Plenty of protection, but with room to move.

Your boy will outlast cool weather when he's outfitted in The North Face Long Distance Softshell Jacket. A generous dose of elastane in the wind-resistant Apex Aerobic softshell fabric makes it ideal for active play, from conquering the monkey bars at the playground to testing out new cross-country skis on the trails. The North Face bonded an extra layer of cozy Polartec 100 fleece to the shell to create a jacket that can go the distance in all but the coldest weather. A brushed collar lining and zip hand-warmer pockets round out this versatile jacket.

Super Jacket!

I just purchased a 2nd one of these for my youngest son because he is about to outgrow his current one. He has worn this jacket for about a year and despite being washed numerous times, it still looks new. It's warm, windproof and waterproof! I just wish this style was available in a women's size because I'd order one for myself! Highly recommend. Super material and construction! Worth the price!

This is a great Jacket! I have an eleven year old boy, brought it in black since he wouldn't dare wear a color (anyone with a pre teen would understand that) My son is extremely tough on all clothing (football, basketball etcetera) and so far it seems to be holding up great. It is light enough to wear over a sweater when it gets really cold and warm enough to wear here in Farmington New Mexico when we get our bitter snowy winds blowing through. This is the only jacket that my son will wear without complaint and although it isn't considered a heavy enough ski jacket for the elements as mentioned above with a fleece sweater underneath it does the trick just fine and waterproof to boot! I have never spent the extra money and brought North Face before but now I know why its worth the extra money. I would strongly suggest this coat to any parent out there looking for something to last. The size runs a little small to as a heads up. And for those thrifty buyers pair with some gloves and beanies from Target or Wally World and it'll last all season through!!

is the long distance warmer than the bionic...

is the long distance warmer than the bionic apex?

Responded on

It's a bit confusing but I had the same question. Based on what I read on Northface's site, it appears the Apex Bionic is more waterproof & windproof than the Long Distance. But I don't know if the fleece lining is the same in the Bionic. The Bionic talks about a fleece "backer" while the Long Distance speaks of a Polartec "lining."

Great Jacket

My boys loved the jackets. They wore them in the snow and light rain. It kept them warm and dry. No complaints. I however got one of the jackets stuck in the door and closed it. Now the thing has a hole(small) all the way through. Crazy mom.
