Meru Paclite Jacket - Men's

When you’re high above the trailhead and a gusher of a storm comes out of nowhere, pull The North Face Meru Paclite Jacket out of your pocket and get waterproof in a zip. Gore-Tex made its waterproof breathable Paclite fabrics for activities where both space and weight are an issue, and where getting wet could mean more than just an uncomfortable afternoon. The North Face used this fabric in the Meru, which is shaped for your active lifestyle on the trail or on the ropes. Vents on the front make sure you don’t get too steamy as you squish your way down the trail to the car, and the hood and hem adjust with drawcords to keep out the sideways rain.

Bottom Line: A poncho has its perks, but it’s no Meru.

I heard the zippers let water into the jacket - Is the jacket equipped with waterproof (or at least water resistant) zippers? How does it hold up in a heavy rain?

The zipper is the only flaw in the Meru Paclite jacket. The Gore Tex shell is tested and true to its word as being 100% waterproof and breathable. First day I purchased the jacket I went for a jog out in a heavy rain storm just to test the new goods. So disappointed! Water resistant.. maybe to a point. Waterproof.. NO! After further examination I held the jacket and zipper up to a light. I have included a picture showing a flashlight held underneath the zipper below. You can see light through the material used for the zipper. No wonder I'm getting a little leakage from the zipper. Who approved this zipper as waterproof! The North Face did not put enough research into their zipper choice. I paid full price expecting to have a 100% waterproof jacket and that's not what I have. I was going to put some Nik Wax or some kind of water sealer on all the zippers but only two days after purchasing the jacket I had another problem. I can't undo the zipper from the bottom of the jacket. I have tried everything under the sun but if I pull any harder I will just damage the jacket. I'm sending the jacket back to The North Face on warranty. Cheap zipper design. I hope The North Face will make improvements for their zippers in the future. Besides the zippers I have only amazing things to say about this jacket. The good thing about TNF is that they do stand behind their product. I will give you an update when I see what they do in regards to the warranty.

the zippers are reverse coil, however lack the urethane coating that makes them water tight. I would be interested to see how they hold up in a downpour.

highly recommended for any adventure...it is super light but also will take a beating without tearing to shreds...named after the iconic peak in the Indian Himalaya called Mt. Meru, the center of the universe in hindu cosmology (i attempted it with conrad anker and jimmy chin in 2008....f***ing epic!!!!)

Have you seen the video of them trying?

There's no way you "attempted" Mt. Meru. First of all, it's not real. Secondly, Mt. Kailash, which is believed to be Mt. Meru is off-limits. You can't climb it's summit. The most you can do is circumambulate the mountain.

This would probably be good for Kilimanjaro if properly layered. Its lightweight and completely waterproof.

This jacket looks like the one for me, but I need to know if

This jacket looks like the one for me, but I need to know if it'll hold up to rains of a Costa Rican cloud forest. Can anyone comment on the waterproofing of this jacket?

But be aware that GoreTex doesn't work anymore if it's hot and humid outside. Then it will actually conduct moisture into your jacket and not out.

It is Gore Tex Paclite, so it is guaranteed to be 100% waterproof. It should be perfect for Costa Rica.
