a range from 100- to 300-weight. 100-weight is good for staying warm during high aerobic activities (like running or cross-country skiing) in the spring and fall.
I found the perfect performance geared outerlayer/midlayer in the North Face Momentum fleece! The tailoring is very athletic in terms of cut and movement, the TKA 100 fleece has just enough elasticity in the fabric to stretch and move with me while out on trail runs (my intended purpose in buying the jacket). The warmth to weight ratio is perfect for cool to cold conditions (50F-20F), depending on how you supplement the jacket. I've used the Momentum jacket and a short sleeve Patagonia Capilene 1 shirt for cold morning trail runs around 32F and found the Momentum jacket to move moisture quickly and insulate efficiently even after the sweat starts flowing. I'm 5'11" and about 155-160lbs. and purchased a small, I ordered it small knowing that I would use it as a midlayer primarily, the fit is spot on for running, climbing, backpacking etc., no excess fabric or bunching, it feels more like a great fitting longsleeve shirt than a jacket. I believe this jacket was meant to be purchased snug, so I would recommend leaning towards a snug fit or even going down in size as the Superstretch fabric does exactly that, stretch and conform, without feeling or looking UnderArmourish. The men's size small for me provided just the right amount of room for a longsleeve merino wool baselayer underneath without feeling too tight or compressing. The only downside to this jacket is in fact the jacket DOES NOT HAVE THUMBHOLES as it shows in the picture, just get yourself a great baselayer with thumbholes and you're set. If you plan on doing any kind of full body activity in cool/cold weather this is a great piece of gear that you'll find a home for in your kit without a hitch.
Ive had this jacket for almost 2 years and it serves its purpose really well. It's quite light and the stretch fabric gives you great flexibility and mobility for almost any activities. I use it on hikes and I use it on cold days going to work. It offers moderate water resistance and when its really pouring, you can just throw in an outer shell layering and youll be able to handle just about anything. The monkey thumbs are also a great addition so the sleeves wont hike-up your arms, especially when youre sleeping with it on.
Wondering about the color. Citronelle green looks more like a drab yellow in the pic, which is what I want. Is the color in the pic pretty accurate, or is it more of a neon green?
Ordered it and just got it in. I really liked the fabric esp. the anti-chaff collar but it's just too short. The sleeves were nice and long but the bottom came nearly up to my navel. TNF - Good material, great design, bad execution.
I bought this jacket for my boyfriend as a gift thinking it would be a good all around jacket (both to run in and wear casually from other reviews). It looks like athletic fit in the pictures, but it is not. The M jacket was way too small for a 5'11" 180 lb guy who normally wears S and M, and the sleeves have a wierd construction which is tight around the uppper arm/shoulder region but loose around the elbows. The jacket was also too short even on me (5'9"). My final complaint with the jacket was the sleeve cuff which just ends with a small piece of fabric sewn aroung the open seam. This makes the cuff stiff and uncomfortable while letting cold air seep inside. I expected more from The North Face. This thought process behind the construction of this jacket is just sloopy.
Anyone know which design year this is? I really want an 07 model, though its not available. Tried on a friend's and loved it! I'm sure the 08 and 09 are the same, just wondering if this jacket has the monkey thumbs or not?
I had a volt soft shell for a couple of years before I managed to forget it in a lecture hall at my university. Needless to say, I never saw it again. That being said, I'm looking to replace it. I was definately satisfied with it, but I've also been eyeing the pneumatic and the momentum. Any comments could swing which one I get. Fall is pretty much here now and I'm finding myself without my "old faithful" jacket to fall back on. Help!
Bummer you lost your volt, here is my two cents. If you are looking for almost and exact replacement of the volt go with the nimble jacket, if you are looking for something a little more fleecy with less wind and weather protection than the volt the momentum is great and probably the better layering piece, the pneumatic is heavier than the volt and will offer better wind and weather protection than your volt.
I would go with the XL if you are not planning on wearing it while layering. It has an athletic fit. I wear a large and after a few washes it is actually a little small but still perfect for layering.
