The North Face Metropolis Parka - Women's - 2006 BCS

Warm, great fit, have already gotten compliments. Definitely size down.

Stylish and lightweight jacket for city use. I bought it in the Gold color, it looks great for evening and daytime. But this is NOT a technical jacket.

I love this jacket for SF, it's perfect for temp down to 47F and I wear it everyday to work. But when I wear it in colder climates (Wyoming or Washington or NYC), I have to wear another layer or two underneath (ideally windproof fleece or down vest).

The main reason is that this jacket's material is NOT windproof, so the cold air does pass through the down even though it's 600 fill power. Also, there is no inside cuff around the sleeves, so cold air does come up the arms.

Also, the outside fabric while water resistant, is NOT waterproof, so the down inside can get wet through the seems if you wear it in heavy rain.

As for sizing/fit, I'm 5'8" and a size 4-6 and bought both Small and Medium to try, and ended up keeping the Medium. While the small fits well around the body, the sleeves were a tad short and it doesn't leave a lot of room for extra layers underneath. The Medium is a little puffier around the body but much more practical when I wear a layer of fleece underneath.

I was surprised that this jacket was not warmer due to the 600 fill power as I have a Mountain Hardware hip length parka with 600 fill power that is much warmer, but the MH one is waterproof and made with technical fabric while this Northface parka is really more a fashion item. But that said, I love the color of this jacket, it's light and it looks great around town, I get lots of compliments when I wear it.

I have this parka and it's a lovely piece. I've worn it for about 5 months now and washed it yesterday for the first time. It still looks great! It makes a great raincoat because of the hood and is very warm but will not make you sweat or anything... It has a nice silky feel on the inside. It's a great length, is very flattering and goes with everything I wear, casual or dressy. This was a great investment and I would recommend the Metropolis Parka to anyone! I'm 5'9, 160 and have a Large that fits perfectly, by the way- in case anyone needs sizing help. :)

If there were a 3.5 I'd give this coat that. I thought it would be super warm and read some reviews of people who were cold. I thought they might be crazy but they are not. On days when it's sunny, a little windy and 20s or 30s, I'm chilly in this coat. I got it so that I could play outside with my 2 yr old as long as he, but mommy wants to go in after 40 minutes. Tiny pieces of down come out too. I am buying a Smartwool piece to wear under it. I am a cold person in general...the typical hands and feet are always freezing, so if you are like that, this is not the warmest coat. I almost bought the other long North Face with fur trim which is much much warmer but this coat was so much more comfortable. It's cute and comfortable and I do like it but I need more underneath to do the job in Wisconsin.

Love this coat. So light and unrestrictive that you don't even know you're wearing it. Except for the fact that is is nice and warm. Very sleek and stylish looking -- no marshmallow puffer here. Brownie is a lovely color. Hood is great and not dorky looking. Very happy with this coat!

I like this coat but wish it had more fill than 600 their has been times when I feel the air go though, so you may have to wear layers at times,it is very easy to move around in,the two way zipper is a good touch

I orderd this coat thinking I'll give myself room for sweaters but it was too roomy. If your not sure (like I was) you might just be a small. I am busty so I thought Medium was best, but trust the small.

I love this coat. It's one of the best winter coats ever. Very warm. I have only positive things to say about it, with the exception of the zipper. It is hard as heck to zip. Unzip - no problem. I do hope that the zipper doesn't end up breaking on me! Otherwise, 5 stars!!!

Comfortable, soft, warm, and stylish. I love that it is super light in weight and that it has a detachable hood, as well as pockets that zip shut. The front both zips and snaps so it seals up well. I think this is the most comfortable winter coat I've ever owned. The size runs true.
I wish it came in more colors, so I could get one for my daughter that isn't exactly like mine.

I purchased this jacket in black. I absolutely Love it! We've had a long, cold winter here in Michigan and this jacket is the warmest! I have not been cold in it at all, if anything, I get too warm, and I wear nothing underneath but a regular top. I have been searching every where to purchase another one in brown. This was well worth every penny it cost and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

This jacket was one of the best investments I could have made in a winter coat. Super warm but not bulky. I ordered the silver color and it is gorgeous. Not obnoxiously shiny at all. Cozy warm on below zero windy Wisconsin winter days!

I bought the Black Medium coat, and wore it for the first time to a softball game where I sat, and paced for 3 hours in 32 degree weather. The coat kept me 100% warm. It does run big and I want to get the small for that reason but overall I expect it to do the job this winter in New York.

