Description

When the weather bites, get cozy in the Massif.

Before you head out to warm up the sled dogs, put on The North Face Massif Down Jacket and grab a hot cup of coffee. Incredibly warm 700-fill goose down armors you against the arctic chill outside, with the quilted baffle construction keeping the down in place so cold spots don’t develop. The nylon shell’s DWR finish lets you brush off any morning flurries and the in-pocket hem adjusters keep the cold air from creeping in from below. The internal stow pocket allows easy storage when packing for your next expedition, and the Massif zips into compatible jackets (sold separately) when you need a storm-proof outer layer.

What shell is this jacket compatible with?

Responded on

It will fit under any properly sized shell. if you're asking about TNF's zip-in system, the Massif is not a part of that. The Nuptse down jacket will zip in to some of TNF's shells:

Banshee TriClimate™ Jacket
Mt. Guide Jacket
Mt. Light Parka
Mt. Light Jacket
Recon jacket
Trinity Triclimate
Voretex Triclimate

How small does this jacket pack down?
I'm looking for something small enough that I could stuff down into a compressing stuffsack.
I"m not as worried about weight as I am size.

Responded on

This would work well in a compression sack. Down compresses very well.

my husband is 5'9 and 175, should i get him a M or L.. he has the regular 700 jacket in a M?

Responded on

I am 5'9 155lbs to 160lbs....and I wear a medium....If he is comfortable with his other jacket size he should be fine with this one..He is on the cusp of being large with his build.

Responded on

I agree with Mike, I would go Large for his size and that will leave a little room to layer if he wants to.

I JUST GOT THE MASSIF JACKET FOR MY BOYFRIEND AND IT WAS TOO SMALL I GOT HIM A LARGE AND I HAD TO RETURN IT HE IS 6 FOOT AND 190 LBS .. I AM NOW GONNA GET AN XL AND I HOPE THIS FITS.. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW THESE JACKETS RUN ? I THINK THE SIZE CHAT IS NOT ACCURATE AT ALL.

Best Answer Responded on

I am 5'9" and 195-200 pounds and the XL fit me better than the large did. The large was tight in the chest and back area but the sleeves were fine. I think he will be happy with the XL. Hope this helps.

Is the outer shell the thin stuff that feel like it would rip if a hang nail caught it?

Best Answer Responded on

Nope, just about the same thickness as the other down jacket manufactures.

I'm a bigger guy at 6'1" 245 or so. I wear a 50-52 suit jacket. I ordered a XXL thunder down model last year and it was too small in the chest and shoulders. Is the Massif or another model cut larger??

Responded on

I am 5'9" 190 and the Massif L was too small. I had to buy the XL to fit with a sweater. BTW, I am big in the shoulders and chest.

Responded on

I'm 6'1, 250lbs and 50" chest. XL fits me fine in the Massif but does not leave much space for layering, XXL gapes a bit around the waist, but it comfortable with other layers underneath. The Thunder is tighter fitting beacsue it's designed to be worn primarily as a mid-layer.