This is my very first North Face purchase, and I was very pleased of the quality and the fit. For those that want a light jacket that's fitted, this is for you. Great as a layering piece. I bought the Asphalt Gray/Black, and was very happy of the the color accuracy of what I saw on my computer screen and when I received the product. Just wished it came with a hood, oh well, guess I will be ordering more North Face Jackets!
Best microfleece for under $100. I bought the 06 - 07 model with monkey thumbs and I feel so lucky to have it. In fact, I love it so much, I was looking for a backup and found out that the newer models don't have the monkey thumbs anymore - so I contacted TNF to let them know that they need to bring them back!
I've had this jacket for about a week now, and although initially I did not know if it was going to be warm enough, now I'm glad I didn't get a heavier fleece. 100 weight seems to be heavy enough.
Today I went out on a run and it was 22 degrees with a RealFeel index of 12 degrees. I had on a pair of running shorts, a t-shirt w/ DeFeet ArmSkins, a 4 ounce weight hoodie and a beanie and gloves. This jacket was plenty warm, I almost had to take it off because I was starting to get too warm. I've gone out when it's been this cold without the base layers and it still was plenty warm.
I think the cut is great, especially the arms, they allow great freedom of movement. I do think it wouldn't have hurt if it was about 1-2 inches longer, but even so, it still comes down past my waist.
The 3 pockets both on the sides and chest all come handy, which is usually something that seems only to be found on heavier weight jackets.
Of course as all others have said there are no monkey finger holes, which I didn't find disappointing at all.
I'm between 5'7" and 5'8" and < 120 pounds and a size small fits perfectly. Any taller and I think it would be too short for me.
I was on the fence about this jacket, but I needed something quick and so far I feel this was a very good choice.
I live in the southeast so I wanted a light coat, this one is surprisingly warm for how thin it is! The stretchy 100 weight fleece is really very comfortable. I'm not one to like bulky coats, so the fit was just what i was looking for. I'm about 5'11" and 155 lbs and the medium fit great. The length was about an inch bellow my waist, the sleeves we're plenty long which is unusual for me to find. The sleeves were a little tight on my forearms, but other than that a perfect athletic fit. Also, its surprisingly wind resistant. No complaits for a cool weather coat, or even as a wind layer on a motorcycle!
Warm! I've been extremely cosy in this jacket, only thing I was disappointed when I received a mid-shipment order without the monkey thumbs. Customer service was more than willing to return it.
You will not be disappointed when you purchase this fleece jacket.
Haven't had a chance to really use it yet, but I've tried it on and it fits great and is extremely comfortable. It has 3 zippered pockets, so it's good for holding your stuff and it stretches when you move. Perfect for activities. I plan on using it on my commute as a light jacket and as a base layer for snowboarding.
As someone that tends to heat up quickly during physical activity, I was looking for a light spring jacket that would cut the chill when I left my apartment in the morning, but not cook me as I walked to work. This does the job perfectly. It's kept me warm down to 40 degrees (I haven't tried it in anything colder) and never ever leaves me damp. Put a hard shell over it, and you can handle almost any weather.
The fit is slim in the forearms which is odd at first, but I quickly got used to it. I'm 6'1" 185 lbs and the Large is a loose but good fit around my torso. The arms are long, but that's to be expected in a monkey-thumbed jacket.
I highly recommend it both as a light spring jacket and a super-warm midlayer.
This jacket it great for running, and it stands up to any conditions. I love running, and here in Wisconsin you have to put up with what you get. Rain, sleet, cold, or just windy this is a great layer to throw on when you're outside in the elements. I wear it all spring and fall, can't leave the house without it. Not a fan of coats you can swim in, so this was perfect. It's a close fit, but does stretch if you need to layer. Only downfall: I've had mine for about 2 years and my monkey thumbs are starting to fray... other than that, its a great jacket.
I like this jacket because I feel instantley warm when I put it on. And for extreme cold as an extra layer you will be toasty warm.It has a good athletic more...
I really love this jacket and definately suggest it. It's definately a lightweight jacket, but its extremely warm considering how thin it is. Its more...