I bought a white one in The North Face shop on Michigan Avenue because they'd run out of black ones. Then I decided to order a black one here and return the white one. However, I love this jacket so much that I ended up keeping both! That may be a little extravagant but I feel the Parka is good value for money. It's very stylish, keeps me warm on the coldest days, fits perfectly and I love the hood too. Excellent product!

I love this coat and will wear it for years to come. It's thin and warm and has a nice modern fit so it doesn't look like a frumpy puffy coat. I recommend this to anyone who wants to be comfortable and warm in the cold.

North Face metropolis Parka is amazing. I purchased a silver one, I look great in it and it is so warm. It's so cold in Toronto (-25C) that I needed something warm to wait for the bus in the morning. I put this coat on with a light scarf and a light sweater and jacket and I am super warm.

I originally purchased the TNF Allure Down Coat and returned it for the metropolis parka. I tested it this weekend in NYC....and can I say perfect. The length is great.....covers your butt. I ordered an XS and usually wear a Small or Medium. So, I'd order smaller. I'm taking a trip to China and that is the main reason I bought this coat. Warm but packs well and is light! I LOVE it.

This jacket is amazing for the winter! The fit is true to size. It keeps you warm, cozy and dry. If you zip it up all the way you don't need a scarf. Winters in Michigan can be brutal, this jacket helps get you through it.

This is an all around great jacket. The hood stays flat and out of the way when it is not up. The jacket is blissfully warm against the cold windy weather in New Hampshire and it is very easy to wear. The sizing does run larger in this cut. I am usually a size small in regular jackets, but I took an extra small in this one.

Super nice parka! It has the wonderful feel of a down parka but is not as bulky as some. Even though it isn't bulky it is very warm and cozy. The parka also has a nicely tailored cut and the material has a soft silky feel to it. All in all it's a winner!

This coat is super warm and often times only wear a tee shirt underneath. I live in Michigan and do alot of walking to class in very cold temperatures and keeps me nice and warm. The one thing about this coat is you should go down a size than you normally wear, other north face products I have are a womens Small yet the small in this coat was WAY to big, the extra small fits perfect with plenty of room to layer with sweatshirts if needed! So if you are kind of on the edge go down a size to get a better fit :)

It's exactly what I wanted. Not too bulky or long and I bought it in GOLD, so it looks a little different than the usual black or brown.
As other reviewers mentioned, I don't think it would be warm enough in extremely cold weather unless worn with a couple of layers beneath. Fine for me, since I live in North Carolina and will only wear it in 35 degree weather or in NYC when visiting.

I bought it for my wife for Christmas and she loves it! She gets numerous compliments on it as well. It is warm and looks great. Hopefully I won't have to buy another one, but I would if it came down to it!

as a jersey native moving to Chicago was quite a temperature shock. this parka totally saved me. the only cold part of my body when I'm wearing this coat is my legs. it's comfy, cozy, and has great pockets. (the inside pocket is great for an iPod) the hood is great and i love the brownie! (friends have black and white and they're gorgeous too)

i recently purchased this down coat and it is amazing! it's warm enough so that all you need underneath is a light layer. it's comfortable and roomie. it has a perfect inside pocket for an iPod. it has fluffy lining on the neck, cuffs, and pockets to keep you extra farm. it's my first north face purchase and i am very pleased!

This is the warmest, sexiest jacket I've ever owned. I get compliments and looks all the time. Stylish and functional. Highly satisfied. I like mine form fitting, and although I'm normally a small, I got an extra-small and it's perfect.

I can't say enough good things about this coat. It's stylish, sleek and warm. Although, I don't know if it's warm enough for Russia as one other reviewer says it is. I am a true size 4 and it fits me perfectly with enough room for a heavy sweater underneath. I get a lot of compliments.

I have to say this may be the best coat for chilly Maine winters. Its just long enough from my short 5'4" build and best fits my frame!! I love it because it isn't bulky and is super warm. I can't wait to use it again and again this long winter in Portland, Maine. You must purchase this coat, especially in the brown, BEAUTIFUL!!!

I purchased the metropolis parka with hopes of keeping warm while on the sidelines of soccer, football, and field hockey games. I am thin and get cold easily, and this parka DID NOT keep me warm when it was a little windy and cold and I was standing outside for 2 hours. I was very disappointed in the outer layer as a wind protector. I did not return it because I use it now for not-so-cold game days, or when I need a hood for light rain (we all know you can't wear down in the rain). I also don't like seeing the coat on every mom in my neighborhood.

It's stylish and sleek- but what I don't love is being cold wearing it- and so far I've owned it 2 days and been cold every day while wearing it. The wind gets through the weave of the coat. And when I'm driving in my car- as I rest my arm on my door, I can feel the cold through my coat. That doesn't happen with any other jacket I own. Though I like the look and certainly the brand, I am wholly unimpressed with this coat. it should be A LOT warmer than it is. I am going to give it another few days and if I don't warm up then it's going back to the store. Too bad, it's so pretty.

