    Overall

I got this for my younger sister, she goes to school in the Northeast and loves wearing this on her commute to class. She says its true to size, she normally wears mediums and she had no sizing issues with ordering this in the medium.

      great style with warmth

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

i bought this coat for my daughter to wear in college walking around a cold windy campus. it is light weight and very warm.erfect fit and just long enough

It is exactly what I was looking for

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: medium

I wanted a longer, warm jacket. This was perfect, it's very warm and flattering. The sleeves are a little short and the hood is too. It fits correctly everywhere else. I would recommend this jacket.

      true to size

I was debating what size to order and ended up trying both a medium and a large out of fear that the one color I liked would sell out. The medium was fine for me, and I am normally a size 8. 36B, but by no means skinny. I usually feel smothered by coats that are too tight in the shoulders. I tried it on three times with two different, bulky sweaters and then a blazer and I could move my shoulders just fine. I also tried the large on and it was only slightly larger than the medium and did not make me look like a giant marshmallow. Silver has a gorgeous lining with birch trees printed inside. Very warm, even in our very cold February here in the northeast, because it has extra features to keep out the cold. For my budget, I had to get this on clearance and plan to keep it forever, but it is a great winter coat.

      The fit is perfectly fine!

I ordered a size small based on the size chart and reviews even though I often wear x-small in my clothes and coats. I now wish I had ordered the x-small. I find the fit to be true to size with room to spare even wearing a sweatshirt underneath. It is not slim fitting, but nips in slightly at the waist. I can see size being an issue if you have a large chest, otherwise, you should order the size you normally would. Nice looking coat that does very well in below freezing weather we are getting in NYC right now and surprisingly lightweight. My only issue with the coat is the crunchy, plasticky fabric. I realize this probably helps keep the coat water resistant, but I really didn't like the look or feel of it so I am returning it for that reason.

      Not the same:(

I have to agree with mostly everyone else. North Face really dropped the ball with this version of their Metro Parka. All I wanted was to replace the black one with grey lining that I bought about 5-6 years ago since I have worn it to the ground. The jacket I received yesterday is nothing like the older version. The overall quality has gone way down. I ordered a size up per the other reviews eventhough I've comfortably wore a medium in my older metro parka. It seemed necessary when I got the coat yet the jacket looks so frumpy on. I'm really disappointed in North Face considering the original value of this jacket is the same as the original value of the older model but with far less quality. . One Star is for Back Country who delivered the product quickly and efficiently:)

      Terrific!

Just received my jacket and am thrilled all the way around! First off, YAY Backcountry not only on lightening fast shipping (ordered Sun night, received Tuesday at 4:30 pm) but also on the FANTASTIC sale price! As for the jacket....I hemmed and hawed for weeks, ordered two EB jackets that just didn't do the trick, went back to look at NF again and jumped on it when I found the fantastic deal here. Fits at expected GIVEN the fact that I know NF runs smallish (I usually wear a small but medium gives enough space for layers). Jacket is super comfortable, hits just below my knee (I'm 5'0"), somewhat fitted but not too tight and has some nice features (detachable hood, deep pockets). It's a classic, no frills jacket that I hope to wear until it wears out! Thanks, again, Backcountry for a great buying experience. Won't be my last!

      Not like the older version

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I thought I'd get a second one of these because I loved the first one so much. Alas, not the same anymore. Size was too big, material too scratchy. Returned immediately. One star because I like Backcountry.

Not the same as older models

If you are looking for a replacement for the Metropolis Parka you bought a few years ago, this isn't it. The slimmer, more fitted design cut an inch off the length of the sleeves, and more off the length, and it so constricting in the chest, I can barely lift my arms. I am 6' tall, and athletic 170 pounds, and purchased an XL. The wrist opening of the sleeves also lacks the fleecy lining, and there is no inner chest pocket. Also, the fill, as stated in the description, is 550 instead of 600, and that does make a difference. The Metropolis I purchased in 2009 is far superior, and is still a far better jacket than the new version. I only wanted to replace my old jacket with a new jacket so I could use the old one for farm chores. I also purchased this same jacket for my mother, who is 5'10" and 155 pounds, in XL, and it was too small for her as well. Both are being returned, and the search for a new parka begins.

