Very disappointed

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:True to size
  • Height: 5'7"
    Weight: 130 lbs
    Size Purchased: medium

I was very disappointed when I received this coat. The material feels cheap and the heather gray looks like a cheap printout of a picture of "heathered" material. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of one because regardless of what I think of the coat, Backcountry is great to deal with!

is this coat machine washable?

Yes. I have even put it in the dryer on air fluff/no heat. I toss in a tennis ball or ball of socks to keep the down from clumping.

Perfect for a stroll in the city!

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size

    Size Purchased: Medium

This is a great jacket for casual nights around town. Nice and toasty for a stroll around downtown looking at the Christmas lights with your honey by your side.

Being taller, it's nice to find something that will still hit me in length around mid thigh. It keeps my little bum warm and protected from the elements of the chilly Salt Lake City weather.

My absolute favorite

  • Gender:Male
  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This coat is probably my most favorite coat of all time. The length is perfect, it is super warm, it fits well and it's sturdy. Anyone wanting a nice, reliable and warm coat, you have to get the Metropolis.

I bought this coat for the harsh winter weather. Let me just say, that this parka is FANTASTIC! It's like wearing a big, warm goose down comforter! It's lightweight and easy to move around in. I haven't experienced having any feathers fall out. The advice I have is to order a size up because it runs a little small. I wouldn't have any other parka out there!

i live in a place where we can go to -25C during the winter and need to buy a new parka, is this one warm wnough or do you have any other recommendations??

    Hey Minerva

Not sure that this Parka would do the trick on it's own. However if you were to layer it with a synthetic insulated piece under, it might do the trick. the fill power is only 550 and for temps like that you want at least 700 fill power. If you are open to other brands I would recommend Patagonia or even Canada Goose Down. They are pricey but with temps like that you are going to need something beefier for sure. If you would like some specific recommendations please call or chat in with one of our Gearheads.

What colour is the lining in the black metropolis down parka? Also what length is it from the neck to hem?

Warm coat and the perfect size.

Great coat, great price, great seller!

The coat comfortable as advertised! Additionally, the seller was proactive in communicating the condition and shipment of the coat.

      This amazing coat fits well

Had to search online at end of season to find this coat. None of the local stores had it. It was worth it. Very good fit in the shoulders and the down is just filled enough to be very warm but not overly bulky.

      Unanswered Question

Is their an on line outlet for northface?

      HORRIBLE Quality

      • Gender:Female
      • Fit:Runs small

I bought this coat based on the North Face brand and known quality, well this one is not like others I have had in the past. I have feathers coming out of every seam/stitched area on the outside, as well as the inside. I spend my whole day picking feathers off my clothes at work. It is VERY annoying especially considering the price I paid for this coat. The coat is really not all that warm and the quality is just not there at all. The collar area and the zipper area after wearing it about a month is wearing badly and for almost $400 and the North Face name, I expect more. I had an Eddie Bauer down coat for 3 years that looks better and keeps me warmer and it cost under $200. I will NEVER buy another North Face coat and I feel like someone ought to stand behind my purchase...either Backcountry or North Face. I feel like someone needs to advise me on how to get this item returned for a full refund. I am obviously not the only one with this complaint...

I definitely want to help with this warranty issue. I can handle the warranty process for you, if you haven't reached out to The North Face, already.

I will contact you now, but feel free to contact me directly, as well.

      Buyer's remorse

      • Fit:Runs small

I procrastinated too long and passed the 30 day return period and regret keeping the coat. It does shed feathers as others have said and it's annoying to pick feathers off clothes, furniture, etc. Hopefully it slows down, but I'm not expecting it from what I've experienced so far.

The coat is warm but not for temps in the teens and single digits. It's more fashion than function. I wish I had bought the Patagonia.

I bought the north face tnf metropolis parka about a week ago. It fits great but the reason I do not give it a 5 is because the filling (feathers) is coming out of every seam and it is covered in white over black and it looks awful. For the price I paid, I don't think it should be doing this. Is it defective? Should I return it?

A few feathers here and there is pretty normal, but what you just said sounds pretty excessive! That does sound like a manufacturer defect. I'd hit up one of our customer service gearheads on live chat or give us a call and we can figure out what to do!!

I bought the same coat not long ago and it is HORRIBLE! I am figuring for almost $400 and the NorthFace brand tat the coat should not be doing this. Everyday I wear it to work, I have feathers all over me when I take my coat off, as well as on the outside coming out of most of the seams/stitching. The area around the collar and around the zipper on the front is wearing and is horrible quality. I am VERY disappointed and someone should stand behind this in my opinion.

      Pretty, but too tight

      • Gender:Female
      • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit:Runs small

I wish I coul give give this coat 5 stars but I can't. The description says it is a slimmer fit, but it runs small. I wear a size 8 and it is tight with a cotton blouse only. If I were to put on a sweater I would be like the boy on A Christmas Story! ( Ok maybe that's a stretch) I had to return it. I love the look and the color. It is pretty. I'm not exchanging it because I think the cut is too tight. My search for the perfect warm long down coat continues.