This is the best coat I´ve ever had,it hugs me like a sleeping bag, sooo warm and soft, perfect for the weather here in Iceland,also it can be worn with most outfits,wore it with a skirt and boots the other day and got SO many complements, I,m already thinking of a short one for my hiking trips.
I´m hooked now, on North Face, for sure.

I had to return the Metropolis Parka due to size and colour. Midnight Ivory turned out to be a light grey colour which washes me out. Also, the small was too big...I had not been sure about picking extra small or small...I was on the edge of both for most measurements but even with a light to medium sweater underneath the extra small likely would've fit.

Brought this for my wife she loves it ,only took 4 days to recive it we live in New Zealand. Chat now very good, highly recommend for those who like to wear some thing stylish and stay warm

The North Face Metropolis Parka that I purchased in January is absolutely WONDERFUL! This coat keeps me so warm. Temperatures in my area have been in the teens and twenties, so I need the protection from the elements. My family swears by The North Face!

I have been wanting this coat since last season but didn't want to fork over the cash for it. I finally did, and I am SO glad I did. This coat is perfect for the frigid Syracuse winters. I especially love the soft inside of the collar. Also, it is not bulky and even has a slimming effect (strange for a down coat)! This also fits true to size. Get this coat, don't wait like I did. You will love it!

Love it! I was a little concerned about the price but it is worth every penny! The parka not only zips, but also buttons. It has a detachable hood. The fit is true to size. This Parka is stylish yet functional.

I love this parka but wish that it was 700 fill rather than 600. My boyfriend has a Northface parka with the 700 and it's definitely warmer than mine.

Went on a trip to London, and it was perfect for walking all around in the brisk weather. Only problem is once you get indoors can become hard to deal with because of the size.

Eight days before Christmas my 23 year old stepdaughter told her father that she wanted a “long white warm winter coat with a hood” for Christmas. Yikes! Where was I going to find such a coat on such short notice? I immediately went online and did a search for “white down coat.”
The size small coat fit my stepdaughter perfectly and she just loved it!! I think she was a little astonished that I was able to pull it off! Next time I need outdoor gear I will come here first!!

Overall good quality, though the down tends to loft out of the seams periodically. I think the price is a bit steep for the quality.

I adore this coat! It is quite warm, but so light weight and comfortable. I feel like I am in a soft sleeping bag and don't want to take the coat off. Plus, the shape and fit is slim, so you don't feel like a dough boy. The size is true as well.

This is silky soft to the touch, lightweight, easily packable, yet extremely warm against frigid temperatures. Better than any other coat I own (including my fur). This is simply THE BEST!

I cannot say enough amazing things about this coat. It’s the perfect length, weight, warmth, style for cold days commuting through the city. It can be worn with skirts, jeans, client meetings, and weekends! I have tried to order this coat in all colors but they are hard to find as everyone is sold out!

I love my parka, it is marvelous except I bought it in white. After only a couple of days wear, the cuffs were scruffy and there were a few marks gathering near the bottom of the coat and around the zip. Now, I am not daft enough to think that it wouldn't attract more dirt than a black or brown parka, but I was surprised at how quickly the dirt was evident! So this parka is stylish without making you look enormous (and for a puffa style, that’s quite impressive!) and very warm but if you buy it in white beware of the mucky cuffs! On the plus side, it washes like a dream!

This parka was purchased as a gift for my daughter. She grew up with cold and snowy winters, yet was unprepared for Boston, and so requested this particular jacket. She loves it! Wore it around the house all holiday (and we're in San Diego!). Comfortable, cozy, I'd say this one's a keeper.

I ordered the Metropolis parka for my daughter, who lives and works in the wilds of Brooklyn, at her request. I was VERY pleasantly surprised upon opening the box when I checked my purchase! What a beautifully made parka. The zipper, snaps, seams, and pockets are all of the highest quality and workmanship!

Wonderful, stylish, warm coat that washes well but you have to re-fluff it after drying. The only bad feature is that it's hard to engage the zipper.

I've been looking for a longer down parka for a long time and thought this was the answer to my search. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me so I returned it: it didn't look good on me and it also felt a bit snug over all my layers of clothes.

Great mid-length coat I purchased for my wife. It’s lightweight and perfect for extreme cold here in Chicago. It’s designed well so she can get in and out of the car without bunching up or binding on her while she drives. Thin enough to easily manage seatbelts. Great for people with chronic pain as its light and doesn't bind and is curved well around shoulders so as not to dig into neck or in armpit.