      Gift for my Sister

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large

My Sister works at a ski resort and is in the snow everyday. She loves this coat. Its not a big puffy jacket that makes you look like square and fits with room to wear layers. Its super warm and she normally wears large

      Almost perfect...

Really LOVE this coat, was excited to get it, opened it up and it smelled like a brothel, had makeup and dog hair on it. The amount of perfume on my coat was gross. The temps just dropped and I really want this coat. Had to use chat to get it exchanged and Rossana was VERY helpful... so I won't give 1 star. Your customer service was great, fast and friendly. Thank you- excited for take two of my new coat.

        Great Parka

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
        • Fit: Runs small

I purchased this for my daughter. She wanted this for more than a year but put off the purchase. The parka looks great on her. It has a flattering fit. It is perfect to wear to work or to throw on to walk the dog. I purchased a size larger than her normal size and it fits great and gives the option of wearing a suit jacket or sweater under the parka. I called to changed the size after ordering online. Customer service was friendly and helpful, I looked at several online stores and Backcountry had the best price by far. I have purchased from Backcountry before and will continue to use Backcountry as my first choice as I research future purchases.

I bought this mainly to walk my dog in the cold winter months. I find myself not resorting back to my other 'winter jacket' as this keeps your full body warm without being overly hot. I'm 5'4 and went with a small and wouldn't have it any other way. It's form fitting and love the Navy Heather color I bought. I get many complements on it! I also wore for a Thanksgiving-Wisconsin Football game, cold, poring rain the entire time and it kept me warm. It is not waterproof but I new that before I ordered it.

        Excellent jacket!

        Very disappointed

I was very disappointed when I received this coat. The material feels cheap and the heather gray looks like a cheap printout of a picture of "heathered" material. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of one because regardless of what I think of the coat, Backcountry is great to deal with!

Perfect for a stroll in the city!

This is a great jacket for casual nights around town. Nice and toasty for a stroll around downtown looking at the Christmas lights with your honey by your side.

Being taller, it's nice to find something that will still hit me in length around mid thigh. It keeps my little bum warm and protected from the elements of the chilly Salt Lake City weather.

i live in a place where we can go to -25C during the winter and need to buy a new parka, is this one warm wnough or do you have any other recommendations??

        Hey Minerva

Not sure that this Parka would do the trick on it's own. However if you were to layer it with a synthetic insulated piece under, it might do the trick. the fill power is only 550 and for temps like that you want at least 700 fill power. If you are open to other brands I would recommend Patagonia or even Canada Goose Down. They are pricey but with temps like that you are going to need something beefier for sure. If you would like some specific recommendations please call or chat in with one of our Gearheads.

        Cheers!

I bought the north face tnf metropolis parka about a week ago. It fits great but the reason I do not give it a 5 is because the filling (feathers) is coming out of every seam and it is covered in white over black and it looks awful. For the price I paid, I don't think it should be doing this. Is it defective? Should I return it?

A few feathers here and there is pretty normal, but what you just said sounds pretty excessive! That does sound like a manufacturer defect. I'd hit up one of our customer service gearheads on live chat or give us a call and we can figure out what to do!!

I bought the same coat not long ago and it is HORRIBLE! I am figuring for almost $400 and the NorthFace brand tat the coat should not be doing this. Everyday I wear it to work, I have feathers all over me when I take my coat off, as well as on the outside coming out of most of the seams/stitching. The area around the collar and around the zipper on the front is wearing and is horrible quality. I am VERY disappointed and someone should stand behind this in my opinion.

I just bought tnf metropolis parka from you. All is fine with shipping etc, but the down is coming out of every seam almost, I have not worn the coat yet and it is covered in white over black and it looks awful. At this rate I might be wearing just the nylon shell at the winters end. What is going on? Will it stop? Is it defective?

        Hey Tamara,

A small amount of down leakage is common in any down piece. However, you should not experience excessive down loss with this jacket or any other quality piece.

If you want to give me a call at 1-800-409-4502 ext 4446 or email at gconner@backcountry.com I would be glad to discuss this further with you and get you taken care of.
