Your laptop is your office, entertainment center, and favorite toy all rolled into one, so you want to have it handy at all times. The North Face Modem Backpack keeps your 17-inch rectangular baby in a suspended sleeve and holds your other stuff to boot. A front organizer pocket keeps your important stuff ready for quick draw, and the side mesh pockets handle your water bottles. A removable waist-belt helps with carrying your load comfortably, and the stitched back panel includes air channels to lessen your chances of getting a sweaty back.

Bottom Line: The North Face Modem Backpack—way sleeker than 56K.

I bought this because it was cheap. It worked, just wasn't great. It has one huge pocket that's got way too much vertical room and not enough horizantally. I would have to stack books on top of other books. The waste straps are just an annoyance bc they don't help but don't tuck away either.

Not a bad bag, just not for me and seems like it could be better

It's not waterproof because like most packs it is not cost effective to seam seal, but the pack material itself is coated and waterproof. I don't know of any waterproof computer bags out there, but I personally would not worry about enough water getting through the seams on a pack to do damage unexpectedly. You would have to be out in a storm for quite a while before this would really be an issue.

Great pack!

Got this in a couple days ago and am exceedingly happy with it! I don't know what happened to some of the packs reviewed here, but my Modem pack has plenty of interior pockets to keep everything organized, the computer sleeve is very secure, and it has a pair of exterior drink pockets. The straps are thick and distribute a significant load well. This pack isn't the largest by any means but then that wasn't what I was going for.

I got the white specifically because I ride a motorcycle and wanted something as visible as possible and this is VERY reflective... no one'll be able to come up from behind and claim they didn't see me!

Not for most women

This is a nice bag, seems very well made. The design is a little different than most, feeling more like a bag with a zipper around the lid area than the traditional backpack. The organizer pocket looks awesome and the bag seems like it would hold up as well as anything else I've had. The problem is I bought this for my wife and it's way too tall. She is on the short side, but I tried it on around the house and the way the straps are set up, it feels much taller than average to me as well (6'1"). If you're tall and/or have a long torso, it would probably be a great bag for you. Since it was for my wife (I would have kept it except I already have too many backpacks), it got returned.

There should be something about the size in the description somewhere, but there's not.

If your laptop does not exceed 17" it will work. Depending on how many & what clothes you what to pack could be a problem.