Used in -9F Chicago windy weather on EL platforms. A+

CON: Material stains easily and more pockets would be great. 5* stars all around.

Even though I live in South Florida, I travel for business every week, often to cold climates. Someone told me about this fabulous The North Face Metropolis parka, and it has been great. It was so easy to order online from here, right from my hotel room. It is everything you'd expect from outer wear, plus its stylish and looks great. It’s lightweight and comfortable and impervious to the effects of being crunched up and jammed into an airplane overhead storage. This longer length jacket turns heads whether I'm on the streets of Manhattan or Minneapolis. Meanwhile, I'm totally warm and cozy inside of it. Ladies, if you haven't considered a down parka for fear of looking like the Michelin Man, this is the coat for you.

I love this parka! I had ordered this parka and another that looked similar from LL Bean, and I wasn't sure which one I'd like best, this one won hands down. The silhouette on it is very slimming, but at the same time it's so comfy. It's really warm, but not at all bulky --I don't know how they do that. Plus it's machine washable! No more waiting for the dry cleaners. I got three different compliments on the first day I wore it. I'm pretty tall so it fits perfectly, I wouldn't recommend it for a short person though because it would make you look shorter. The only thing I would improve is to include one of those self-concealing zippers for when I'm not using the hood. My favorite parka ever!

This parka is simply fantastic! Great length, very light and warm as can be. The hood is comfortable with or without a hat and keeps my whole head warm even on windy days. It's not a bulky parka and doesn't get in the way or limit my movement. It's so warm I wear it with just a t-shirt underneath even on cold days! (there's room for a sweater too if required). It's great for walks, for shopping trips or simply driving to work. I wouldn't wear it for any occasion where it might have to stand up to lots of wear as the outer fabric, although very soft and light, wouldn't stand up to a lot of abrasion. The pockets are perfectly placed at the waist and are comfortably lined in a soft material, as are the cuffs and the collar. I've been looking for a longer length jacket for a while now and I'm very happy with my choice and would buy this parka again. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to keep warm this winter!

I purchased this coat just before the deep freeze in the midwest. Thank God! Since I received the jacket we've had two weeks of temperatures below zero. They didn't effect me! Style, cute! Fit, cute! Warmth, cute! I am a 4-6 and purchased a small. The size was perfect.

Bought this coat about a month ago. It is the best coat I ever bought. It is so warm and waterproof... very important for Ireland!

Awesome jacket. It's warm, versatile and functional. I walked my dogs wearing it the other day and you can unzip it from the bottom for more leg movement. You can also wear it shopping, doing errands, etc. Beyond the jacket, you folks were so accommodating and helpful. I order loads of stuff on-line and this was by far the most professional group I have dealt with. Right up there with the boys from Vineyard Vines (ha, ha.) Thanks for the great service and products and yes, I was 'stoked.'

This jacket would have been perfect for COLD Upstate New York, (I mean the real Upstate New York which is actually Central New York, not an hour north of NYC)but the zipper was very weak. Even though this is a woman's jacket it should not have a flimsy plastic zipper that would not last. Sorry, I would have expected more from TNF, especially for the price.

This jacket is amazing for many reasons. I wear it all the time! the pockets are huge so I can keep my wallet, phone and keys in my pockets (no need for a purse all the time). It is a nice down jacket that doesn't "leak" feathers like some jacket do. Its really easy to clean and the inside material is very soft around the cuffs. Its also not overly bulky so you don't appear like a black marshmallow! Best investment this winter!

I live in NC and none of The North Face dealers in my area sold this coat. Being that I'm cold natured I felt I could not go on without it! I'm glad I got it as we've had some cold days lately and I have to say it was money well spent. The coat keeps you nice and warm w/out a lot of bulk. I know this will be a favorite coat for many winters to come.

This parka has been one of the very best purchases I have ever made. Moving to a new loft dictated I needed to walk my dog more, and the coats I had were not warm enough to keep me comfortable. Through rain and cold winds, this parka has been a lifesaver! All this, and it is so fashionable, and "cool." It's wonderful. Warm without being heavy or bulky! I love it.

Sad, but the coat is not as warm as I thought it would be. I thought i would be able to just wear the coat with no additional sweater (s) but i was wrong- you need to wear two sweaters to get the warmth from this coat-
Style wise it fits nice but the winters here in NYC can be brutal.

Warm, stylish, and everything you would expect from a North Face jacket. Especially like the lined pockets and collar. Highly recommend for city folks in humid, cold environments, i.e Chicago or Madison, WI.
